Chance is a 4 1/2-year-old Golden mix being fostered in Minot, ND. He's a very handsome boy that came into RAGOM after sitting at the pound for 2 months and was at the top of the list to be euthanized. RAGOM saw his plea for help and offered to take him in. Chance says, "Thank you, RAGOM!!!" His previous owner had turned him over to the pound because they thought he looked ugly, but what Chance had was demodectic mange that went untreated. He was treated for the mange at the pound and once he arrived at my home, we made a quick trip to the vet because he was still itching a lot and his skin looked very sore and tender. Chance had developed a yeast infection on his skin and in his ears. Treatment was started right away and now he's all healed up, minus some hair. Chance's hair will grow back and his coat will fill in nicely over time.

Chance is a happy and wonderful boy that is learning quickly what it's like to live in a home vs the pound setting. He gets along with all my dogs and cats and loves to play with my bigger dog. Chance loves to run in the yard and play fetch, so I'd really like to see Chance's forever home have a fenced-in yard. I don't think he would do well on a tie-out if you were to leave him unattended. He is very focused on his people and would easily figure out a way to break away from the tie-out and look for you. Chance will jump a 4-ft fence if you're on the other side of it and he wants to get to you, but once he learns you're coming back inside the fenced-in yard, he'll not jump the fence. Chance can be a stinker sometimes and find his way out of the house to follow you if you didn't leave the door securely latched.

Chance is partially blind or fully blind in his right eye. A cataract has developed on it from a previous injury. It doesn't impede his ability to do whatever he wants to do. The only time I notice him showing it's effecting his visibility is when he's looking at something that really interests him. He'll then turn his head to the left to see better.

What I can tell you about Chance -

• He loves people!!! You're the one that makes him the happiest; next would be your great throwing arm because he loves to play fetch. Chance is great at bringing the ball back to you so you can throw it again. A Chuckit! is a great investment in Chance's forever home. A fence is mentioned as something he would love and it's because he just loves to play fetch and has the ability to run and chase balls when in his own yard.
• Chance does like to play with other dogs and is very respectful of all dogs, big and small. I'd like to see a playmate/companion for Chance since he's used to living with other dogs (in my home and his previous owners' home). If you're a stay-at-home Mom/Dad without another dog in the home, that would be fine, too.
• A kennel is okay if you leave the door open and it's used as a place for him to go to if he wants to. If the kennel door is closed while Chance is in the kennel, he'll destroy it trying to get out. In the process, he will hurt himself. I tried the kennel when he first arrived in my home and he cut his mouth trying to get out, and he did get out. Chance does not need a kennel - free roam is fine as he is not destructive with anything in my home. He's a very good boy when it comes to being left home alone.
• Chance does have a love for cat food. If you have a cat in your home and feed them on the counter or table, he will find the food.
• Chance will paw at you in a very nice way when he wants your attention; he'll bark at the door to come inside and he has good recall when you call his name.
• Chance has learned how to sit when asked to do so.
• Chance can get a little jumpy when exited and while he's getting better with his jumping, he'll do best in a home with children ages 8 and up.
• Chance would love a bed of his very own. The first night in my home, he found a cat bed on my dresser and figured that was where he was supposed to sleep. All my dogs sleep in bed with me and by the second night, he figured that out and joined in with the other dogs on my bed.
• Chance will be starting obedience class next week and he's looking for a family that is dedicated to continuing obedience classes with him.
• Chance is a wonderful boy that wants a family to love him as much as he'll love you.

Chance perfect home would be with a Mom/Dad or family that wants a companion that likes to walk, explore, do social and fun activities together, has a fenced yard and will take him to Obedience class. He's not a high energy dog, but a dog that has experienced the good life now, loves it and wants to be a part of it!!!
