Merry Christmas from Smoozer!
Chance would like to send a huge thank-you to Smoozer for the winter icon.
As you can see by Chance's picture, his hair is growing back in beautifully. I think back to how bad his skin condition was when he came into RAGOM. With your donations, Chance was able to go through numerous treatments till his skin was healed.
Chance has settled into his foster home like a champ and is still getting treatment for his skin issues. He sees the vet again on Friday, so we will see what she says. It would be nice if he was healed enough to be neutered. Chance's middle name needs to be "Action Man" because all he wants to do is play with balls, toys, other dogs, and his people! He is doing great in obedience class and gets a lot of compliments on his heeling abilities. Chance has only met one dog he isn't sure about and that is the Irish Wolfhound at obedience class. He loves the little boy that comes to class with his dog and can hardly wait for him to start throwing toys for him. It would be wonderful if Chance could find a home with kids that love to play with their dog. At home, he still needs work with jumping up on people, but I continue to work with him on that. He is learning and will continue to learn that this isn't acceptable. When he wants attention, he asks for it and is a great snuggler when it is time to go to bed. If you think that Chance is your man, please contact your placement advisor.
Chance is doing well, but unfortunately, he was unable to be neutered as planned. The vet thought he needed another round of antibiotics (3 weeks) which he has started. His hair is growing back!!!! I'm seeing a little fuzz, so hopefully soon he'll have a nice coat of hair.
He loves everyone he meets and if you have a ball to throw for him, he'll love you even more. Chance is showing me that he may not need a fenced yard. A fenced yard would be great for ball throwing/playtime and no tie-out when just relaxing in the yard, but Chance does have good recall and comes when I call him. He's still a door opener and has joined me outside when he's been inside, but he comes right up next to me. Chance just likes to be where his people are and doesn't like to miss out on anything. He continues to have free roam while I'm at work or gone in the evening and he behaves like a perfect gentleman. Reminder - Chance cannot be kenneled.
Chance started obedience class and I was impressed at how well he learns and see there's a lot of potential in him. For a dog that has never had any training, he did super well. One thing Chance taught me was treats are not something he likes as a reward during obedience class. He would prefer a tennis ball. Chance's adoptive family will need to be committed to continuing his obedience training with a tennis ball as his reward. :-)
Here is a link to a video of Chance playing ball with a boy. After watching Chance play, I saw how much he'd enjoy a family with children in his forever home. Children that would love having a dog to play with.
