Chance CB 08-129

Profile

Chance is a 4-5 year old Golden Retriever mix. He weighs about 55 lbs., is neutered, housebroken and up to date on all vaccinations. Right now he is on antibiotics for kennel cough. His cough has gotten much better since we got him last weekend. Chance has a very thick cream colored coat with some black hairs mixed in.

Chance was surrendered to a Humane Society because his previous owner did not have enough time for him. He is a very easy going, laid back dog, is fine around cats and other dogs. A few nights ago, we did discover that he is a fence jumper. Our fence is only about 3-4 feet high, so a higher fence might be fine for him or he may need an invisible fence or tie out. He likes to play fetch with a tennis ball while out in the yard, but he does stop after a short time because he is out of shape and needs to lose a few pounds.

Chance is great in the house. He tells us when he wants to out by going to the back door. He loves chewing on the nylabones and rawhides and will do that while he lays by you wherever you are. He is a people dog and wants to be close when you move about the house. He isn't a "clingy" dog at all, he just likes to be near by.

We will send in more as we get to know Chance better.

This will probably one of the last updates for our loyal fellow, Chance. His new forever dad, Brad, will be coming to pick him up this week. It will be hard to say goodbye.  I thought I'd share a couple pics with all of you Ragom fans.  As you can see, Cammy and Chance like to chill in the kitchen when I'm making meals. Well, the other pic.....I'll let Chance explain this one: Hey Everybody in Ragom Land! (Waves paw and play bows) All of you are the most savy dog people on the internet, so I want to play a game. No, I'm not going play cyber fetch with you, but I wish I could receive some cyberpets! Anyway, I'd like for all you to study the other photograph and guess what I'm thinking! Sounds like fun, huh? Good Luck!A.  "Cammy, how does this bow look? Do you think the squirrels will respect me?"B.  "I cant' believe my foster mom brushed me again! I just KNOW I just know I won't have ANY hair left!" C.  "Uh, Oh, How was I supposed to know the hamburger was for supper and wasn't a special treat for me?" D.  "Cammy, do you mean to tell me that we're actually responsible for our own Poop Patrol?? EEEWWWWW"E.  " I swear on a box of Milkbones, I didn't countersurf that stick of butter on the kitchen table."Well......what's your FINAL answer?????? I must confess, the answer is...C and E! I know, I know, I really should land in the doghouse for this, but my foster mom loves me too much to stay mad very long. She was actually giggling while taking my "mug" shot. Can you imagine such a thing? No wonder I was embarassed! I just wanted to thank the great people who volunteer so much love and time for us puppers looking for a home! I'm so exicited to be in my forever home with the people who love me!

Chance continues to make himself at home. The first experience of counter surfing, drink from the toilet, and a little growl that told Cammy he still wanted his bone. AAAHHHHH, the joys of settling in and letting your hair down! I guess he officially considers us his family, if only temporary. :-)

Chance has been enjoying his rides, since we take him almost everywhere we go. The walks have going been great!
We have been stopping for a drink at a fountain about half way through our walk. Chance decided he didn't want to drink the way Cammy does since I just spray water over and she catches and plays in the water. He decided to step right into the overflow part of the fountain and stand with the water up to his belly! He's actually done this a couple of times now. Silly boy!

As far as his "experiences" mentioned above, he admitted to his counter surfing ways by bringing me his "prize" hamburger wrapper in his mouth, head bowed, and his eyes averted. LOL His confession was sweet! And I can't blame him for taking a drink from the toilet bowl when I discovered the water bowl was empty. What's a thirsty dog to do??
Chance and Cammy have divided their stock of bones in a mannerly way. They respect each other when one is chewing a bone. The only time Chance will give a growl is when Cammy is walking by a bone he had just left, but he still wants to chew it. Cammy backs off and all is well. We can take bones from him with no problem at all.

Now the easy part of this post will be clicking the send button. The hard part will be trying to stand up and not step on Chance since he's sleeping by my feet at this very moment. I bet he's dreaming of his forever home.

I thought I would post these cute pics. :-)  The great "Tug of War" (notice the "woobie" guts on the floor).

I guess you can see Chance doesn't want anything go to waste. HA HA It was the first opportunity he has had of tasting our dog's food. I think he likes it! The Diamond dog food in the picture was promptly brought into the laundry room. He would love to stick his head THAT bag! lol He's a cutie!

Chance is settling in our home very nicely. One of his favorite things to do is go for walk. He'll get so excited when he sees the leash! He will try and walk ahead with his Gentle Leader on, but he is responding to my instruction to walk beside me.

Chance and our resident dog have been engaging in a little play time. He will be a little rambunctious, but our golden lets him know not to get so fresh. I'm encouraged with play interaction, and I think our golden has been ready for some play time. Chance continues to convince me that I have two shadows...mine and his! He will prove to be a very loyal golden to someone.

Based on some conversations I've had regarding Chance, I feel it would be in the best interest in finding him a home with no cats. As far as dogs go, I don't think the companionship he has with a dog will never be as strong with his human family. Again, he and our dog have had short play times, so we'll see how their relationship develops.

Hello everyone! Chance has graced his presence for a day, and he has won our hearts! We hung out all day with him by going shopping (He slept in the car while I was gone), took a walk with our dog and a one of my girlfriends. He enjoyed all the scents and smells. He was very good with the Gentle Leader, he only dragged his head on the grass a couple of times. Next, we went to over my parents house to say “Hello”. He was very well behaved and loved the affection of my mom.

After supper I took him outside and gave him a good brushing. If there ever was a time I am completely in love with the shedding tool, the Furminator, this was it! I brushed a lot of undercoat out while he was busy watching some bunnies nearby.

No problems in the sleep department. He slept in my daughter’s room. He nudged her hand and cried a little around 6:45, wanting to do his business in the right place. While we went to church he had full roam of the main floor and nothing was touched. He made sure he gave a wonderful “Welcome Back” upon returning complete with toy in the mouth, body wags, and crying for joy! He deserves a family who can love him with the love he gives his foster family.
He likes to know what room we’ll be in, by following us around. When we do sit down, he’s always about a foot away.
We’ll be working on some commands like “Down” and “Shake”. It’s always fun to challenge the mind!

We’ll keep you updated on this loyal boy.

Hi everyone,

Chance has settled into our routine quite well.  This is one smart fella.  Our daily routine consists of our getting up around 6:30 in the morning for breakfast.  Chance still looks at me every morning wondering where his “wet” food topper is, but he seems to have resigned himself to the fact that he can eat his kibble dry too.

After breakfast, Chance , our resident golden and I head out to do horsey chores.  Chance gets tied away from the action of course to avoid any danger.  The first day he barked a bit (chores really only take me a few minutes), but the last couple of days he has just sat patiently and waited for me.  Then we go off on our walk around the property.  Chance loves this part.  Since he walks so gently, I take him walking on the tie out.  This gives him a opportunity to go a little farther away and “do his business in the taller grass” , which seems to be his preference.  Then in we go to wake the kids for school.

On Chance’s lucky days he goes along to work with me and hangs out under my desk, which he loves.  But on the days he has to stay home, he gives me the pouty face and then heads into his kennel when asked.

Over Easter my parents brought their 3 month old Chow pup along on their weekend visit.  Chance did very well.  Once in awhile he gave a little growl to let the pup know that the “needle sharp” teeth weren’t appreciated, but they all shared toys and bones with great manners.

Chance has also welcomed or at least tolerated all of our 3 year old daughters hugs and kisses and her sing songy little voice.  He has let her take bones and toys from his mouth and been very gentle with her.

Chance is an extremely mellow fellow and would love to find his forever home soon.

Chance has been doing great at our house. He is one laid back guy. We went for a walk in the park the other night and he sure loved that. He was enjoying all the smells and walking in the snow.

Chance has been getting along well with our other two dogs and also the cats. When we have had people over, he greets them with a wagging tail and a toy in his mouth. He doesn't care if you need to wipe his feet off when they are wet before he comes into the house. He just stands patiently until you are done. Chance is such a all around good boy.

Chance has moved to another foster only because he started jumping our fence and it does not work very well for us to have a dog tied out. He came to work with me for most of the day while he waited for his ride to his new foster. Everyone at work thought he was great. He laid at my feet while I worked at my desk and when I got up to do other things he would just follow me and wait for me to go back to my desk. He took treats very nicely from my coworkers and got lots of pets throughout the day. Here is one more photo of Chance enjoying the "golden" life.

If anyone wants a very nice, gentle, happy-go-lucky dog that has a big Golden heart, please let Placementatragom [dot] org  know you would like to meet Chance.
