Hello All! We welcomed Charlie (Charlie Bear to all of us in our household) into our foster home this morning. He was a stray that had been at our local humane society for one month and no one came to claim him :( He will now spend the rest of his life as a RAGOM dog ----lucky Charlie!! Charlie Bear is a beautiful reddish golden weighing approximately 62 pounds. He is very skinny so I bet the vet will tell us that we have to fatten him up a bit.
At this time, Charlie is not neutered. I will be calling for a vet appointment on Monday so I imagine that Charlie will go in for surgery sometime this week. Charlie will also need to see the vet as he has some kind of skin allergies and has lost some fur because of it. The nice lady from the humane society thought it was due to a flea allergy as his fur has begun to grow back in the month that they stayed with him at the humane society after treating him for a terrible case of fleas.
The nice lady at the humane society has told us that Charlie Bear is an escape artist as he scaled the 8 ft. high chain length kennels at the humane society THREE times!!! He didn't go far when he got out each time and he jumped right into the vehicle as soon as they called for him. He will definitely need to go to a home with a fenced in yard with a physical wooden fence. He has not tried to escape from our yard as of yet. We have a 5 ft. wooden fence.
Charlie Bear met our 4 resident goldens with no problems. He also gets along very well with our 2 year old daughter. He is very good with her and lets her pat him on the head and give him kisses. He also has taken treats from her with one of the gentlest mouths!! He has been very good with my husband and I as well. Charlie Bear LOVES to be brushed and scratched behind his ears. I sat with him tonite and brushed him and cut some mats out of his beautiful fur. So far, the only "bad" behavior we have seen from Charlie Bear is that he jumps on me every once in a while. We are working on him not jumping up on us but I don't expect that to take too long as he is a fast learner! We did not know if he was housetrained, but so far, he has not had any accidents in the house.
Look for pictures of Charlie within the next few days of our daughter putting Charlie to "nite-nite" with her blankets and pillows as she does with all of our 4 resident dogs!! Charlie will also be dressing up for Halloween!! Look for him in a costume in the next few days!!!
