It is with a broken heart that I write that my sweet, precious Charlie David crossed the bridge yesterday. He was diagnosed with Carcinoma bile duct liver cancer on Monday and only given 2 days to live. As a family we decided that we had to let him go as he was suffering so – he was so ill that he could not come home. Charlie was admitted to the U of M on Sunday morning and that is how fast this horrible disease took his life. It was just Thursday that we were at the new dog park in Victoria running through the grass and playing with other dogs. He had a blast and now I am so happy that he enjoyed this. It was not until Friday morning that I noticed that he just did not seem right. So from Friday until Tuesday, this disease took his life.
Charlie was the sweetest, warm hearted, soft and loving dog in the world. “Everybody Loved Charlie!” He welcomed foster dogs into our home and showed the puppy mill kids “the way”. He was not so crazy about the puppies that we fostered, but he still let them walk all over him and chew on his ears! He knew that we were helping and he did not complain! Charlie will continue giving as we have given permission to the U of M to use the body he left for research. He may be able to save another dogs life with the research that they are doing. We knew he would have wanted that. He was part of our family for only 11 short months, but it felt like he was with us for a lifetime. I will never forget his bark, his wagging tail -constantly - even up to the end, and his sweet gentle disposition. He loved just hanging out in the yard, laying in the grass and “just chillin”.
Charlie, your foster mom and dad love and miss you and your adopted mom and dad, brothers and furr sister Penny miss you so deeply it hurts so much. Your paw print in clay is on the mantel, right next to your “King Collar” and when the U of M have learned about your disease, you will be on the mantel too. I have your pink pig that you laid your head on when you passed away that I hold as tight as I can at night and your tags from your leash are on my key ring, so you go everywhere with me! I felt your spirit in the house last night and especially when we were baking your ceramic paw print in the oven, you made the smoke detectors go off!
About a month ago I felt compelled to take some pictures of Charlie. He looks like an angel. I wanted to share them.
Thank you RAGOM from all of us and Charlie for giving him to our family. Even though it was short, he was so very loved and will always be our “Choo-Bean”.
I will see you again some day and until then you keep everyone in line, always get the “last bark” in and eat plenty of marrow bones! Love you sweet boy, rest in peace.
