Chelsea 06-558

Profile

1/2/07: Chelsea's arrival was delayed for 24 hours by rain, ice and snow so we're just getting acquainted. She's spayed, polite, and hasn't shown any bad habits. A friend stopped by today and said her name should be 'Bandit' because of her distinct facial markings. Tomorrow we visit the vet, so check back then for an update.

We adopted Chelsea in January of 2007 from RAGOM. She has been a wonderful dog for us. Tonight she passed away suddenly-we think a stroke. She was 12 1/2 years. She seemed fine today. She has been healthy. She loved going on walks! Chelsea is on the right in this picture.

This was a very exciting day for Chelsea. The N family drove all the way to Menahga to meet her and it turned out to be a match made in heaven. When it was time to leave, Chelsea jumped into the back seat and didn't look back once as she and big sister Maggie (another RAGOM dog) worked out who would get the best seat on their ride home together. Have fun, sweet Chelsea!

Sweet little Chelsea is quickly settling in and enjoying the good life. She was on my heels for the first few days, but now she'll go off and lie on her favorite quilt (thanks, Andree) to chew on a toy or take a nap. Oh, don't get me wrong, she's still a little apprehensive... like when we come inside after a break, she hesitates outside the door with ears back and a hopeful look on her face as if to say, "Are you waiting for me? Can I really come inside?" When she hears, "Come, Chelsea," she races through the door with a big smile on her face and her tail in the air like she knows she is certainly the luckiest girl on the planet.

Oops, guess I forgot to tell you that Chelsea had been kenneled outside in her former life, so now she's just bubbling over with happiness because she's inside where she can keep an eye on her people and get caught up on all the head and belly scratches that she probably missed before.

We went to the vet yesterday and all's well except she has to go back to take care of a minor gum infection. Well, she needs to lose 5 pounds... I thought she looked perfect at 60 pounds. Good thing (I guess) that everyone else in this house is on a diet, too. And some need to lose more than 5 pounds :)

Again, no bad habits. Gets along with the two resident dogs, she's not what I'd call food-motivated so no counter-surfing (plus she's too short). She did a small woof once because the other two were barking furiously at ice fishermen waaay out on the lake, loves to ride in the car (her fondest wish is to be the co-pilot), sleeps all night beside my bed. Right now, I'm taking her everywhere with me to get her socialized, but will leave her alone in the house one of these first days to see how she does with free rein.

Check back again soon because I'm sure there's something I forgot...
