Dear RAGOM,

I'm new to your family, so I wanted to introduce myself and let everybody know a little bit of info about me.

My previous owners moved out of their house in the late fall, and left two puppies and myself to fend for ourselves out in the cold.  We ran out in the country in Iowa for about 2 months, before ending up on a farm.  The farmer was not happy with us making ourselves at home, because we were eating all of his cats food.  I guess when you have your ribs and spine showing, some people are still very unkind!!!  Well, the farmer was about to shoot us, when our Angel by the name of Jayne stepped in.  She took us in, and nursed us back to health and took very good care of us.  Unfortunately, one of the puppies disappeared before Jayne could get to us, but one of the other one got real lucky and found a great home.  Jayne had a harder time finding me a good home, so I have been hanging out with her for the last 3 months.  She already had 7 dogs herself with a lot of medical issues so she wanted to make sure I got all the love and attention that I deserved, so that he how I ended up with you guy's.

Since I have been here in the cities, I have been very busy with appt's.  Yesterday, I spent the day at the vet's office getting my teeth cleaned and having some x-rays taken on both my knees and hips.   They did not come back as I had hoped they would, but FM said not to worry because RAGOM will take care of me.  The x-ray's on my hips show I have mild to moderate hip dysplasia.  I have already stated to take some supplements, so my hips should start to feel much better.  Now, for my knee's, they are going to need a little work. My left knee has a full tear in the cranial cruciate ligament (ACL).  And my right knee has some laxity in it indicating either a partial tear or a chronic tear of my (ACL).  Jayne heard through the grape vine that I was hit by a car when I was younger, so that it probably why my knees are so banged up!!

My FM mom knew something was definitely wrong with me, but had no idea how bad because of my laid back, easy going personality.  She said I 'am the sweetest girl, and by far one of her easiest fosters.  I only bark if somebody comes up to the house, I do not counter surf, I love both adults and kids, 100% house broken and already know basic commands.   As you can see, I have a little of both Golden and Lab in me.  FM said that I have the best of both worlds because both breeds are faithful loving companions :-).  As you can see, I 'm big and beautiful weighing in at 90lbs.  But, like everybody else, I need to work on losing a couple to help my joints out.

Oh, before I go, I wanted to thank Rich for all the pampering I received at the Spa today.  My coat feels sooo much better, and I must say, I just "shine" now.  I walked out of there feeling and looking good!!!  He was nice enough to donate some sessions to RAGOM so we can all go get pampered like we all love to have done to ourselves.

Well, I'm off to get some beauty sleep with my new foster fur siblings Billy, Sydney and Lucky.  They have been very patient with me the last couple of days, due to me being a little growly with them, but now I have decided that I like them.  They just do not understand how all of my joint's feel and what I have been through the last several months.

Have a great day everybody!!!

Updates

Saturday, July 26, 2008

Good evening everybody,

FM gave me the thumbs up to do my own update tonight, because I am so excited and can not wait for her to sit down and spread the good news. I just found out that somebody out there by the name of Carolyn Baily thinks I am pretty darn special because she has decided to sponsor me!!!!

You see this is all perfect timing because just yesterday FM and I had to make a trip to the vet due to my other knee that still needs surgery is really starting to hurt.   We went in, and that big scary machine take some pics of my knees and what we found out is that I now have a complete tear in my other knee.  We found out that this is normal for my knee to go from a partial to a full tear due to my knee having to do extra work while my other knee was healing. Good thing is that the vet said my knee that I recently had surgery on is completely healed, so we can go ahead and get the other one fixed.  I am feeling much better though because they gave me some really good medicine to help with the swelling and pain until I have to have surgery again.  Yikes!!!

So THANK YOU once again Carolyn for your kind sponsorship of me, FM and I will have a very special prayer for you tonight.  Who knew how wonderful my life would turn around.  It was only in the fall that my family left me to fend for myself in the country all banged up with bad knees and hips.  Then a wonderful lady by the name of Jayne took me in to fatten me up and send my on my way to RAGOM for some more TLC. Then somebody else who I have never met, wants to also help me out.  But can you blame her, look at me!  I'm adorable!!!  Boy, just when I thought I lost faith in humans, all you wonderful people have gave me a bright and sunny new outlook on you two legged creatures=].

It is now been 6 weeks since Chels has had her surgery.  We started her water therapy at the local lake and also began taking longer walks this week.  So far she is doing great!!  If it were up to her, she would love to walk even further, but we have to follow the Dr. orders.  She is a very strong gal, and has shown me that nothing holds her back.  She will go in for a x-ray of her knee that just had surgery on it in the beginning of Aug, and if all goes well, she will get her the other knee done shortly after that.

Chels just continues to be the perfect houseguest, except for the corn cob I found her chewing on the other day.  Still not sure if she helped herself from the counter or to the trash can.  I knew sooner or later Billy would start to rub off on her!!!  Showing her all the tricks to the trade to sneak in all those little snacks when no one is looking.

Well, we are going to head out for a walk before it gets to hot.  Chels would like to thank everybody for following and supporting her through her 1st surgery, and hopes everything goes just as well for the 2nd.  She would also like to another wet nose kiss to Dr. R for her donated time to fix her knee's and of course RAGOM for picking up the tab as well.  I saw the bill, and it still amazes me what this organization will do, at any cost to help a pup out in need.  It makes one very proud to  be a part of this family.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody!!!

As you can see Chelsea is now home recovering from her surgery.  She had a plate, and a couple of screws added to her knee, to replace the tendon that was completely torn.  She will have 6-8 weeks of recovery, then go back in to have her other knee worked on as well.

She came home and laid right down in the sun on the grass.  She was so happy to be home, and be around her foster family and foster fur siblings again.   And of course have a ball at her side.  I cannot say express enough on what a sweet girl she is.  The crew at the vet clinic just loved her, and kept reminding me what the perfect patient she was.  Over Memorial Day weekend we did some much needed yard work.  The whole time, she never left my side.  She would just followed me around with her ball in her mouth, and waited very patiently for me to throw it for her.  She is just the most faithful loving companion.  She is so happy to have a family around her to remind her what life is really all about.... long belly rubs, tennis balls, yummy treats, walks around the neighborhood and somebody to tell her how beautiful she isSmiley emoticon.  She is just a gem!!!
