Chester (Boomer 08-135)

Profile

Boomer is a wonderful 8 month old puppy reported to be Golden Retriever and Yellow Lab mix. Right now he looks much more Yellow Lab but I can see some darker gold fur coming in on his back and ears. He was at the vet yesterday and was microchipped and updated on his shots. She said he seems to be in good health but he still needs to be neutered.

Boomer just loves to play all the time. He loves playing with other dogs but also loves all kinds of toys and games. He does pull on his leash so we are using a Gentle Leader that he seems to be adjusting to. Loves riding in the car but sometimes gets so excited he just whines. He has a darling face with a black nose and dark eyes that are almost black. He weighs almost 42 pounds so he may stay on the small side.

Poor Boomer has had a tough start in his young life. A Good Samaritan observed her neighbors removing his collar and tags and encouraging him to run away. She said she would take him and find him a good home, so that is where RAGOM comes in. He does not like his crate so he sleeps with us and does fine though the night. He has not had any accidents in the house and has not chewed anything except his toys. If you are looking for a happy playful puppy, Boomer is the one for you.

Boomer continues to be Boomer. He is very food motivated. If you want Boomer to do anything just show him food. At night he sneaks up on our bed. Our dogs have dog beds, and not usually allowed on the beds, but at about 4 in the morning I wake up and there's Boomer, curled up at my feet. I don't have the heart to move him.

The best thing about Boomer is grooming. He sits and watches me brush out our Golden, and I am sure he is wondering what all that is about. He is meeting a family next weekend. Good Luck Boomer!

"What?"  I'm meeting a family next weekend!?"

Boomer was neutered today and all went well. As we get to know this guy, we enjoy him more and more. He is a clown. He listens very well. He comes when he is called. He is by no means perfect, and he still pulls on his Gentle Leader. He still barks when we leave in the morning, when he is in his crate. But he will go and lay in it on his own, when we are busy in another room and he thinks he is alone. He gets along great with my new foster Millie 07-300. Anyone who gets this dog will get a forever friend. He just is that type of guy. He looks at you with those black eyes and tilts his head to the side and you can't help but smile.

Boomer is doing great. He has not had any accidents in the house since the first couple days he came here. Last night we let him have free roam of the house and he did super. He slept next to our bed on the rug all night. We do have two dog beds in our room but he chose the rug.

He is super smart, and learns quickly. I have been working on sit, stay and he does really well. We walk 2 miles every morning and he still pulls on the Gentle Leader, but not as much as he did a week ago. I think he would be good at agility training if someone wanted to work with him on it.

He does have some separation anxiety, but that is improving as time goes by. Being this is his 4th residence in the last 2 months, it is no wonder.

We live in the country, and do not have a fenced yard, so when he needs to go out and I cannot be with him he is on a tie out that comes to our door. He does really well on it. Boomer willl make the right family a great pet.
