Profile

Chevy came into RAGOM due to a divorce. He is looking for a home with children aged 10+, as he is an energetic, rambunctious guy with no training and would likely knock over small children. Chevy gets along well with the resident dogs. He has done fine with the resident cat, who has had to teach him a few lessons (cats rule....). A physical fence is optional, although recommended, as his recall is not reliable at this point.

Well, Chevy barely recovered from his neutering when he chose his adopter! This leggy, wild pony found a home where he has a cat to manage him, and RAGOM pals to keep him amused.

He gets to sleep in a bed, spends his days inside (better than the outdoor kennel he had previously) and--to his great delight--an endless pile of toys to keep him amused! He looks forward to beginning his obedience classes and to living a great life indoors with lots and lots of loving!

Thanks to RAGOM for showing him the way to a good life!

Chevy has been here over three weeks now and he’s doing great. He’s settled down a bit—still has the energy of a 2 1/2 year old puppy—but he knows this is his temporary home and he’s become comfortable here. He had a 4-5 day vacation elsewhere when foster mom went out of town and he did well there also.

He had a no-nonsense girl dog there who let him know when he was getting out of line, like when he tried to hump her or when he had to stop and sniff every little thing on a walk. It was good for him. He got to play a lot of ball and came back here exhausted.

Chevy is such a smart guy and learns quickly. He’s still a bit of a nut job on the leash, but some consistent training is going to take care of that! This guy is going to shine in an obedience class! He’s also really a happy dog. He’s loving getting lots of attention and he’s become a bed snuggler.

Chevy LOVES his toys—balls, stuffies, squeaky toys, all of them. He’s housebroken and hasn’t had a single accident in the house. He eats his meals nicely and does well going into his kennel when he has to be crated. He really loves his people and likes nothing better than to sit next to you and soak up some pets!

The growliness that Chevy exhibited early on is kind of disappearing. Occasionally, he will give a growl but it’s usually when he’s scared of something or doesn’t seem to know what’s going on.

He’s still a bit rambunctious and doesn’t always realize how big he is, so things get knocked over, and when there’s a sudden reaction (like tonight when he knocked the floor fan onto my foot and I yelled “Ouch!”), he gets startled. But it’s getting much better as his trust grows.

He goes in for his neuter on Thursday, so he should be available once he heals from that! He’ll be looking for a home without small children (because of his rambunctiousness and size), another dog would be great (he loves to play) but not necessary, a fence would be good (not sure how good his recall is), and cats are fine.

He needs exercise—his nose works overtime on every walk—as he needs to burn off his energy, and he needs someone who is willing to commit to training him. He’s such a good boy! He’s just stunning, and so sweet, and some consistent training and lots of loving will help him blossom into the best dog ever!

Chevy is a handsome, lively, smart two and a half year old. He has a lot of energy and is a really sweet boy who wants to please. He spent his life in a 6' x 10' outdoor kennel, sleeping in the garage on the coldest nights. His owners were divorcing and neither wanted to keep him.

Apparently he's never had a collar or a leash on until he came into RAGOM. The first few walks were a challenge, as he was like a bucking bronco, but he's learning to walk on a leash. Like most Golden Retrievers, he LOVES tennis balls, and any other toys!

Chevy has been doing great with the two other dogs in the house, as well as the cat. He knows his name, he knows "sit", and he's quick to learn.

Everything has been new to him-- coming from living in a kennel outside, to being an inside dog with a cat and two other dogs, and new rules--he's been on a steep learning curve! He has a very sweet disposition, wants so much to be a good dog, and can't get enough attention.

Chevy is a bit of a handful, with all of his energy and lack of training, but he's a quick learner and really wants to be a good dog. He seems to be really happy, LOVES going on walks, and is not very food motivated.

Because he's a bit rambunctious, he should go to a home with kids at least 10 years old, because he could very easily knock small children over! He has one little quirk right now that seems be getting better: if he doesn't want to go somewhere and if you take his collar or pull the leash, he can be a little growly.

He's never snapped and the growl is clearly a warning. He's getting better with this, and hopefully he'll soon learn that he doesn't need to do this anymore.

Chevy is not available right now, as he is waiting to be neutered. Once that's taken care of, he'll be looking for his home!
