Chewy 04-310

Profile

Chewy is a purebred golden that was surrendered because her former family had to move. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, and will be 5 years old in December. Chewy lived with small children and is very gentle. She is great with other dogs and is afraid of cats. She is well mannered in the house and used to being loose when alone in the house. Chewy knows basic commands and walks well with a gentle leader.

Chewy gets along great with my two dogs and is very playful. Her favorite activities are retrieving balls, playing tug, chasing the other dogs, and swimming. She only barks when she plays. Chewy likes to help me in the garden by digging holes. She likes to bury her toys next to the area I'm working in. She is used to being in a fenced yard and would not do well with an invisible fence. Chewy can be startled easily and is afraid of storms, fireworks, loud noises, cats, overly dominant dogs, and going to the groomers.

Chewy has food and seasonal allergies, as well as chronic ear infections. She needs to be on a lamb and rice diet. Her eyes, ears, and around her mouth are a little pink. Her paws are very red and she chews on them quite often. Chewy has sensitive paws and can react to cleaning solutions. Floors should only be mopped with a vinegar and water solution. We will know more about Chewy's allergies after she has her vet appointment.

Hi,

The best dog in the world died today. Chewy came to live with us 7 years ago. She brought joy and unconditional love into our house! I really think we were better people because of her. She taught us many things. I daily have thanked the people who gave her up for adoption. She loved our crabby Gramma dog Rosie and improved her quality of life. We mourned her passing together. Our next Ragom dog Lizzie was to be a best girlfriend for her and they were. Sometimes I would say to Lizzie that she's lucky Chewy loves you so much or she would be in big trouble.

Thank you Ragom for making my family complete. She has been one of our blessings!

Chewy continues to do well in her foster home. She is having a great time playing with the other dogs. As you can see from her photos, it's hard to get a picture of her alone. She is always snuggling or playing with the resident dogs.

Chewy just had her vet exam. She is being treated for ear infections (yeast) for the next two weeks. We are trying prednisone for her allergies. She starts on a higher dosage for the first few days, which is gradually decreased if she is doing better. The vet thought that Chewy could need antihistamines, medicated foot baths, or a special diet depending on how she does over the winter. None of this is difficult or very expensive. It may just take a while to find the best way to manage Chewy's allergies. Her vet would also like to see her lose a few pounds. Chewy has been getting lots of exercise, so we have decided not to restrict her diet at this time. We should know how Chewy is responding to the prednisone by the end of the week, as her dosage is reduced.
