Merry Christmas Chloe! Love Macy P.
Hi! My name is Chloe. I am a very sweet, very loving golden. I am going to the vet this week for a check-up and to be spayed. I just turned one year old – my birthday is in November.I have LOTS of energy and my favorite thing to do is play and play… and, did I mention play. I also absolutely love to take long walks around the neighborhood and smell the smells. I do a pretty good job walking on a leash but do tug and get a little crazy excited when I see another dog, person or squirrel but I’m a good walking buddy.
Before coming to my foster home, I spent most of my days in an outdoor kennel and my evenings in a crate in a garage so the world is a new and exciting place. I still sleep in my crate at night and spend about four – six hours each day in my crate while my foster parents are at work. I am not very cooperative about going into my crate buthaving a treat waiting inside for me has helped a lot. I used to spend too much time in a crate and need to learn to trust that it is not a bad place. Once I am in my crate, I will cry for a little bit but will settle down. Another one of my favorite things to do is Snuggle – with a capital “S”. I am a huge snuggler and will plop right down on your lap and soak up the love and attention. If I get too excited, a short belly rub will usually help to calm me down.
I admit I am a messy eater and sloppy drinker! I tend to dribble water out of my mouth after I get a drink and I like to grab a mouthful of food out of my dish, drop it on the floor and eat it from there. I do eat most of it though! Because I used to live in an outdoor kennel, it’s been a challenge for me to figure out where I want to go to the bathroom. My foster family has to take me on short walks around the neighborhood to get me to go to potty. But the good news is that I am going potty closer to home now than I was when I first arrived at my foster home, so I am figuring it out. I have only had one accident in the house but that was after I drank LOTS of water…it was a beautiful Thanksgiving Day and I ran and ran chasing a ball and drank lots of water and well, you get the picture. Normally, if I have to go potty, I start getting “nervous” and I may cry. But mostly I seem “nervous”. I have not figured out to go to the door yet. I also jump up on people that I want to greet. Not a run and jump sort of jump. It’s a hello, give me some love sort of jump. But, I am jumping much less frequently now than when I first arrived at my foster house. This is probably left over from being kept in an outdoor kennel and jumping up to get someone to come over and notice me and pet me.I may knock over younger kids because I just want love, love and more love. I also let my foster family clean my feet after walks now – something I really fought the first few days here.
There are no other dogs in my foster home but I seem to have done alright with the other dogs I have met over the last couple days. I have my first official doggie play date tonight so I’ll let you know how it goes!
I do bark occasionally but if I am told “no bark” once or twice, I will stop. I do not like the vacuum cleaner one bit, the washing machine is a little unnerving as is the fan my foster mom just turned on to dry an area of the carpet in the living room. Yes, I decided I needed to open bottle of cleaner on the carpet…well it was her faultfor leaving the brand new, unopened bottle by the steps to be put away (good thing it was an organic cleaner!).
Yes, I am a toddler and am always on the look-out for things you don’t want me to have! Stuffed animals, socks, a random pencil or small toys…all fair game in my eyes.
I know “come”, but do not consistently choose to listen. I sometimes respond to “sit” but still need practice. I am also working on learning “go potty”. I am really smart though and have already learned so much in the short time I’ve been with my foster family. I definitely do not like car rides. I have been on less than five car rides in my life and get very nervous being in the car. But, I’m still young and may come to enjoy a nice ride in the car. I like tobe brushed and love baths. I even had a chance to take a short dip in the lake up to my knees and oh how I wished it would have been a warm summer day. The water looked like so much fun! I like a good rawhideto chew on and have happily dismembered a few of my toys…ah, I love the sound of ripping seams.
I am a very sweet, loving little girl. I’ll update again soon!
