Chucky has been in foster care for 1 week already!! Is it possible to fall in love with a dog that quickly?!? I can't even tell you how much this guy has stolen my heart. But enough about me, you are probably wanting to learn more about him!
Well first of all, we went to the vet today and they guesstimated his age to be 1-year-old! That is quite a difference from 4, but what a well rounded and well-behave 1-year-old. The vet also deemed him to be completely healthy if not a little underweight at 52 pounds! Thank goodness :-) We have enough foster dogs needing medical care right now.
Chucky is housetrained! Who would have thunk it. He has had 2 accidents but they were both very deliberate in my mind - showing the cat who's boss by marking the kitty litter pan :-) Little snot. He was baby gated in the kitchen for the first couple days and since he had no accidents he was allowed free roam of the main floor and no accidents! How awesome is that :-)
Speaking of cats, he LOVES them! But he loves them a little too much and is overly compulsive about wanting to play with them. He would do much better in a home without cats. The only time he's barked so far has been when trying to get the cat to run.
He does great with other dogs and has settled in nicely with the 2 resident dogs. He is an absolute attention hog so I know he would love being an only dog so he would be the center of everyone's attention. Of course, he would be just fine having another fur-butt sibling too.
He is great with kids! He wants nothing more than to be loved by them. He has not been baby tested, only toddler and up so far.
He is the best cuddle dog I've met so far! He has found the perfect spot in bed with me and if the other dogs are looking for attention, he burrows himself under my neck and will wait for attention (kind of). He loves sleeping next to me on the sofa (where he is right now) and will do just about anything for lovin'.
I don't think he will need a fence, although wouldn't every dog want one! He has great recall and wants nothing more than to be by your side at all times. He goes out now to do his business and runs back in for cuddles.
He is a true retriever in the fact that he always has something in his mouth! If you are looking to adopt him, you will need to have lots of toys (bones, balls, ropes) for him to carry around. If there are things on the floor that shouldn't be in a dogs mouth, he will put them in his mouth. He is not destructive (except for paper) and has not put anything inappropriate in his mouth yet but I'm sure that would change if the opportunity presented itself.
Chucky would love to find his furever home! If you think you'd be a good fit, please contact your placement advisor.
