A long awaited update on Miss Cassidy....
All of her pups were adopted out to wonderful forever homes, after relocating her to our kitchen, she is still slowly but surely acclimating to being in a household. She needs her kennel for her safe place, and when there is activity, she prefers to stay in her kennel and observe, if things are quiet or she is coaxed enough, she will come out for petting and treats, or to play (a little bit) with our resident dogs.
Cassidy went in to have her spay done 4 weeks after her puppies had gone, and it was discovered she had a heart murmur, so an X-ray was taken before the spay could be done, and the vet determined her heart may have been enlarged, so an echocardiogram was indicated. Her spay was postponed and we had the echo done the following week. Cassidy does have a level 2 heart murmur, and her valves are a bit 'leaky', but the cardio specialist at VCA determined her more than healthy enough to go ahead with her spay, and as of now, she will need no medication and should lead a full normal life. She will however, need follow up echos done at least once a year to monitor her condition.. She had her spay done 5 days ago, and she is recovering wonderfully. We have been dealing with a chronic yeast infection in one of
her ears, but have added a second medication and hopefully it will clear up now. She will go back to the vet next week to have a post op and ear check. She also had her teeth cleaned and now has a beautiful white smile. Her coat is really improving, and she has become very interested in toys, especially the collecting of them and hoarding them in her kennel :) If she sees a toy out on the floor she has to go get it and take it to her pile in the kennel.. some days she has no room to even get in the kennel herself with all the toys...She never chews up or wrecks any toys but just likes to have
them for comfort...
She got a new stuffed bird as her welcome home/get well after surgery present and she hardly ever puts him down. Cassidy still makes strides everyday in her adjustment to the good life, but she requires lots of love and patience..
She is the most gentle, sweet soul and gets along with every human, dog and cat she meets... Her forever family should have a fenced yard, as she is still very timid with leash walking and could never be left on a tie out..and she would likely do best with another dog or two, as she takes most of her cues on how to be a dog living with people from our own dogs. She has so much love, affection and gratitude to offer.
