Clover has been a wonderful house guest while his foster parents are out to town. He is gentle, quiet, comes when called, and shares toys with my 2 resident dogs. My lab can be quite feisty and a real bully when playing fetch, but Clover gives her space and understands not to mess with a sassy girl like her! What a smart boy! He reads other dog's body language very well!
Speaking of bodies, as you can see, Clover is still missing a lot of fur on his rump and back. When he and Big Bear were found in the woods last summer, they were both infested with fleas and had skin and ear infections. Clover's skin does not look infected now but is very, very itchy. I gave him a couple Benadryl tablets this afternoon because he could not stop scratching. He was very calm though when I clipped his nails. He currently has an ear infection, but laid quietly while I cleaned his ears with the dreaded "Ear Wash" and then applied antibiotic ointment.
In summary, Clover is a very sweet velcro Golden Retriever who has a lot of energy and spunk. He will make some lucky person a devoted companion for the rest of his life. Senior dogs save their best love for last! Please contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet Clover.

Greetings from Golden Valley!
I am visiting Robbie and Katie while my foster parents are out of town. This visit was just what I needed because my best friend Big Bear left to go across the Rainbow Bridge the other night and I really miss him.
After I arrived at Miss Christi's house, she tried to get a picture of me. Here I am getting as close as possible to her. After she took this picture, I kissed her on the nose and said, thanks! She didn't mind at all. She loves rescued seniors like me!
After a wild evening of playing in the snow and fetching toys, we all crashed on the bed!
Today is Saturday, and Miss Christi took us outside to play. I climbed up and down the hill, fetched toys, sniffed for bunnies, and chewed on snow. It was cold and windy out and I barked at a tree branch that was bending in the wind. After that I collected several toys. Here I am with my prizes! I think I look very handsome for a senior dog and Miss Christi said I have a "heart of gold"!
Most Golden Retrievers love balls, especially green squeaky balls, and I am no exception!
Here's a special hello and thank you to my wonderful sponsors: Maggie, Molly, and Murphy 10-311. It is because of nice friends like you that I was able to get the medical care I needed! Thank you and hope you are having a Golden New Year!!
Best wishes from your friend Clover!

My daughter has decided that Clover should really be called Pooh Bear and that Big Bear should be named Tigger. Pooh Bear fits Clover’s personality just right. He is so very sweet and cuddly. I can tell he is really feeling better. He used to sleep a lot - now he is quite active. He used to keep his head down-now his head is always up. He used to let Big Bear dominate him - now he and Big Bear seem equal. His skin looks much healthier and he is smelling much better also. He is off all medicines. He is slowly gaining more hair.
Clover is scheduled next week, August 6th, to be neutered, have his mass on back leg removed, and have some teeth extracted. Please keep him in your thoughts and let us hope that the mass on his leg is not cancerous.

We have had Clover and Big Bear 12-217 at our house now for 2 weeks. It seems that every day they both seem to be feeling better and they are both growing some of their hair back. They were both seen again on 7-1-2012 by Dr Cowan and she was quite impressed at how much better they looked. They still need to put on more weight and they still have their ear and skin infections, but over all are really improving.
I am thinking that a better name for Clover would be Gentle Ben as he is extremely gentle and looks more like a bear than Big Bear. Clover is the more submissive of the two but his tail is constantly wagging. When he sees any of us he lays down immediately on his side and lifts one of his back legs hoping to get a tummy scratch. He is quite a snuggler. His favorite thing to do is roll on his back in the grass. I think his least favorite thing is a bath. Big Bear just walks right in the tub whereas Clover takes a lot of convincing. Both of them require a bath every 3-4 days. It is obvious that these two are tightly bonded to each other and I feel that they should be adopted out together.
