Cody 08-276 arrived down here in Iowa on Sunday - thanks Transport Team! He was found wandering in a park and no one came to claim him so we don't know a whole lot about him. Initially I was told he is 10 years old, but I think he's closer to 8 years old. You see, one thing we do know about Cody is that he LOVES food. Especially people food and that hasn't help him keep a svelte figure. In fact, he needs to lose about 30 lbs! I think once he sheds those lbs, he'll act like the younger dog I think he is. So, it's a diet and exercise plan for Cody!

Cody met the resident golden (Sam) and the ruler of the house, the cat Garrison, without so much as a blink. What a good boy! He's housebroken, did great during the bad thunderstorms we had here last night and does well in the crate. I do think that Cody was a spoiled boy in his former life as he does like to get his own way (who doesn't, right? Ha!).

He's a big, cuddly teddy bear, though, and we'll enjoy getting to know him better. Hopefully he'll get to like the camera a bit better...we'll keep working on getting a more photogenic shot. He's a beautiful light red color and has the LONGEST tongue - yes, he likes to give kisses! Stay tuned!

Woo-Hoo! Cody has a sponsor! Don M, thank you so much! I think we finally found a food that Cody likes and maybe he's getting over losing his buddy, Sam, 2 weeks ago. We'll be visiting the vet when we get back to check out those growths on his lip and some odd liver enzyme levels, but staying at the cabin this weekend has definitely rejuvenated our old boy. He's loving it here. Sending a couple of pics from yesterday just for you Don M!!!

More Cody pictures!

Monday, June 2, 2008

Cody has been with us for almost a week now and he continues to make himself right at home. He's met a bunch of our neighbors ranging in age from teenagers to senior citizens (gosh don't let them read that! haha) and is definitely a social butterfly. Cody is quite the leaner and at 108.5 lbs, you'd better be ready for that lean! 100% Love Muffin Machine! He met some younger kids at PetCo last night and while he did very well with them I think he would do best in a quieter household.

Cody likes other dogs and might even start a bit of play if they're willing, but he does not appreciate the young ones who get in his face. Today he just couldn't understand why the little Westie was so mean to him at the vets this morning. He had such a puzzled look on his face, the poor thing! I've attached a couple new pics of him. Finally got a good shot with his ears up. The other is him all tuckered out. See he, Sam and Garrison helped me move lots of mulch around today. Ok, I hauled the mulch and they supervised :-) But it's still hard work! And he did very well off-leash today (he trailed the leash in case I needed to "help" at any point and I never did). Hey wait...Cody wants to say something to all of you:

"Hi folks. Cody here. Wanted to let you know how grateful I am that RAGOM got me off the streets. I'm having fun here at my foster home all except for one thing...they're not giving me enough food! Foster Mom keeps saying this "diet" word and today she and the nice lady-vet kept talking about this "thigh-roid" thingy that maybe isn't working right. They said that could be why I'm so pleasantly plump. Foster Mom and the vet both agreed that it would be an easy fix and the meds are very inexpensive - Foster Mom should know because her previous golden has this "thigh-roid" issue too so she could tell my new family exactly the best place to buy the meds. The nice lady-vet will be calling mom soon with the results of the test.

I don't care just so long as I keep getting hugs and kisses and oh yeah, lots of treats! I'm a good boy and know sit, lay down and shake and I have a great smile, don't ya think? I'd be fine with another mellow dog or would really love to be your one and only. Cats are ok, too. So if you're looking for a big hunk of love to keep you warm at night and fill your days with smiles, I'm your man. The Cody Man!"
