Cody 13-092

The amazing Cody is 7 years old and a PB Golden Retriever. He was surrendered because his previous owners felt they weren’t able to give him the attention and exercise that he needs. It’s obvious that Cody was very well loved in his previous home. He passed his vet visit today with flying colors and is now up to date on vaccines. His fecal and heartworm test were also negative. Cody will be neutered next Thursday (4/11) and will be ready to go to his forever home as soon as he heals. He will be micro-chipped this week. Cody weighs 61 pounds and is close to his ideal weight of 63-65 pounds. He did great for his bath, ear cleaning, nail trim, and grooming.

Cody moved into our home like he’s lived here his entire life. He is an extremely happy dog and loves everyone he meets! He gets along with our resident dog, Finn, and foster brother, Vinnie 12-382. Cody loves kids (lived with young ones in his previous home and an 8 year old here) and he gets along with our cats. The only negative thing I have found with Cody is that he pulls on the leash. He does much better with a Gentle Leader. He is just SO excited to meet people and smell new things! He would definitely benefit from obedience classes. Cody is very active for his age and loves to play fetch and go for walks! He also likes to wrestle and play tug with the other dogs. Cody would do well in almost any home. He will need a fenced in yard, as it is reported that he will wander off if allowed to be outside off-leash. At this point, we don’t think he has any other requirements.

Cody has been with us for seven months now.  When we first got him in April, he tried and succeeded to escape out the door several times.   Every time we either had to give chase or jump in the car and drive around the neighborhood.  He always came to us when we found him (which we luckily did), but there were some scary times.   I started ringing a bell every time before I feed him to condition him to know that it was dinnertime.   So, the last time one of the grand kids opened the door and Cody got out all I had to do was run, get the bell, ring it and there he was coming back home for dinner.  He really doesn't try to run away much anymore.  I think he's realized that this is his home now.

He pulled on the leash something awful when we first got him so I took him to obedient class and worked with him alot.  He learned quickly and can walk next to me now like a perfect show dog (even without the leash when in the fenced yard), although he does still pull when he gets excited.  He continues to "stalk" birds and squirrels in the back yard and his antics, stalking and chasing are fun to watch.

We had to teach him how to jump in the pool and where to get out (there are stairs and a bump-out area on the deep end).  He was pretty frightened of the water at first but it didn't take him long to realize he's a Golden and swimming is second nature to him.  He had a fun summer, swimming with the family.  He doesn't go into the pool unless someone else is swimming so getting wet when we didn't want him to wasn't a problem.

What a wonderful, beautiful companion he is.

Cody has been with us for almost three weeks now. We know his first family must have loved him very much because he is a gentle, sweet, sweet dog. We think they gave him up because of his high energy, which for a six year old, he has in abundance. He loves, loves, loves his new big yard, and he takes his job of keeping the squirrels and rabbits out of my garden very seriously. He is so funny to watch when he spots a squirrel on the fence and stalks it in slow motion before giving chase accompanied by some barks. We are already enrolled in obedience school so he can learn to walk nicely on a leash and behave when at the park and out for other social occasions. At first he really pulled on the leash and neither one of us enjoyed our walks but he is already getting much, much better and we are both enjoying some very long walks. In the evenings we like to walk to the park to visit with neighbors and the kids at the park, or else we walk down to the lake to sit on the end of the dock and watch the geese and activity on the lake. He also likes to play fetch in the yard and will bring his ball back and drop it over and over for someone to throw again. Cody is so smart and willing to learn new things.

Thank you Ragom and a big thank you to Michelle, his foster mom, for checking applications and contacting us about Cody. He is a perfect joy!

We must appologize to our sweet Cody! We thought he was 7, but after looking closer at his paperwork, he's only 6 years old!

Cody has been a wonderful foster for us and is always a happy boy. He is constantly carrying around a tennis ball or two, and loves to play. He has recovered from his neuter surgery and is ready for his forever home. He has a wonderful family coming to meet him this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed that it's a perfect match!

Cody is the quintessential Golden Retriever! He is so happy and well-adjusted. He loves everyone, loves toys, loves kids, and loves life! Cody is a wonderful, active dog and we are so lucky that we get to foster him. Cody knows several commands – sit, stay, down, off, shake, and usually come, although he has selective hearing when I call him when he finds something more interesting out in the yard! We are also working on “out,” mainly for when we are cooking in the kitchen and don’t want the dogs in there. He’s doing very well! Cody doesn’t jump up on people. He can be a bit grabby with treats, so I am working with him taking them nicely. He occasionally tries to get on the couch, but will get down quickly when asked, using the command “off.” Cody plays with the other dogs, but he would also be fine as an only dog. We have had several thunderstorms this week, and they have not bothered Cody at all. The vacuum also doesn’t scare him.

Cody did have 1 pee accident the first night he was with us, but has not had any since. I’m sure he was very nervous and didn’t know our house and routines. During the day, Cody is baby-gated in my bedroom with Finn and Vinnie 13-092. I think Cody would be fine with free roam, but the other two pups have not earned that privilege yet! Cody sleeps on a dog bed on the floor of my bedroom each night and is always right there by the side of my bed ready to give kisses when the alarm goes off in the morning.

Cody was neutered on Thursday and is recovering nicely. He will need to recover for a few days and then he will be ready to be adopted! If you are interested in this amazing boy, please contact your placement advisor!
