Daisy 05-407

Profile

12/4/05: Daisy arrived on Thursday and has settled in very quickly. She is a total sweetheart and has been a pleasure to have around. She is a 4-year old purebred Golden, medium-sized, medium-gold color, has the cutest face, and my favorite part... this very fun whispy blonde hair on the front of her front legs. I took her to the groomer on Friday but didn't let them cut it, so she has clean whispy hairs which is even better. She smells great!

Daisy checked out great at the vet, other than double ear infections, which don't seem to bother her too much, considering my Golden boy Mason is always tugging at them to get her to play and she hasn't minded too much. At first she was very unsure about letting me put drops in her ears, but after the first few times, she began to trust that it wouldn't hurt. We got her UTD on all her shots, micro-chipped her, and confirmed she has been spayed. She tested negative for heartworm and is now on Interceptor. She weighs 75 lbs. but is carrying a few extra... the vet confirmed her ideal weight is more like 65 lbs. We are working on that, switching over her food and putting her on a 2x/day schedule, rather than letting her "graze" all day. She has adapted very well to it and gobbled up her last few meals within minutes.

Daisy has gotten along great with Mason, and has been very tolerant considering he is a 1.5 year old with endless energy and would play 24 hours a day if he had his way. Daisy's left back leg seems to bother her at times - and other times not at all - so the vet suggested watching it for a bit before taking x-rays. She is a young 4-year old and loves to play like a puppy, but she definitely tires more quickly than he (also probably due to the extra weight she is carrying). She lets him know when she is done playing - a little too nicely in my opinion as he doesn't always take the hint :) and I have had to separate them in the house at times just to give her time to rest.

Daisy slept in a crate the first night but soon proved herself completely housetrained (no accidents so far) and very trustworthy. I haven't seen her pick up anything that wasn't a dog toy. She is so easy to please and gets SO excited about the toys, as if she hasn't had too many in her past. She will take the toys out of the basket one by one and play with each of them before moving on to the next. Mason just watches her and might not be entirely happy about it, but I am grateful to her for teaching him to share!

More soon... I've taken a bunch of pictures but am having technical difficulty getting them from camera to computer, so check back soon for pictures of this cute girl! I'll have a better idea next update of what type of family would be best for Daisy... assuming I can let her go :)
