4/29/07: My name is Daisy (I think my age is about 7) and I know you are all interested in hearing my story, so I wanted to get the pics and update on the website as soon as possible.

I arrived in foster care on April 28 after a very long drive from Missouri. I was very nervous after leaving home yesterday; and, I did not understand why my owner let me go.My previous owner really thought alot of me. I was his favorite and he taught me commands and he used to brag about me to his friends because he would put a piece of chicken on the dash of his car and tell me not to eat it; and, I would obey his command - even after he left me alone in the car with the piece of chicken.  And then he would reward me for being such a good girl; and give me that tasty chicken when he got back to the car. I do love treats.I am pregnant, so I will keep you posted on the arrival of my babies and post pictures, too. I'm not exactly sure yet of my due date. I am going to the vet clinic in Ankeny tomorrow, so I'm anxious to talk to the vet there - he has offered to help me.I really like humans - I will approach you with a wagging tail and give kisses. So I guess you could say I am not typical of an adult female who has came from outside conditions with not much human contact. I've calmed down a little since yesterday and the trip; and, now i'm just plain excited to be here. I'm curious of all the new sights and sounds and I've got so much to learn about and explore. I am wearing a smile on my face. You can see from the snapshots that I am a very pretty girl. My foster mom said I am shedding a whole bunch. One thing that I must tell you is I am a little stubborn. I don't like to go in my crate. But - you know - I am pregnant! More to come on my temperament with the resident dogs and cat in foster care. I have not yet met them as I spent the night at Regina's house last night (another RAGOM volunteer). Before I sign off this morning I would just like to give a big thank you to the RAGOM volunteers who drove all the way to Missouri yesterday to pick me up. I'm beginning to understand why I had to leave home; and, I am beginning to understand that everything is going to be OK; and that all of you will take care of me and love me. Thank you!Daisy

Updates

Daisy has kept us on our toes the last two weeks. We spent the first week running around trying to get ready for the birth of her puppies, only to find out this past week that she actually wasn't pregnant. You heard me, Daisy is not pregnant! It was a wonderful surprise that Daisy will no longer have to worry about being a mother to a litter of pups,
she only needs to worry about being a dog now. So let me tell you what we've learned about this beautiful girl since she has been living with us. Daisy is such a sweetie, she definitely wants to be where you are as much as possible! This big girl weighs a surprising 95 pounds (hey, if you had given birth as many times as Daisy has, you wouldn't be in the best shape ever either!)! After discovering she wasn't pregnant, we've switched to diet food and have been taking 1 or 2 long walks a day. Everybody (two and four legged) in our house is trying to loose weight, so she's in good company! Daisy sits on command and we're starting to work on other commands as well. She LOVES to play with her ball. She'll play fetch with you, but it can be a challenge to get the ball back sometimes! Daisy would going barking mad whenever she saw our cat the first week. She's doing a lot better now, but I wouldn't recommend her to a family that has a cat as of right now. She does a wonderful job on a leash (much better than our dogs even!) and will jump right into the back of our SUV without a problem which was a great surprise and makes traveling easy.

Today we were able to celebrate a very special day with Daisy, she turned 7 years old! We sang, we had cake (everybody knows diets go out the window on your birthday), and she even got two new presents, a brand new collar and a stuffed lamb (which was completely destuffed in under 5 minutes).

A special thank you goes out to Golden Retriever Club of San Diego County (California), her sponser. It wonderful to know that Daisy has more people on her side than she's ever known in her life. If you were here, Daisy would give you a big kiss (she's REALLY good at sneaking those in)!
