Hi, I'm Daisy. My full name is My Sweet Daisy, which describes me very well.  I'm 1 1/2 years old and I came from a puppy mill in Arkansas by way of OK and MO, I made it to MN last Sunday.  I have had a very eventful few days.  Sunday night, after a long ride in a van, I arrived in Golden Valley where some really nice people checked me out and gave me a bath before sending me to live with my foster mom.  Monday I just got to hang around and enjoy being pampered.  I'm very skinny so my foster mom keeps trying to feed me treats and fatten me up.  When I went to the vet on Tuesday they found out that I am heartworm positive and I also have a few other health issues at the moment.  I start my heartworm treatment on Monday, so I won't be able to be adopted until I'm healthy and spayed but hopefully that won't be too long.  Keep checking out my website to see how I'm doing.

I just love to be petted and brushed. I can't believe that I spent the first 1 1/2 years of my life without anyone to pamper me.  I think I'm making up for lost time though.  Last Monday my foster mom's grandson came over and kept throwing something they called a tennis ball. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about it, but he kept looking at me funny and they kept going and getting the ball.  Silly boy!!!

...........

This is Daisy's foster mom. She is a very sick girl at the moment but with good nutrition and good vets she should be just fine in the future.  Keep her in your thoughts as she starts her heartworm treatment. It will be very hard on her, but she is such a trooper she will make it through with flying colors, I have no doubt.

Daisy aka Daisy-May, Dazer, Daisy-Dukkers continues to do great! Hard to believe she will be 7 this year.(X-Mas day!) I can't explain how much we love and adore her. She is so laid back and has the biggest heart. She loves to spend the summers camping with us. She is very tolerant of the foster cats in the home. She loves the baby kittens, I think she thinks they are her puppies sometimes! She is still scared to death of storms. All we can do is try to comfort her. Daisy is pictured with her brother Scooter on the left (golden lab mix) and sister Dakota on the right(yellow lab).

Thank you RAGOM for allowing me to adopt my Best Friend!

Daisy has been with us for over a year now and is doing fabulous. She is such a sweetheart. She loves her fur brother and sister but still has not figured out how to play with them...maybe she never will. She has started to play with me by pouncing a little bit but its almost like she gets confused and doesn't know what she is doing haha! She is much better at laying on the couch and snuggling :) Her storm anxiety had progressively gotten worse, which meant never leaving her alone during a storm and sleepless nights for us. BUT I would not trade her for the world. She is stuck with us! :)

From Daisy's forever family...

Daisy is doing just great in her new home. Here is a picture of her getting ready to watch the Viking / Packer game with her new brother, Scout, and sister, Dakota.

Daisy has chosen her forever home!!  Daisy now resides in Lake City with a mom, dad and 2 very social fur siblings that are about her age.  She is already learning the fine art of playing from her sister Dakota - actually Dakota now has a shadow named Daisy.  It was wonderful to see Daisy take to this family upon meeting them and act like this is where she belongs.  Attached is a picture of her with her new mom, dad and grandma.

Now that we have had several storms, some rather strong and noisy, I have a much better idea what Daisy needs in a new home.  So she is going to be taken off the unavailable list and ready to find her forever home.

The only behavior that is abnormal I have observed when we are having a storm is that she is very nervous, panting heavily, pacing and trying to find a safe place.  She crawls under my bed, belly crawls to the other side; like she is trying to find a safe place and usually ends up curling up in a ball in my english shepherds (Shelby) kennel.  The difference between her kennel and Shelby's kennel is that Shelby's is quite a bit smaller and it is also dark blue in color - so it is rather dark inside.  I have seen no destructive behavior at all.

It did my heart good yesterday to see Daisy and my resident dog start chasing each other around the yard.  This was the first time since Daisy came to stay with us that the 2 dogs actually started to play.

So what Daisy needs in a forever home is:

1) another dog
2) a fenced in yard isn't necessary but she would love to be able to just run free
3) a patient family that will help her with her storm anxiety
4) a dark kennel that she can go in and out at will

She is not a velcro dog by any means but she does want to be in the same room you are in.  And she will follow you from room to room.  She also likes to lean up against you and look up at you when you stop and stand still for whatever reason.  She does not get on the furniture when you are on it, she will get up on the couch if I'm out of the room.  Not my rule, I would love for her to jump up on the couch and cuddle with me.  She also seems very nervous when I put her on my bed.

I'm hoping to bring her to MnPaws this Saturday from 12 to 2.  She would love for you to come out and meet her and see what a sweetheart she is.

Welcome Daisy back to RAGOM!!  It was a difficult decision for her SO's to let her go but felt that they weren't able to handle her storm anxiety any longer.  So far there have been no storms since she has come to stay with me so I can't really comment on that first hand.  But as soon as we have a storm I will let everyone know what I saw.  We did have fireworks outside my house the other night and she started to get nervous but I put her in bed with me and keep petting her and she settled in and fell asleep.

This is what I do know about Daisy.  She is an absolute beautiful doll, she is sweet, has great recall, is housebroken, stays in the same room that am in - not a velcro dog but she likes to be able to see you most of the time, she loves people, she gets along with other dogs and cats, she has free roam, she is not food motivated and is a very easy foster so far.  But like I said there have been no storms since I have had her.

Daisy was a puppy mill momma and came into RAGOM in September 2007 with stage 3 heartworm and we weren't sure that she was going to make it.  She also had a bladder infection and then when we started the heartworm treatments she had adverse reactions to that too.  Because of that she cannot be locked in her crate - she had one of her severe reactions while confined in a crate - she does go in and out of her crate on her own though.  She sometimes even takes a nap or sleeps in it at night - her choice of course.  I fostered her when she came into RAGOM in 2007 so it is my privilege to have her again.

At the moment she is not available - at least until we can evaluate her storm anxiety and try to find out a way to help her.  Keep her in your thoughts as she really a very special girl.  If you are interested in sponsoring her or think she would be a welcome addition to your family after we figure out how to help her with her 'issue' please let placement know.

Daisy seems to be slowly getting stronger.  She's now trying to go out into the backyard with my two resident dogs.  Occasionally I take her out there on a leash, just so she can feel part of the group.  Otherwise she is confined to the outdoor kennel attached to the garage and the house.  I think that she has put on a little weight, I know that the two resident dogs have put on more than their fair share of weight (and they are supposed to be losing weight).  It has been almost two weeks since her first heartworm treatment and hopefully the worst side-effects from that one have past.  She still does like to sleep a lot and her energy level isn't very high.  But all considered she is doing pretty well.Daisy is starting to collect the stuffed toys in her crate this week.  She still doesn't know what to do with them, except carry them to the bedroom and then put them down.  She has her favorite one that she sleeps with though.  She gingerly takes a toy out of the toy basket, looks around to make sure that no one is watching and then she sneaks into the bedroom and puts it down close to her crate.  Her crate is left open all the time and so far today she is prefering to nap in there.  Somedays she likes to nap in the eating area but today she isn't straying too far or for too long from her crate.  I just let her do whatever makes her feel comfy at this point.Keep Daisy in your thoughts as she still has a long way to go before she is healthy enough to move on to her forever home.

Daisy and a "few" of her favorite toys

Just a quick update on Daisy since her heartworm treatment. Daisy has been doing much better yesterday and today. She is actually eating dog food and wanting to stay out of her crate to take her naps. She even picked up a toy this morning and carried it around for awhile. This is the first time she has done that since she has been here. She wasn't sure what she was suposed to do with it but she put it down and then laid down next to it and took a nap. Keep Daisy in your thoughts as she still has a long way to go before she is well.
