I would like to welcome sweet Daisy Mae into the RAGOM family. Daisy joined us on Sunday so we are still getting to know her, but so far she is just a sweet senior gal looking for her new family. I have the pleasure of taking care of Daisy for this week until her permanent foster family returns from a trip, and then she will head over there until she is adopted.

Daisy was in the same home since she was a puppy and they surrendered her through no fault of her own. She is 9 years old now and will turn 10, June 3rd. Yep, that is her real birthday so we will help her celebrate!

Daisy has her AKC papers, weighs 68 pounds, has a slight under bite and has a soft and beautiful red coat with a little gray. Daisy is a little shy and so far not super extroverted but she has gotten along excellent with everyone she has met so far—humans and dogs. She immediately seemed to feel comfortable with my 2 fur-boys as they watched over her. I think that has really helped her to adjust to her new surroundings. When I first got her I was a little perplexed with her low growl in different scenarios and it was mostly around me and not the dogs! I shortly realized that it was just her talking, maybe expressing some concerns, but in no way has it escalated. Her previous family confirmed that she has never snapped at any human or dog, but it was just her sound of expression. After getting to know her a bit better, I can hardly imagine her hurting a flea.

Daisy seems to be in great shape and health. She is taking antibiotic eye drops for her right eye. I’m not sure what is going on, but will report back when she visits the vet on Friday. She is spayed, up-to-date on her shots and will start her heart worm preventative after we visit the vet. Daisy has a good appetite, takes treats very nicely, knows some basic commands and loves to go for walks. Daisy grew up with 3 children, so she is used to being around kids, but I have not tested that at my house yet. Nor have I had the opportunity to cat test her, but just a wild guess tells me she will be just fine as she has not shown any prey drive on our walks.

I have given her free roam of my house since day one while I’m at work and so far nothing has moved one inch while I’m gone. It’s funny having 3 large dogs roaming around in my little house all day and you would never know it—other than the fur I have on my rugs, you would never know they were even there. When I’m home, you know they are there because they are all at my side! Daisy is completely potty trained and has a very particular routine on when she likes to go out and do her business and when she expects to be fed! So we just go with her schedule!

I think Daisy would be fine in a home with dogs or no other dogs. I do think that she needs companionship and your attention and not be left alone too much. I have seen no signs of Daisy trying to run off, so I think a fenced yard is optional.

Unless the vet reports otherwise, I believe Daisy is ready for her forever family. If you are interested in a quiet, sweet, low maintenance companion contact your placement coordinator.

With an extremely sad and heavy heart, we had to put our sweet Daisy-girl down tonight. She has had many health issues in the almost 2 years that she has been with us, but things really took a turn for the worse over the weekend.

Daisy came to us a month or 2 short of 2 years ago. She was with the same family for over 9 years. When she came to us she was extremely closed off. It took time, love, patience and guidance, but she eventually opened up her heart and let us in. Daisy was very devoted to me. Her devotion helped me to get through very tough times. I live with constant pain and I really think that she knew that we were kindred spirits.

She was also one of the funniest dogs I know. She was stubborn and pushy. If she wanted something, we knew it!! When we would go for a walk, while I was getting ready she would bounce her 85 pound self up and down on 4 legs, it was adorable.

The place right beside me is still warm from my Daisy. I will miss her more that I can possibly say, as will my husband, our resident, Stanley, our foster Katie and all who had the pleasure to know her. I would like to thank Mari for encouraging me to foster her, Julia for being her first foster Mom, Amy and Julie for being loving care-givers, Dayle for always being there and on Daisy's side, Cindy for being a wonderful mentor and loving friend and to Melissa MacDonald for so generously sponsoring her. Thank you to the Ragom family for being so amazing!

Rest in peace our sweet Daisy with knowledge that you were truly and fully loved! You gave me more every day than I could possibly give you! You live on in your Foster Mom's heart!

As I read about a wonderful Ragom volunteer who lost her sweet senior Golden, it reminded me how very lucky we are to have our Daisy in our lives. Daisy is a special needs dog and I am a special needs person, so we lift each other up. Daisy is sweet, loving, bossy and a total character. This picture shows her in the backyard with her new friend and occasional nemesis, Katie, our other foster. As often as she gets annoyed by her youth, she is also the one most likely to play with her in the yard (for 5 minutes, tops) or let Katie sleep right next to her. She never leaves my side and can absolutely sense when I have a bad day. She has been a foster for a very long time and we are blessed. Her health has not been great, and frankly, I am not sure what is to come. I have been fearful before and she came out OK, so I continue to hope and pray that she has more quality time with us. She just had a thyroid test and may have some neurological issues, we just have to wait and see. In the meantime, I will enjoy every minute that I have her by my side, just quietly loving me while I love her back.

Happy Holidays from me, Daisy, Stanley and their new RAGOM cousin, Gunner! Daisy loved having my sister's new Golden boy over for a visit.

Daisy has been doing pretty well these past few weeks. We have not been to the Vet for a couple of months! Daisy has her ongoing issues, chronic diarrhea and arthritis, but still remains the sweet, funny, bossy and totally lovable Girl she has always been. I think she has put on more weight due to the Gabapentin that she takes for her arthritis. We are working on getting her more exercise, but it is difficult because, due to my disability, I am not allowed to walk outside once the snow comes. We are working on it, though. It was so nice to see so many Golden lover's at the CR event. I will try and get Daisy to another event soon.

Happy Holidays to all of our wonderful RAGOM supporters!

After some feedback and reading my last update, I can see how it looks rather discouraging. While I am concerned about Daisy and plan to have her seen on Saturday, I want to reiterate that Daisy still has lots of moments of fun, playfulness and being her adorable self. There is no doubt that she has some health issues, but she is 11. My hope is that there will be something that they can do to make her sleep more comfortably. She has always been very vocal, quite a grunter, so it is possible that I am over-reacting to her night time noises. I will definitely send an update after we see the Vet this weekend. I have my concerns and hope for some helpful and positive answers, but just can't be sure until she is seen. The last thing I want is for this sweet, funny, adorable, stubborn and utterly lovable girl of ours to endure any needless suffering. We can always use positive thoughts and prayers. I will update as soon as I can. Daisy and I thank you all for your concern and I apologize if I caused any premature alarm.

Daisy is doing well. It has been an extremely busy month. We were gone for 10 days so Daisy stayed with a RAGOM angel named Amy. The best news was that our shy Daisy really loves it there! It makes it so much easier to leave her there knowing that she will be happy! Thanks Amy!

Daisy's health remains about the same with the exception of the infected hotspot. The abscess is finally healed, thank goodness! She is still being treated for her tummy issues, those are ongoing. Just recently she has been rubbing her eyes a lot so we had them looked at. The Vet thought it could be allergies so Daisy is taking a low dose of prednisone. We are hoping we don't see the same side effects we saw in the past, so far so good. Daisy will join us at Goldzilla 9/17 and will be so happy to meet lots of Golden Lovers! Daisy has a new cousin, Gunner, who found his forever home with my sister and family. We are so excited for our dogs to meet him!

Miss Daisy is doing quite well. She takes a few meds for stomach issues and another for her arthritis. She is enjoying the peace and quiet that comes with no puppy around. Although, I think she does miss the tug partner. She is so happy that the weather is getting nicer, she loves to sit in the back yard and enjoy a cool breeze. She is such a dear old senior girl, although a bit bossy at times. Just like the flower she is named for, Daisy brightens up the room! We are hoping to be at the event this Saturday, 5/14.

Saturday, April 16, 2011

Here is Daisy with our sweet little Zac. She has been amazing with him! He chews her tail and follows her around like Puppies do, but Daisy remains patient and gentle with him. Daisy has been wonderful with all 3 pups we have fostered lately. She loves to play tug with them and beat them in the game of fetch. Daisy may be close to 11, but occasionally she seems almost as frisky as a pup!

I would like to extend a sincere Thank You for the anonymous "carrot" donation for Daisy. In addition, Thank You to the family of Abby, who was obviously a very loved dog, for your "butterfly" donation for Zac. My heart goes out to you!

Daisy's world has been invaded a bit by another puppy. She just takes it in stride. She enjoys playing with the little guy and is a great sport when he is trying to annoy her. She is such an easy-going girl!

Daisy's health is about the same. She continues to have some minor treatment for her tummy and some pain meds for her Arthritis. We found a rather large growth on her belly that scared us a bit. It turns out that it is just a fatty tumor that requires no treatment. We are just supposed to keep an eye on it.

She has been running and playing with the puppy, having fun like a big kid. It warms my heart to see her happy and active!

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Our Daisy has been doing so well! She seems happier every day. We are still dealing with her minor health issues. She still has some minor tummy issues, but they are better. She has a medicine routine to follow daily. She is on prescription food for now, she has Pro-biotics sprinkled on her morning food and Tylan on her evening food. She also takes Tramadol twice a day for her arthritis pain. She plays in the backyard more and more often with our resident, Stanley. She has also been playing a lot with the new foster pup. Daisy does not always show the best of herself at events, she can be really shy. At home she is fun, funny, cuddly and playful. She still loves to play fetch down the hallway. We have a conflict this Saturday, but will plan to attend an event over the next weekend.

Saturday, February 5, 2011

Well, the puppy is gone and Daisy is back in her "happy place". Toni adored Daisy, Daisy tolerated Toni. She did enjoy playing tug with Toni, but did not enjoy her chewing on her ears, tail, collar and anything else she could get her teeth into. Daisy is so sweet, she was never cross with the little one. She would just look at me with a very pained expression. She saw the Vet for a recheck last week and we made a few changes. She came off of sucrulfate and the B12 injections. She will continue with the prescription food, the Tylan and we are sprinkling a pro-biotic on her food. Her stool has firmed up some but is still not "normal". She seems happy, is playing a lot of indoor fetch and enjoys being out in the yard and going for walks. Daisy is a joy to have around and so easy going. As I have said before, she is fine with other dogs and cats, but would do better in a home with either no or older children, twelve and above. I will be taking Daisy to one of the events next weekend, I will update later in the week. As always, thank you to Daisy's generous sponsor!

Friday, January 21, 2011

Dear sweet Daisy is doing very well. She is playful and fun loving. She continues to be on all her medicine but we hope to see some changes when she sees the Vet next week. In the meantime she is enjoying playing with ALL of her Cbristmas toys that her Foster-Grandma sent. I don't think she has ever had such a broad selection of stuffed animals to play with. She enjoys going outside but struggles with the cold. Don't we all! We will be attending an event very soon but have to get situated with our new Temp Foster coming in on Saturday. I will keep you posted on Daisy's health and how she does with a new puppy around. As always, thanks to Daisy's sponsor!

Merry Christmas! From Riley D. Merry Christmas! From Riley D.

It is hard to see but Daisy has little snow crystals on her nose. Every time she comes in after going outside she comes in with snow on her face. She likes to plunge her whole face in the snow bank which is too funny! She really loves being outside. Her stomach has stayed about the same, improved but not cured. She continues to get multiple medications and a bimonthly shot. Her Doc visits and meds are expensive. A sponsor would be of great help to RAGOM financially!

Daisy and I will be at the event at The Quarry on Sunday from 11 to 1:30. Daisy and I hope to see you there!

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Daisy is a Snow Girl! She loves it out there! At every opportunity to go outside she shoots through the door and out into the "winter wonderland". Even though the snow is up past her legs and she has arthritis, it doesn't stop her from bounding around the yard! She rolls in the snow, buries her face in it up past her eyes and, basically, just frolics! It is a joy to watch our 10 year old girl derive such pleasure from playing. It wasn't that long ago that her health and her medicine made that impossible. Daisy has an indomitable spirit. I learn from her daily about grabbing the most out of life. She is still taking multiple medications for her stomach and a pain med for her arthritis. She takes them without question or complaint, which is surprising because she is quite vocal! She has a guttural sound, not a growl, more of a moan, that she uses to express herself both for pleasure and complaint. She also continues to have B12 injections every two weeks. She keeps us busy but is worth every minute! Making her feel better is an expensive proposition and I know that RAGOM could use some help in that department. If there is anyone out there that could sponsor our Daisy-girl, I know that it would be greatly appreciated!

Here are a couple of pictures taken of Daisy by her dog-sitter recently.

Monday, November 29, 2010

Daisy is back with us after spending the holiday weekend with the M family. They took great care of her and gave her lots of love. She seems to be doing pretty well these days. Since she first came to us back in May, she has been taking medication to deal with chronic diarrhea. Initially they treated her with prednisone which made her sick and caused her to develop an ulcer. She seems healed from the ulcer and is on a few different meds. She also takes a pain med to help with her arthritis. She seems to have more pep in her step and is a joyful, happy girl again. I plan to take her to several of the upcoming adoption events. We hope to meet lots of Daisy lovers! She is a sweet, loving girl and we love her so much!

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Sweet Daisy girl is feeling a lot better! While she is still on several medications, she seems to be healed from her ulcer, her tummy is better in all respects and, once again, she has some pep in her steps. We have resumed our walks and she is showing more interest in her favorite game of indoor fetch. I can't express enough how gratifying it is to see her feeling better! She is such a love and is so devoted to us. She would make someone the most amazing companion. She does very well with our resident dog and cat, does not require a fence and does very well on a leash. I think that Daisy would be better off without young children. She is a joy to have around. If you would like to meet her, contact placement.

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Daisy and I are really enjoying the cool weather. We were at the Vet today because Daisy seems to have lost some of her stamina. The Doc said that it could be caused by the Prednisone that she is taking for her tummy. Since it does not seem to be making any difference, we will be weaning her off of the Prednisone. She has always been such a happy girl who loved walks and playing fetch. We sure hope she gets back to her old self soon. Daisy does not seem to have any serious health issues, just some of the things that can come with getting a little older. We love her so much, I can't imagine saying goodbye to her. However, I know it would be best for her to find her forever home as soon as possible. I think she will transition easily and show her new family the boundless love shares with us. Daisy is a very special girl. The family that decides to bring her home is going to be very lucky!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Here is Daisy with her special pal, Gabby. They get along so well! We had such a great time at Goldzilla! Daisy really enjoyed meeting so many of you! Daisy is shy around so many people but really comes out of her shell at home. She has been on prednisone which has slowed her down a bit but seems to help her tummy. She doesn't have any serious health issues, just a few of the things that go along with getting a bit older. She is still young at heart, though. I sure hope that someone out is interested in getting to know our Daisy better. She deserves a wonderful, loving home!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Here is Daisy playing her favorite game. It doesn't take long because she gets winded rather quickly. She is 10 years old, after all! She may be a "Golden Golden", but she still has a lot of spring in her step. She loves to walk around our house, enjoying the lakes and fabulous walking paths. She does well with the leash and would never run away.

Daisy would do best in a home with either no children or older, dog-savvy kids. She has some minor health issues, but nothing chronic or out of the ordinary for a girl her age.

Daisy and I met so many nice people at the Plymouth event yesterday. We may have spoken to her future family! How exciting!

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Nap time for Daisy! She is enjoying a relaxing afternoon. The heat has been difficult for everyone. As it gets nicer out we will be out for the walks that Daisy loves so much! So, if you are looking for a beautiful, sweet older girl to keep you company, Daisy is your girl! She is so good on leash and rides so well in the car. She does not need a fence but should go to a home with either no children or older kids. She would do fine with or without another dog. We will be at the Grandparents event in Plymouth next weekend.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

I can't believe that it is already time for the MN State Fair! Daisy and I will be there together tomorrow. We will be in the Pet's building under the RAGOM banner. We would love to have lots of visitors. Daisy is a sweet, wonderful girl. She is shy at first but always opens up. Because she is older and startled easily, it would be best for her to go to a home with older or no children. There was an incident with my five year old nephew because he jumped on her. She is wonderful on leash and in the car. She would be happy with or without another dog. I do not think that she needs a fence. She loves to play fetch, but mostly inside. She is currently on some medicine and prescription food to help her stomach. I don't think that she will need it indefinitely. If you are looking for a lovely girl with a sweet, big heart, come see Daisy!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Daisy, Stanley, Gabby and I have been enjoying each other's company and the air-conditioning!  It has been awfully hot for an older girl like Daisy. Instead of going for walks, she gets her exercise by chasing after the stuffed animals that I throw down the hallway. She is so easygoing that she is happy to be wherever I am. She spent the weekend with another foster, Julie, and her pack. She said that Daisy was delightful and welcome back anytime. Don't you want this easygoing sweetheart for your very own? If so, contact placement.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Daisy is resting and recovering from her first vacation with my family. It was an opportunity to learn more about what kind of forever home Daisy needs. Due to an incident with my nephew, where Daisy reacted to being scared and surprised, it would be best for her to go to a family with older children or no children. She did prove to be a bit of a "sandwich stealer" so dog-savvy kids would be best. She had so much fun running through the woods, chasing bunnies and playing with Stanley. She always comes when she is called and walks right next to me on walks. She did not swim but did wade in the water and drink it. She definitely likes it at the lake! The trip was more than 5 hours each way and you would hardly know she was there! She was her usual sweet and loving self and would make someone such a wonderful companion!

Thursday, July 22, 2010

I have been trying all morning to get a picture of my resident dog and cat along with our foster, Daisy. The problem is that my two resident animals will not sit still long enough for me to snap the picture. Daisy, on the other hand, sits like the lady that she is. Maybe next time! The picture above is from the Classic Car show. Daisy had a great time meeting so many wonderful new friends. Daisy does not usually standout as the friendliest of the Goldens at these events. She is a bit shy and takes a little while to warm up to people. However, once she warms up to you she is the warmest, sweetest, friendliest girl you could ever meet. I feel so blessed to be one of the people that she loves. If you would like to be lucky enough to be one of the people that Daisy loves, just get in touch with placement. Daisy won't be in attendance at events for a couple of weekends as she will be blissfully happy romping in the North woods!

Friday, July 16, 2010

Daisy is waiting patiently, along with her feline friend Gabby, for treats. She sits so patiently, like always. We have been walking every day and she just loves it! She walks so well on the leash, she shows our resident dog up every time. I have been leaving her alone while I take our resident dog for his walk and she does just fine. Daisy is a wonderful, mellow, playful and loving dog. Anyone would be lucky to have her. We will be at the Ollu event on Saturday from 11 to 1.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Here is sweet Daisy again! We are on our way home from the car show where we met tons of great people and dogs. Daisy is doing so well! We have taken care of all of her minor health issues and she is ready and rarin' to go! She has been so happy and content. She loves to play fetch with all of the stuffed animals in the house. Her favorite thing is for me to throw something down the hallway so she can run after it. We have also been taking a lot of walks. She does really well when she is by herself or when our resident dog joins us. She shows him how to behave on leash. If you are looking for a sweet, fun girl with tons of personality, then Daisy is for you!

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

I came home from shopping to the most wonderful, joyous greeting. My husband said that Daisy just sits at the garage door, tail wagging, waiting for me to come through the door. Since I got home we have had a rousing game of fetch and a few rounds of petting and scratching. When spending a quiet night at home, Daisy just radiates joy. She loves the simple pleasures of being at home with her foster family. Every once in a while she comes to me, dances a little and waits for me to cuddle a bit.

Would you like to have this wonderful, sweet, funny Daisy to brighten up your home and make your family complete? If so, please contact placement and let's talk about Daisy.

Saturday, May 29, 2010

Would you like a companion, a character that will bring constant joy and laughter to your life? Then you want Daisy! It occurred to me this morning one of the reasons that she is so special. She makes it such a joy to love her. She soaks it up like a big, red sponge! I think that one of the differences between Daisy and my resident dog is that Stanley takes the love for granted, while Daisy revels in it. She rolls around in it, she dances and wags over it. At least a few times a day she will come to me just to cuddle for a minute. She will stand and wag, her back end swaying back and forth. She will let me hug her and give the love right back, with gusto. She makes everyday more fun and filled with joy.

She walks on the leash like a dream. She can be at home alone, and with my Resident Dog and Cat. The best part of leaving her is coming home. Her greetings are the best! She can hardly contain her joy in seeing her people again. Don't you want to be one of her people?

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

This adorable picture of Daisy was taken at a RAGOM event last weekend. We had a busy weekend starting with a trip to the Vet. I was worried because Daisy was panting so much and because of a small lump on her back. The Vet assured me that she is fine. The lump is a cyst and the panting is due to the hot weather. Once we got the air-conditioners in, the panting slowed. She is in good health! We went for several walks over the last few days. She loves walks and does so well on a leash! She and Stanley have been having fun playing in the backyard. We have a fence but I don't think it is necessary. She does well with our resident dog but I think she would be OK as an only dog, as well. That is as long as she wouldn't be home alone much longer than a regular work day. Daisy is a pleasure and so easy! She doesn't have accidents or chew on things, she is totally home ready!

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Sweet Daisy is having a good week. She enjoyed meeting people at PetSmart and plans on being at the event at Ollu Dog Wash this weekend. Daisy is a joy to have around. She is sweet, playful, loving and wonderful on a leash. She has adjusted so well to our family and would do the same in her forever home.

Friday, May 14, 2010

Spring flowers are blooming here in South Mpls., especially our Daisy. Each day she becomes more delightful. She has a real joy for living that is contagious. She takes such pleasure in a game of fetch, she makes it difficult to stay in a funk too long when she is around. Daisy is not only perking up the people in our house, but the animals too. Our resident dog can be pretty mopey when the weather is yucky. Daisy just moves her fun indoors, which encourages Stanley, too. Last night I saw one of the sweetest things ever. Stanley was on the couch and Daisy walked over to him. She was nose to nose and then she lightly rubbed her face along each side of his face and then they kissed! It was priceless!

Daisy is a pleasure to walk on a leash. I am disabled and walk with a cane. Daisy is totally respectful and does not pull. She does not even require a Gentle Leader. She plays well in our yard and is not a runner. She has been left at home with the other animals for about 6 hours, so far. I would not hesitate to leave her for a few hours more. I have to end this because our Miss Daisy wants to play. If you would like to meet this precious girl, she and I will be at the PetSmart in Eden Prairie starting at 2:00 pm. On Saturday May 15th.
