Destiny arrived at her foster home on Saturday, 4/28 after a very long trip from a puppy mill in Missouri. She was a wonderful traveler from Ankeny to Muscatine. She relaxed in her kennel and got acquainted with one of our resident Goldens, Bosco. She was frightened when we made the exit from the car and walked to the fenced yard. We let our dogs out one at a time to meet and greet Destiny. She had no problem with any of them. She was afraid of us though. She has begun to bond with me, but she is still unsure of my husband and stepson. I couldn't get her to eat anything until Sunday night. I had a small can of canned chicken that smelled too good for a hungry girl to pass up. I left it in her safe spot with her and she ate it after I left the room. She will now eat pieces of hot dogs from my hand and I even got her to eat a little bit of dry dog food. We waited until Sunday afternoon to give her a bath and she smells so much better. She has moved from her safe spot in the kitchen to her safe spot behind my husband's recliner. She moves about some with the other dogs when she thinks no one is watching her. It is going to take time to win her trust. She is improving little by little.

I took her to the vet yesterday. She weighs 56 pounds and is heartworm negative!! She has been updated on all of her shots and is scheduled to have her spay in a couple of weeks. My vet thought it would be a good idea to let her get settled in with us before we have her spayed. He said that she was in surprisingly good health for a puppy mill girl. Yea!

I will send in another update as I get to know her a little more. She has been the sweetest girl. You can tell that she wants to trust us and be like the other dogs. I am sending our first pictures of her. She is a very beautiful dark Golden. One of her ears has been chewed on some, but she is still a beautiful girl.

Hello, we have wonderful news for our Destiny girl. There is a family that is interested in her. As you can see from the new pictures of Destiny, she is running and playing for joy! She is so excited to know that she might be adopted soon! Destiny has been making steady progress with trusting people and she loves to be close to me now. She still startles easily, but she is begining to take baby steps toward trusting people. She has come a long way since the end of April. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for Destiny! You go girl!

Destiny is always wound up first thing in the morning and today she was even spinning in circles! Of course, they all get fed first thing in the morning and that in and of itself gives little Destiny courage. I put new toys in the toy box today while all of the dogs were outside doing their morning business. I've found that since we have one dog that guards toys at times, it helps to mix the new toys in with the old ones in the toy box. Sometimes they don't realize that the toys are brand new and they all play without a problem. It didn't take them long to find that the toy box had more toys than usual. Destiny seems to love the rope toys and she will carry tennis balls back to her safe place behind the recliner. She is so cute when she plays outside with our other Goldens! Because she is small, she will stand up on her hind legs and hug them around the neck to play. I haven't been able to get a picture of her doing that yet, but I am sending two pictures of her in her safe places with our Goldie Girl and Sophie, our senior. You can tell how little she is from these pictures. Goldie probably weighs about 80 pounds and is nearly twice as tall as Destiny.

Destiny is showing more of her true Golden personality these days. She is much more trusting of me and comes to me openly if I am the only human around. She is still very cautious of men and won't come in from outside if my husband or stepson is letting the dogs in. We have had this sweet little girl with us for two months now and she has greatly improved since we got her. We still have to watch that she doesn't have unsupervised time around electric cords or phone cords. We make sure that they are covered by rugs or those cord covers. Sometimes just before our alarm goes off in the morning she will wake up and start tugging on the blankets or top sheet from the end of the bed. If we don't pay attention, she tugs too hard and we hear the sheet start to rip. I think that her intention is to get us awake so that she can have her breakfast!

If you have a quiet home and patience, she would be a perfect companion for you. She has been steadily coming out of her shell and she loves the wonderful Golden Life that is beginning for her.
