I have been very surprised at how well Dexter adapts to all the changes he has had in his life lately. He is now back with me and my brood in St. Cloud after his neuter. Thank you Foster Mom, Sue! He came back to four dogs in his environment and he did very well running and playing with all of them. Then he had a week alone with just Charlie and Leah, the resident dogs, where he tried his best to keep up with the two bigger Goldens. Now we are dog sitting two very special RAGOM girls, Roxi 08-028 and Molly 08-029, so we are back to five dogs in all. Add that to the five kitties and we have quite the group! Everyone is getting along very well.
Dexter has turned into a wonderful house guest. He rarely jumps on the furniture or my bed. He is very content to lay on his doggie bed right beside me. Even though he does not quite like being in a kennel, he is slowly getting used to it. Dexter has had an upset tummy so we have him on a special food until he is totally better. He seems to be doing just fine with it. He has been playing with all four dogs and he seems to love it. He loves to rough house with Charlie, even though there is a 40 pound difference. Then he comes in and zonks out as close to me as he can get. He likes to follow me wherever I go but he is not a pest. He also does not beg for food. The vet said he is a little underweight, so we are working on him gaining five pounds and me losing five pounds!
Dexter would be great as an only dog in his forever home but he would be fantastic with another fur buddy. When Dexter came to me a few weeks ago, he did not know what toys were or even chew bones. He has learned so much from Charlie and Leah and he just seems to be a happier boy when he can run and play with them. Dexter is a flat coated retriever and as soft and silky as they come.
