Diamond is a 1.5-year-old female Golden/Lab mix that came to RAGOM via the State of Minnesota on 2/9/13 along with her litter mate, Phoenix. The dogs were rescued from a small shed that was described as an “outhouse full of urine and feces.” They were housed in two separate cages that had metal grate floors. Both dogs were debilitated from malnutrition, dehydration and lack of free movement and exercise. Phoenix could not even stand up.

Despite her condition, Diamond was happy and playful when she came into our care, but she soon took a turn for the worse. On 2/16 we brought her to the emergency room, where the vets diagnosed a possible blockage in her stomach. During surgery the doctors removed 36 inches of dead intestinal tissue. Because Diamond’s immune system is compromised, she is struggling more than usual to recover from the surgical procedure. To make things worse (if that is possible), she has Parvovirus. On a positive note, the sweet little peanut is making progress in her fight to live.

RAGOM is grateful for any donations you can give to help us help Diamond continue her fight. We believe she can beat this, and it’s our hope that she can soon return home, where she can heal and grow strong. In the meantime, her medical bills are piling up.

Diamond is a “diamond in the rough,” and she deserves her forever home! If you can find it in your heart to donate a few dollars, or even $325 for the sponsorship level, Diamond will send you puppy kisses.

Please make your donation today through the RAGOM Shop .

Updates

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Hello everyone out there, it is Diamond's foster mom giving you an update on my sweet baby girl along with pictures so you can see how wonderful and healthy she is now.

She has normal stools and that was one of the biggest concerns with her, but all is well in that department. She is so healthy and beautiful!!

She has free roam of the house when I am at work and has NEVER chewed one thing or done anything in the least naughty like you would expect from a puppy. She is really perfect. She sleeps with me on the bed and loves to snuggle in close, however she will go into the kennel in my room sometimes to sleep. We have worked on teaching her the kennel is a good place to be (considering where she has lived) and she eats her meals in the kennel. She eats so fast that I feed her in a muffin tin, but all I say is OK kennel up and she tears off to her kennel and waits.

She has been such a pleasure to have around, she has learned to play with the dogs; at first she was a bit rough and growled but now she just ruffhouses with Moose in the typical doggie play manner.

If you sit down and are quiet she is quite happy to sit by you and snuggle or chew on a bone or snooze. If you are up and about then she is up and about too. She wants to be with you and love you up.

She has never had an accident in the house, she goes outside to do all her business, so she is potty trained.

She has learned how to walk on a leash, we do use a gentle lead and she has adapted very well and I can walk all three dogs every night together. I must say she is a very smart girl, she will sit for you and she is good at taking treats from you.

If you are looking for a great dog, with a wonderful personality, smart and LOVES you to pieces then she is your girl.

Hi there everyone Diamond here - Sorry I have to type this my FM is slacking.

I am a very lucky girl because I have MORE valentines!! Thank you so much to "Clementine" you were a lucky dog to have Victoria but now she is sharing her love with me!! Also I must thank Buddy AGAIN wow dude you are very very sweet!

Ok I will get on to some very exciting news; my tummy is all better, there is no more throwing up, no more horrible diarrhea, and no more million - billion medicines FM is tossing down my throat. No more baby food and just this week my FM transferred me from boiled chicken over to really yummy kibble. The best news is (shhhh I am whispering this) I have really good poop and that is super news for a girl who just had a whole bunch of my gut taken out.

So now that I am not sick any longer let me tell you a bit about myself. First of all my tail wags at the sight of you at any given moment. I wiggle and jump with all my might in JOY. I am loving and snuggly, I love to sit on the couch next to FM. I like to sleep on my back with my feet in the air.

Foster mom leaves me out of the kennel from 6a.m. to 12 and the dog walker comes to let us all outside and I receive a little snack and water and then go into the kennel in the living room with my buddies until FM comes home.

I just love to eat - I eat a little fast and furious, but soon I will understand that I will get food regularly and I do not have to share with anyone, or eat it so fast. Sometimes FM places it in the palm of her hands to slow me down---(does not work)

I get to go for walks, in the beginning I went from side to side and in and out and pulled you down the street. (well I did). Now FM puts a gentle lead on me and our last walk went beautifully!! I am learning how to walk and I love it more each time. I bark now when I see the leashes coming out. Nellie whines - Oh and FM gave me Nellie's leash (ha), because it is a martingale and is safer in case I get scared FM will not lose me.

I have not had one accident in the house, for which I am extremely proud of - thank you!!

At night I sleep with Nellie and Moose and FM - Sometimes I decide we should all get up and play (I guess at the wrong time). Tail is wagging and I crawl all over FM. Then I go into the kennel with my nice bedding sitting next to the bed and I snuggle in and sleep until I am HUNGRY.

I love to ride in the car and am a very good rider, in general I am a perfect girl. I want nothing more than to have my forever family and be loved and fed and live the good life. If you should decide you were interested in me you know what to do. I promise I will love you forever.

Ok gotta go Moose wants to play!

Please let me start off by saying Thank You to Lorna for my valentine – I feel so loved and blessed.

Diamond here J to say hi to everyone – Whew what a crazy last few weeks, I have been very uncomfortable and really what is with all the puking –ish…………….

First of all I have to thank everyone for all the prayers and love and concern for me; I felt all of it and I am fairly certain without all those good vibes and prayers and RAGOM I would not be here today. All the tubes are out and so are the staples in my tummy. I only have 3 out of 6 meds to take and I am happy and acting like a dog. Still have the “Runs” as FM says. But always do my business outside. I am eating boiled chicken and boiled hamburger for my meals and will continue until I have better poop.

Who remembers Snoopy – remember his dance? I can dance like that – it is pure ecstasy when I see FM coming for me. I jump up and dance an add a wiggle just like Snoopy. (Well foster mom says it is like Snoopy).

I do not have to live in a kennel any longer, I receive food on a regular basis (3X day), and I love my food. I sleep on the couch or chair or my favorite spot is on the bed on the pillows. I hear FM say I have hit the jackpot of life (not sure what that means), but I can tell you all of this is so much better than where I lived before… Horray.

I will get some pictures to all of you soon – going on a road trip with Moose and Nellie this weekend, looking forward to a new adventure.

Thank you so much to Stacy Ouellette for your donation to help Diamond's recovery. YOU are another angel, we are overwhelmed with the love coming our way!! Oh and Diamond has another valentine - Whoot Whoot another shout out and thank you to Kevin and Cynthia Smith in memory of "Laker-Man" Love you all so very much, and thanks for rooting me on!! I am a very lucky girl.

Diamond is doing very well, last night she ate a little of the hamburger and rice with no issues, until the last pill of the night then we threw up a little. She slept on the bed all night with us. She had a little bout of coughing and gagging at 2 a.m. but no vomit.

This morning she was up and happy to see my dogs and go outside for the potty break. Had her first round of meds and then ate a much larger amount of hamburger (spits out the rice). Tried to fake her out with one of her pills in the hamburger and she sniffed that out; ate everything but that one piece (little stinker). But she is tolerating her meds better today and not putting up as much of a fight for me to get them in.

Yesterday I placed her in the kennel so I could walk my two and as we were coming up the driveway I heard her barking (first time I have heard her bark). She was all worked up!! Did not like it a bit that we all left her.

She has gotten so very skinny so getting food in her will be essential for her recovery. Today we will try chicken along with hamburger and hopefully see her eat more food along with keeping it down.

Enjoy a few pictures of her outside walking around!!

Guess WHAT I have another sponsor how lucky am I--Mary Mary you are my angel. I cannot thank you enough for your support with my journey! Come and visit me so I can give you hugs!! Thanks so much again. I love you all And "Fedo Crew" thanks so much for my Valentine - Oh and Buddy 12-343 YOU too for the wonderful Ragom Valentine and last but not least, Dave Daily thanks --Hugs and Kisses from Me :-}

Foster Mom here - Diamond came home tonight and we are taking it slow, she has not eaten but has had water. Has thrown up a few times and she has alot of medicine to give her!! All day long by the 1/2 hour to hour all the way until 11:15 at night. But I am happy to do it.

I know she is so happy to be out of isolation and all alone in a kennel. She rode home well in the car, and we have done nothing but snuggle. Moose and Nellie were happy to see her back.

I will update you tomorrow and let you know how my night went.

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Well bless your soul Jasper!! Diamond wants to tell you just how much she thanks "Jasper of Jasperwood" for sponsoring her. When I get sprung loose maybe I can thank you with puppy kisses :-}.

I am still fighting hard to get better.......... but without people like you and your amazing love for dogs like me I am positive I would not be here. Hugs from Foster MOM too, thanks so much for your help with Diamond. Moahhhhhhh

I visited Diamond tonight and MY what a difference, much brighter eyes (so good to see). She was also sitting up when the door opened, that was great to see. I got to open the entire kennel up tonight and her tail is just a wagging as I talk in the ridiculous baby voice (but she likes it) and she was genuinely happy to see me. I just kissed her up all over her face and feet. Finally I crawled into the kennel and she laid her head on my lap and I just rubbed her. Gave her a little massage and each time I would stop, she would look up at me for more. Finally I had to crawl out of the kennel and sat in front of her and you know in that golden way they reach their paws out at you to tell you............GIVE ME YOUR HANDS.

Today is the first day she has only thrown up once so her energy is very low and she lays her head down alot and is pooped. Poor thing she has things going up her nose and in her legs. It is so good to see her each night! I hope she likes my visits as much as I do. She is a precious gem and she still has a long road ahead.

Thanks for any help you can give to RAGOM for saving this little peanuts life, you will not regret giving this little girl a chance in life and just maybe someone out there could be her FOREVER.
