Profile

Dickory is a 2 1/2 year old Golden/Lab/Bordie Collie mix, neutered and UTD on everything. His previous family had to give him up due to a change in their living situation, but it's obvious he was a well-loved dog. He's had basic obedience and knows "sit", "stay", "down", and occasionally listens to "come", though unfortunately "leave it" and "no" have so far had no impact on him. I found out the hard way that he has a preference for socks, and since I only have curtains covering my closet, I've spent some time retrieving my socks before I've noticed wherever he's managed to take them. Aside from socks and my drink coasters, and the occasional look into my bathroom garbage, he's only chewed on the appropriate dog toys I have laying around.

Dickory is an extremely friendly dog who is somewhat excitable, especially around the two dogs here. He and Gus feed off each other, but I'm betting that once he settles in here a little bit, and Gus goes home, he'll calm down. He's already improved since last night and has settled down when given a bone or a kong to chew on. A little more obedience training will help a lot, too. He is a bit of a jumper, so I'd recommend he goes to a home with older children. He's used to being an only dog, and although he enjoys the company around here he'll do just fine as an only dog again. He's also used to being walked for his exercise since his previous home didn't have a fenced-in yard. Plus, he's crate trained and sleeps in it at night and when home alone during the day. Wow, so much information to tell! I'll keep you posted as we get to know each other a little more.

We lost a great friend and companion on Saturday 4/21/12. Dickory passed away on his own after a becoming ill earlier in the week – anemia. We buried him under a cedar tree on a farm outside LeSueur. He and his sister Hickory have been so healthy, never requiring any treatment beyond check ups, but every dog has his day. Dickory passed just a few months after his brother Doc (02-265) – we are sure they are wrestling together like they did the last time they were together 9 years ago. We were so happy to have the opportunity to reunite Hickory and Dickory 8 years ago - they did everything together – wrestling and playing constantly even as they approached 10.

We are comforted knowing we gave Dickory a loving home all these years. He was truly part of our family always wanting to be right in the middle of us and always taking his self appointed role as our protector seriously. We will miss him and his companionship dearly.

Dickory's original bio from 2002:

Puppies Puppies Puppies !!!

What do you get when you mix a border collie, a lab and a golden?
Intelligence, loyalty and a golden temperament.
Cute little puppies too!

(NOTE: The original web page in 2002 had four puppies on the same page... Hickory, Dickory, Doc and Clinton.)

Dickory was born July 25, making him 5 weeks old. He is 1/4 lab, 1/4 border collie, 1/2 golden retriever. He loves to play with the big dogs and is very very good about letting us know when he has to go potty. He is left out when we are home and so far very few accidents (only when there was a lot of people here, then he was too excited to go outside) Dickory won't be ready for adoption until he is 8 weeks old on Sept 19. He has had his first set of shots and will be be scheduled for neutering before he leaves.
