Diesel 06-352

Profile

8/24/06: Meet Diesel, the Golden boy! Diesel is 2-1/2 years old and has lived outside until now. In the past two days, he has moved into our home and been faced with a huge list of new things--and is doing very well with the challenges. He slept in a crate last night for the first time ever, and did not complain at all. He has no storm anxiety, because the other two dogs here were frantic during last night's thunderstorm and he seemed not to care. He's doing GReat on housebreaking! This loving dog wants to swarm us with affection, but is quickly "getting it" that we want all four feet on the floor instead of two wrapped around the waist. He pulls vigorously with a regular collar, but his very first walk with the Gentle Leader was a big success. He's eager to please, so we are sure he will do very well with his forever family's training and encouragement. He is a gorgeous light gold in color, and has a VERY thick coat (now trimmed for summer by his previous owner). He has been a perfect gentleman through bathing and ear cleaning. We're told he's well-behaved around children of all ages.

This strong young dog is going to need an active family who is willing to work with him on obedience training while providing plenty of exercise. We have a vet appointment in a couple days, and I expect to hear that Diesel needs to shed a few pounds from his stocky frame. Email placementatragom [dot] org if you'd like to meet this gorgeous boy! Photos coming soon!

Diesel had a trip to the vet today, and got a clean bill of health...except he could stand to lose a few pounds. He's a stocky, solidly-built boy at 85 lbs. - just look at him in comparison to our 60 lb female Golden. After the vet visit, my girls ran into Target for a few things and Diesel and I waited in the car. He couldn't figure out what he was supposed to do with himself in the van, had his hind end on the back seat, his front quarters between the middle seats (but he's too broad to fit), and finally fell asleep like that, back half sitting, front half standing, with his head draped over the armrest! He looked so funny. But he's steadily getting more comfortable with all the new things we're asking him to do, even jumped in the van without prompting at our last stop. He's a very smart guy and a quick learner.
