Dixie 07-109

Profile

3/26/07: We've had Dixie for just a couple of days, but what a sweetheart! She is six years old so no longer has any of the puppy exuberance - she makes an ideal house dog. She walks well on leash, she is completely housebroken and we have yet to hear her bark. She is quiet, sweet and always wants to be in the same room as you are. She doesn't hesitate to go for a walk but probably wouldn't want to go more than a couple of miles. She is fine being left alone in the house. One thing that she doesn't much care for is to take a ride in the car. She wants to find a low spot, such as the floor, and just stay there. None of that head-out-the-window activity for her. We think that Dixie would prefer to be an only dog or, if other dogs are in the house, she'd prefer them to be close to her age. She has no tendency to jump up on people and would be very good with kids. She sleeps quietly on the floor at the foot of the bed at night.

Dixie 07-109 -- Our beautiful girl is really starting to blossom now! She has been playing with the resident terrier Kyna and having a great time. We love to watch her change as she becomes more familiar with our family and dog. We took a long road trip this week and went to grandma's house. A 3 hour round trip. Dixie did great, and of course grandma loved our well behaved dog. She is getting ready to go on another long trip this weekend for Easter. She just lays so nice on the floor, and every stop she pops her head up to see if we are there yet.

Dixie went to the vet today. She is now fully up-to-date with shots and is chipped. "Did Dixie just get a bath?" the vet asked. "No, she always looks this good," was the reply. She weighed in at 57 pounds, less than one would guess just to look at her. It's got to be the silky coat that makes her look bigger than she really is. She is a very healthy girl.

She has started to come out of her shell; she's still a laid-back dog but has started to pick up and play with a ball. She is more than willing to play a game of fetch. Yesterday I told her that it was spring (in spite of the temperature and snow outside) and that we had to go out and get a fishing license. I gave her the choice to either stay home in the warm but empty house or to go with everyone in the car. She isn't very fond of riding in the car but she chose to go with rather than stay behind. She went down onto the floor and rode along in silence. She still doesn't like riding but it's better than being left behind.
