Doc 02-265

Profile

Puppies Puppies Puppies !!!

What do you get when you mix a border collie, a lab and a golden?
Intelligence, loyalty and a golden temperament.
Cute little puppies too!

(NOTE: The original web page in 2002 had four puppies on the same page... Hickory, Dickory, Doc and Clinton.
This current page is now for Doc, whose actual number is 02-265.
His number was listed incorrectly on the original web page.)

Doc was born July 25, making him 5 weeks old. He is 1/4 lab, 1/4 border collie, 1/2 golden retriever. He loves to play with the big dogs and is very very good about letting us know when he has to go potty. He is left out when we are home and so far very few accidents (only when there was a lot of people here, then he was to excited to go outside) Doc won't be ready for adoption until he is 8 weeks old on Sept 19. He has had his first set of shots and will be be scheduled for neutering before he leaves.

Hello,

I am writing with bitter sweet news. The good news is that we had a very wonderful friend for 9 years. The sad news is that we had to say goodbye today.

He had a wonderful summer and all was well. We took our annual BWCA trip and he had a blast. Today at Minnehaha dogpark, he collapsed on the beach suddenly. I believe it was due to natural causes and had nothing to do with swimming, etc. I started mouth-to-mouth while a passerby did chest compressions, but I never felt him breathe on his own. We asked the U to intubate him, but honestly, I think he was gone the moment he went down.

We will always love him dearly. His canine companion, Sirius, will walk in memory of his best friend. His ashes will be buried at his favorite beach, Minnehaha.

Gail and Ben H.

[Edited to add: the autopsy performed by the UofM told us that an angiosarcoma lesion was found on his spleen. It must have ruptured and bled out almost instantaneously.]

After 3 1/2 hours on the road to pick up the puppy mill dogs and with a long trip back soon to follow, a few RAGOM volunteers had the opportunity to stop in and meet Hickory, Dickory, Doc and Clinton. (Yeah, we were in hurry and the kids were loaded up, but what volunteer can resist puppies?!) Boy are they cuties! These little guys are beautiful, healthy, and full of fun and love. They are going to be wonderful buddies for someone quite soon.

Here are some new pictures of the pups...
