Hi, my name is Dove.  I've been in foster care with RAGOM for two weeks now, and it's been just awesome!  However, I didn't know that Foster Mom hadn't put my picture and story out on the Web yet so the resident dog, Libby the Yellow Lab, showed me how to work the computer.  Mom was busy planning our vacation and her 40th birthday, plus I think she's so in LOVE with me, that she may have subconsciously forgotten to tell all of you about me.

I am apparently the sweetest dog in the world; that's what everyone has been saying.  When we were on vacation, everyone wanted to see "the little one" - that's ME!  The other two dogs are nice, but I guess I'm cuter.  I weigh 48 pounds (but the vet said there's a 35 pound dog in there somewhere), and am slightly taller than a Cocker Spaniel.  Most people think I'm a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Springer or Brittany Spaniel.  I am gold in color, but have white paws, a white chest, and a white heart-shape on my forehead.  I have SUPER soft fur!

Here's my sad story:  I was a stray found along the highway in Missouri on April 5th, and taken to the local animal shelter.  I stayed there for about a month, nobody adopted me, and then I was moved to Iowa the first part of May.  The vet in Iowa examined me and guesses my age to be 9 or 10 years old, and determined I wasn't spayed.  They also found out that I tested positive for Heartworm, so I'm on some really strong antibiotics to get rid of them.  They also did surgery on me so that I can't have any puppies; YAY!  Then, on Mother's Day, a bunch of people transported me through Iowa to the Twin Cities in Minnesota - whew, that was a long day!

I do have a few regular medical issues that happens with us older gals; I have small cataracts in my eyes, a sore rear leg, and am a bit hard of hearing.  I have had really bad ear infections my whole life, and still kinda have one in my right ear, so time will tell if my hearing gets any better.  All my neighbors think it's cute that Foster Mom has to tap me
on the butt to get my attention, and then I give her a big SMILE :)

I've been a house dog my whole life, but I think I got lost one day and wasn't able to find my way home.  Now that I'm microchipped and I have this really fancy collar and tag, I'll never get lost again!  I'm not a runner at all, but since I'm hard of hearing Foster Mom keeps a good eye on me.  Where we went on vacation, the two other dogs and I were able to run around off-leash on 100 acres and we had a GReat time!  It helps having other dogs around, because I just stick around them and know when Mom is calling because the other dogs run to her.

I had Libby take this photo of me; sorry it's only one photo and it doesn't really show how absolutely cute I am.  More photos and stories to come, I promise!

Love,
Dove

Nothing much new in Dove-Land.  I have not yet heard from the vet's office regarding the travelling surgeon's opinion on Dove's rear foot, but I will follow-up and check on that tomorrow morning.  The Rimadyl has remarkedly improved Dove wanting to use her rear foot instead of holding it up, so that is really good to see.

I've been asked to possibly foster a dog who will undergo hip surgery, so I'm afraid that Dove will soon have to leave me for another foster unless we can find her a permanent home this week.  I know there are a lot of dogs on RAGOM's Available Dog list, but Dove is such a special girl...wouldn't someone just love to love this precious little girl?  I've had Dove for nearly 3 months now, and I've thoroughly enjoyed her company as though she were my own.

I've taken some new adorable photos; wouldn't you love to meet her?
