Dozer 10-185

Profile

Meet Doger (sounds like Dodger) or Dozer, we have some issues with which name is correct. His vet work says Doger and Dodger and they called him Dodger. The name given to RAGOM was Dozer, so since he answers to both, we're going with Doger pronounced as Dodger. Confused yet? You should be here:)

He's about 4 years old according to the vet. He was surrendered along with his 'brother' Colby 10-186 when their human had to go into a nursing home. Sadly he has lymes disease, anaplasmas and a UTI (urinary tract infection). He is on Doxy for the next 2 weeks and should have no lingering efffects. He is a big boy at a solid 88 lbs with no fat, a beautiful deep red curly coat, playful, a bit mouthy, loves attention and gives the golden paw. He wolfed down his food tonight and has had no accidents. I did discover he can move a baby gate if not solidly placed and he whines when you leave him. He is fine with Jax, my cocker, and ignored the cat that has appeared (we have 3).

It's Saturday and I am happy to announce that after a bit of whining at bedtime, he and Colby 10-186 settled in for the night. At 5:30 a.m. he announced it was time to rise and shine, and I found no surprises. However, after greeting Doger and letting him out I did discover he had peed at the spot he greeted me. I really feel this is excitement and with the UTI he just loses it. He ate a hearty breakfast and has been in and out playing. We are now going to brush and bathe today so will send in new pics in a day or so. This boy is so beautiful and loving and must have spent a lot of time with his human. And when he has had enough pics he gives the raspberry. Stay tuned for more down the line.

Dozer/Dodger here, just want to share my awesome news..........I've been adopted. Yep, for anyone who was waiting for the big holiday to be over and then check me out..........you lose! I was so lucky to be able to come into RAGOM, be vetted, and then go to a foster home where I was loved, fed, kept warm/cool and hung out waiting for my furever home. But now I'm on to an even bigger and better life. I will be the only fur butt and it will be me and my Dad. He's going to come home at lunch tomorrow and home early from work. Then he's off for a whole week!! Woo hoo, we will be able to go on walks, watch some t.v. and just hang out and get to know one another. I will probably miss Colby 10-186 a bit, but I think deep down I'd rather have my human all to myself. I think I got the best human Dad ever.

Foster mom couldn't believe how fast I jumped into the truck and was ready to go to my new home. She will be leaving for Canada and so won't get a report on me and my new life til she comes back. It's gonna kill her:) But my new Dad said he'd send pictures and emails and she could call anytime. Yeah, wait til he hears from her a couple times........stalker, just kidding.

Well, keep your fur butts safe this week end, be sure they have collars with IDs and watch the gates and open doors. Some of us don't like the fire works, and some of us are ok. But in case we get spooked and run, you want people to know who we are and where home is.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July Holiday.

love and kisses

Dozer.........aka Dodger

P.S. FM here...I can't believe Dodger has gone to his new home. He is one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever fostered, both in his handsome looks and loving nature. I will miss his welcome home greetings and at night those big eyes looking at me as he leaned against the bed and I petted him til he was ready to go to sleep. I told him to think of me tonight as he leaned against his new bed with his new human. Have a wonderful life, Dodger love, and I'll be checking in on you. I miss you already. luv FM

Dozer here, just checking in on this great Father's Day.  Wow weather couldn't be nicer, kiddy pool cooler and Colby 10-186 and Jax more pesky:)  Thought it was time to do my own update.

Where to start.......I really like the kiddy wading pool, though not as much as Colby.  I like to go in and get the ball or toy and get out.  I love chasing the ball when it's thrown and if I get it I will bring it back to FM or FD.  Don't always give it up real easy, and I try really hard to keep it away from Colby.  I am eating well.....and the other day too well.  FM put down the food and walked away and found out if my bowl is too close to Colby's, I'll eat mine and his.  Man talk about belching later:)  And yes I can really belch.  Any teenage kid would be impressed.  I take my meds in peanut butter or moist food.  Whatever.  NO accidents on my part, and I think the little 'sprinkles' before was from my UTI, and now it's on it's way to clearing up, so good to go.

I'm a lover but when Colby wants to wrestle I'm for it.  When I've had enough, it's enough and I let him know. I don't play with Jax (the cocker), but gotta admit Colby and I like to chase the cats.  They have decided to come in on the lower level rather than the mad dash across the deck.  To be honest I"m not sure what I would do with a cat if I caught it.  Anyway, I like other dogs and could be with or without a fur sibling.  I do LOVE my humans though and if given the chance would be on the couch or bed with you.  One night FM put us boys in the bedroom so she could let the cats out and SURPRISE......when she came back we were all on the bed to welcome her:)  Well, that little mutt gets up there all the time, and he invited us up, really he did.  But we got down when told to.  FM said something about trying to keep our options for adoption open by not letting us get up on the furniture and bed.......which from what I've heard isn't the norm around here.  Yeah, start with us, nice.

I got off the deck when the neighbors were leaving one night, but after a couple calls I came back up the steps and right back in.  FM really praised me and I got a treat.  Something about being a good boy and good recall.  Wonder if she wants to try it again.  We haven't been on walks yet between rain, work and the family being busy, so can't tell ya how well I'd walk on a flat leash.  Well, actually I can, I really pulled FM from the vet to the van when she picked us up.  Colby and I had to get microchipped on Thursday so I was put on a harness and FD came and helped as Jax had to get a shot.  But I'll see if I can get them out for a walk this week.

I'm a pretty laid back kinda guy.  Love to ride in the van, chase the ball, chew a bone, play a little, cuddle a little, kiss ya up a lot if ya let me and would like to find my furever home soon.  I know I would love camping or going to the lake, parties with lots of people but not so sure about cats.  I know I can learn cuz it's really not a prey drive so much as just wanting to chase and see what the cats are all about.  Guess I'll have to work on my manners with the cats.

I hear there's a big celebration coming up and lots of people get a long week end.  I think it would be an awesome time for me to be with my furever family as we could have a little extra time to get to know one another before the work week came back. I am house trained, don't chew on inappropriate  things, am just an all around great guy and could fit in pretty much anywhere.  So if you are an approved applicant and are looking for a handsome redhead to spend your big holiday and all the future holidays with..........call me!!!

Golden paws and kisses,

Dozer aka Dodger

P.S. Dozer and Colby have both been fine with t-storms, been home alone and nothing touched. I don't see fire works being a problem, but can't say without a doubt.

I've decided that from now on the big red guy will be known as Dodger.................no matter what it says anywhere else. It's what we call him and he seems to answer to it. So with that settled let's talk about his last couple days and nights. He and Colby 10-186 spent the first couple nights baby gated in the kitchen/hall/laundry area. No accidents per se, just the little dribble thing when I came down in the a.m. Last night I couldn't bear one more night of listening to him whine when I went to bed, so I brought the boys with me. He found a dog bed right next to my side of the bed, layed down and didn't move during the night. We all woke up more rested. He is so sweet, knows come, sit, down and takes treats pretty nicely, but does try to get the other guy's too. His appetite is good and takes his pills in peanut butter.

He met the neighbor lab, Lake, without problems. Lake has been around all my fosters and is submissive to new dogs, which makes it easy for him to come over. The meet 'n greet wasn't set up, Lake just sorta came over with his owner and got in the kitchen and the screen was open and the boys all came in. So all considered it went very well.

Though Dodger is big, he's solid at 88lbs. As you can tell from the pictures he's a big guy and loves his human attention. When I got home tonight he was so excited and mouthy, so I finally just yelled 'OUCH' when he grabbed my hand a couple times and he's been much better. Speaking of home coming, I got a nice surprise. I left for work and my husband was home til noon and he put up the baby gate before he left. When I got home I opened the door and called the dogs and the only one who came was Jax, my cocker. I could hear Dodger and Colby barking but they didn't come. Dodger had managed to get the baby gate moved enough so they could get to the other side and spent the day in the family room and upstairs hall. I quickly checked and nothing was chewed, moved nor any 'accidents'. Whew!! What good boys.

While Dodger wants attention and loves to give the golden paw or flip your hand, if you tell him to lay down he will. He's just a big lug, sweet as can be, but because of his size and being so mouthy yet, a home with small children would not be a good fit. I have no idea of his recall if he got loose, but to be honest he goes out and if I leave them out on the deck he lays by the door waiting to come in. I wonder if maybe he spent a lot of time indoors with his owner, or too much time outdoors without him. This weekend while we were out and on the deck he was content to be with us, and loved getting attention from TM (the man aka my hubby) when he took a break from yard work.

This guy was so good about being brushed but not so fond of the bath. We have hot/cold water in our garage so was able to bathe them out on the patio, with a nice rain rinse for all of us:) After they all played in the garage as we took the cars out so they had some place to run and play on Sunday with all the rain. It can be a long day with 3 dogs and no yard time.

One of the things that both Dodger and Colby do is growl at one another for various reasons. If one has a toy and the other comes near they growl. More so Colby than Dodger. But if Dodger is laying by the couch and Colby comes over to lay by him, Dodger sometimes will growl at him. Interestingly enough he doesn't growl at Jax.........who bugs everybody!! He also is not big on trying to take a toy away from the other dogs. He's not really interested in the cats per se, but Jax likes to chase the cats and has Colby going now, and Dodger just joins in. If you had dog savvy cat(s) it would probably be ok. I did bring Coulter my friendly boy out and sat him on my lap and let the dogs sniff and lick and Coulter just rubbed his face against them. I think it's more the running off than anything else.

While this boy has some manners and is a gentle soul, he and his human would do well bonding via obedience school. I don't get the feeling Dodger has much in the way of issues with other dogs. I think he could be any only dog or join a family with a fur sibling. It would depend on the other dog. So, if you are an approved applicant and think this big handsome guy would be a good fit and addition to your home and family, contact your placement advisor.

Stayed tuned for more on the Big Red Guy.
