Duke 05-054

Profile

Duke "Just call me pretty boy" is a handsome 14 month old boy. He will visit the vet on Monday to get up to date on shots and get the doc's "okay" for a neuter. Duke is supposedly NOT house trained, but has not had any accidents inside today, but we bring him out regularly. Duke rode to his foster home in a crate - he got right in and laid quietly in his crate. It appears he is used to the crate and rests nicely in it. He behaves quite well in the house, sniffing and wandering around. He met Ms. Kitty today. I walked into the room and saw him braced with feet set as if to be ready to run. Since then he has kept a healthy distance and ignored the cat who has been snoozing on a chair. Duke likes to play with his ball and releases it nicely at or near your feet. If I don't throw the ball right away he sits and if I still don't throw it he lies down and next scoots backward while lying down. Well, that's all on this cute puppers until we know more about him.

DukeWhat was the rule? Keep your eye on the ball?DukeMy eyes don't really glow!!

The Duke has been a very good puppy. He has been allowed run of the house all day while his people are at work - that's 8 hours at a time with no accidents or damage. Duke behaves well in the house and likes to follow us around. Duke only occasionally sleeps in the crate at night now. He likes to sleep on the bed and although he is a bit playful at first, when told to "lay down" he will settle down for the night. When in the fenced yard and house, Duke now comes if called - although there are those occasions when a game of tug-o-war with his foster sister takes precedence. When you ask Duke for his ball he will go off looking for a ball and if he can't find a one, will come back with some other doggie toy. He has also enjoyed playing with the frisbee and does well catching it. Duke previously lived with a NB, 5, 7 & 9 year old with NO aggression problems. Everyone falls in love with Duke and his soft coat is irresistible - a regular hug magnet. Duke is waiting for that forever home with lots of love and attention (and a good throwing arm), and preferably with a fenced in yard.

This guy is precious! He is more than mere good looks - he has Personality with a capital "P", heart, spunk, you name it. And health. Duke has been to the vet, was brought up-to-date on shots and received a clean bill of health. Duke weighed in at 60 lbs. He will have to wait a month - until after a booster shot - before he can be neutered. Duke is lying by my chair resting - oh, well, he was . . . Duke LOVES to play with his ball or anything that can fly through the air and be caught or retrieved. Duke has been with us since Saturday (4 days) and had no accidents!!! He has plenty of energy, yet behaves well in the house - following us around, trying to get me to play indoor ball when Alan isn't looking, watching his people eat just in case he is needed for clean-up . . . He has run of the house while we are home and has shown NO destructive behavior to-date. (Although he was found with my missing PB sandwich the other day - so I assume his little paws were on the table - and did very well at dodge and evade, all while eating a PB sandwich). Duke isn't enthusiastic about going in his crate but, once in, crates very very well. He rests quietly in the crate and when I come home from work he is still resting quietly and doesn't bark at all. Duke gets along well with his foster sisters and is interested in the cat but keeps his distance. Duke rides well in the car and likes to go for a ride. He does pull when on a leash but does better with a gentle leader and unlike most dogs when they are first introduced to a gentle leader, does not spend the entire walk trying to get the gentle leader off his nose. Duke does well with sit and with the promise of a treat or tossed ball will "lay down." We started to work on "stay" tonight and after only a few corrections caught on. When it comes to training, he is very motivated by his favorite toy (the ball) or a treat. Unfortunately Duke does not come well when called. He would do best with a fenced in yard as he likes to roam the neighborhood.
