Duke 05-313

Profile

9/30/05: Duke is here in Minnesota, in a temporary foster home, and what a great dog he is. Duke is almost 2 years old, he has beautiful teeth and is all up-to-date with everything. The only thing he needs is to be chipped and he is good to go. He came all the way from Omaha, so he has had a long car ride today.

Duke is very playful, but settles well. He loves balls and other dogs, both male and female. The home he goes to can't have any cats. He is too interested in them. He has been hunting... show more

Updates

Sadly, we lost our beloved Duke on August 14th to nasal cancer. He declined rapidly and his death was a shock to us. Duke was very special to our family and he left 3 broken hearted boys (Max-15, Jake-12 & Andy-10). Our younger Golden, Dutch, still grieves for him and my husband and I still look for him next to our bed each morning.

Duke came to us on December 4, 2005. We we his second home in a short time after multiple foster homes. Duke was a runner and, despite our best efforts, he never completely reformed. He slowed down and his adventures became fewer, but even after surgery for a torn ACL, he still managed to sneak off from time to time. It took a neighborhood, security, the mailman, the UPS man and golf course maintenance, but Duke was always recovered swiftly and safely. Everybody knew him and loved him. He only made it our of our gated neighborhood once. That was scary.

He also didn't give up his habit of torturing cats. Twice, he treed cats in our yard requiring Fire Department rescues. Our vet made us call ahead so they could secure the kitties after Duke got close enough to get a mouth full of fur. He could smell one a mile a way!

We all have our faults. Duke more than made up for his with licks & love. I'm sure that every family tells you that their dog was the best one ever. Duke really was. Thank you for rescuing him and choosing us to be his forever home. Our lives are richer for having him.

I made this photo book for my boys.
