Duke arrived at my house last night. Meeting him was like being in a washing machine. He has the wash cycle (tongue) along with the agitate and spin. He is a bundle of energy. Duke is a 9 month old neutered male weighing about 65 pounds.. He looks very Lab like, but is the color of a golden. He has had a least 3 owners in his short life. One owner used to keep him in a crate wearing a muzzle for hours. He is not at all aggressive, so I guess the muzzle was to keep him from barking. Despite this bad experience, he goes willingly into his crate and spent the day there while I was at work. His next owner had to surrender him due to her health situation. Duke then went to a home where the resident dogs were not thrilled to have such a dynamic, energetic dog added to the mix. He has now come to RAGOM where we will find his forever home.
When he arrived last night his energy level was VERY high. He acted like someone who just drank 12 cups of coffee. The last thing he wanted to do was to sleep. Unfortunately I did not think to put a Gentle Leader on him until this AM. (I guess sleep deprivation is good for something...) The Gentle Leader made a big difference. I have him trailing a lead around the house so I can guide him away from temptations.
He is totally house trained, gets along well with my two resident dogs and is happiest when he is with me. He does not like to be left outside for very long. Even if my dogs are out with him, he cries and scratches at the door to be let back in.
I invited some other dogs to come play tonight and that worked well for Duke. He is now lying next to me totally tired out. A tired dog is a good dog. This is a BIG change from last night when he was in constant motion.
I have a vet appointment for him on Wednesday, but according to the records that came with him his is up to date on all of his shots. He looks very healthy and has a sunny disposition.
