3/25/07: Dusty Pacino is safe and sound. Terrified, but safe and sound.  I am giving him his space and his new foster sister and brother are following suit.  He has found his safe place... in my bedroom by the monkey slippers.

He comes to me with wounds around the neck (and face), so I have slipped a Gentle Leader harness around him for now.  I'm hoping he will take to food soon so I can administer his antibiotics (I remember it took my Lacey - also a puppy mill rescue - around 3 days before she would eat or go to the bathroom).

Below is the first pic of this sweetheart....poor guy!!

Pacino continues to blend well into the pack (and my bedding) and it seems like he surprises me every day with a new break-through.  They’re subtle improvements to the unfamiliar eye…  a little more affectionate, a little more playful, a little more obedient… all baby steps in the right direction.  Now to find a lucky forever home for him.  He is ready for a family who is willing to invest time in some obedience training and LOVE, because he is sure to give it back ten-fold.  Tonight we spent about an hour brushing and grooming.  He's really tolerant - actually, I think he likes being groomed.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PACINO !!!Pacino celebrated his third birthday in grand style with fiveof his favorite goldens in attendance, including his old mate, Bismarck 07-194 from North Dakota.  Bizzy brought Frosty Paws frozen treats to share with all.  A first for Pacino… and oh so yummy.  Treats and butt sniffing were in abundance – and what could be better than a pool party on a hot summer evening.  It was the best birthday EVER!!!As he was blowing out his candles he confided that his birthday wish is to find a loving forever home with a dog lover who is willing to spend quality time with him, has a fenced in yard… and hopefully a stable doggy sibling to romp with.Pacino is climbing the ladder of golden high life and has laid his claim to middle of the bed status.  He is also showing a discerning palate for high-end dog food.  We may have to start calling him Prince Pacino.  He is such a lover, it is easy to spoil him.He continues to enjoy his walks and collects unsolicited comments on his beauty wherever we go.   I hope it goes to his head!  He deserves it.

Hi Medtronic PRL and Kristina.  Sorry I haven’t updated for a while.  Our pal Pacino is so busy getting his happy on!  We are seeing more and more glimpses of the happy dog inside this beautiful boy.  He still does not like being approached, but he is the first one to slap a kiss on you in the morning.  I recently purchased a special grooming tool to get through his thick gorgeous goldilocks.  I’m hoping to shed some of the undercoat and reduce the number of hot spots, which appears to be the only remaining health issue for our buddy.         He continues to get along well with the Mac and Lacey (my resident goldens) and as his bravado increases, I’ve noticed the playful side of him coming out more and more.  He has totally picked up on the “TREAT” command and willingly barges into the pack to accept a treat from my hand.  He is well on his way to becoming a bonafide happy golden.

Mr. Pacino is making wonderful progress.  He is coming to me willingly, fitting in with the pack, competing for pets and doling out the kisses.  He's figured out the outside steps, but is still a bit shy of the doorway.  He's picking up toys with an apparent preference for the stuffed variety.  These are steps it took my female puppy mill rescue months to achieve.  He would like it known that he will be celebrating his 3rd birthday on June 25, 2007.                  He did a good job at the vet on Wednesday night and has just a few health issues to overcome.... so long as I can think of new ways to slip those antibiotics in.  He's very bright, and has caught on to my tricks already.  He will be going back to the vet Monday to be neutered and they will be removing a broken tooth also.  This lovable guy is curled up at my feet right now - making it kind of hard to sign off.  More later...
