Dusty (Rusty 10-262)

Profile

Please welcome Rusty to our Ragom family.  He is eleven months old, UTD, neutered and full of puppy fun.  He gets along well with other dogs, he lives with cats and just needs a reminder to not chase them and he listens very well.  He loves to play fetch with his tennis balls and will bring them back as many times as you throw them.  He is crate trained, house broken and  has no aggressions or anxieties that we have seen.  He previously lived with a four year old.  Does not jump up on people. He does get on the furniture.  He is still learning not to pull on the leash.  He gets daily walks, knows how to sit and is learning the stay command.  Not sure if he needs a fence as he is still learning recall.

As with  all puppies he needs daily walks, someone to teach him his boundaries and limitations.  Obedience would be wonderful for this young man.  If you think you are up to puppy energy and a great cuddler please give your placement adviser a call.

Updates

It has been a while since I did an update.  Rusty or Rustic as we call him seems to improve each day with his hip.  He is not showing a favoring of his left hip at this time so we are hopeful that the surgery will not have to be repeated on his left side.  Rustic has a Vet. appointment on Wednesday to have his hips x-rayed to find out how he is healing.   Keep your paws crossed that everything looks good.  He is enjoying his rehab this week.   His rehab involves him sitting and then standing up 15 times twice a day.  He gets a tiny piece of cheese after a good sit.  (he loves that)  He is getting tired of no exercise and his midsection is starting to show that.  It is hard to keep him trim when he can't go for a walk.  I do let him play (with supervision) for a few minutes on the deck with his fur brothers.  He loves his car rides and I take him to visit friends and he can't get enough attention.  Rustic is a super boy.  He loves everyone, old and young.  He gets along great with every dog he has met.  He is fine with cats.  I will update again next week when I have spoken to the Dr.   Meanwhile enjoy these new pictures of Rustic and his fur brothers.  (Look how his hair is growing back!)

This is a great update on a wonderful Golden.  Rusty is doing so beautifully on his third week of rehab.  His physical therapy is sitting and standing up and sitting for 15 times in a row two times a day.  He is pulling like a freight train on his leash and can't understand why I can't seem to go any faster.   I take him with me in the car every chance I get.  He loves the car, even though he is in a crate (so he does not jump on the seats) he doesn't seem to care just wants to be with you.  This is  a great boy.  He loves other dogs, does not bother the cats.  Sleeps in his crate, respects baby gates.  Can be left totally alone for up to four hours.  (that is as long as he has been left)  He loves kids, has never jumped on people.  No resource guarding and most likely would not need a fence.  But....he is only a year old and he needs exercise a couple of walks a day.  He loves to play fetch and will return the ball every time.   Keep in mind that he won't be a running partner but he will be a walking partner for as many miles as you want to go.  He loves to swim and return tennis balls from the water.  We still have another couple of weeks before he gets his X-ray to see how his surgery is healing but after that he will be looking for his forever home.  The end of November he should be back to all his normal activities.  If you would like to know more about this terrific boy let you placement advisor know.  Just look how squarely he stands putting weight on all four feet.

Rusty had his stitches taken out today and boy was he glad.  He laid on the floor and just was happy to have someone loving on him.  When it came time for his stitches under his leg to be taken out he even lifted his leg to make it easier for the Doc.   After he got what he thought were enough appropriate belly rubs he headed for the door.  The doctor thought everything looked great and his range of motion was doing great.  She thought he would be better then new.  Sending a couple of shots of him before he went to the doctor today.

Rusty's hitch-in-his-get-along turns out to be hip dysphasia.  He just turned a year old on September 25 and it was hard news to hear but because of his hesitance to jump up or down and his funny gate it is clear he is having some discomfort.

His right hip is the worse with some arthritis setting in at such a young age.  But the good news is ....he is a RAGOM dog and that means because of the generosity of Golden lovers and Golden want-a-be lovers, Rusty will get his surgery to correct his right hip.  At his six week check-up they will evaluate to see if he needs his left hip done.  A great big thank you to our RAGOM veterinarians who generously give of their time and resources and deep pocket discounts so that Rusty and others can benefit from their skills.  If you are thinking of donating at this time, please keep Rusty in mind, he could use a sponsor or two.

Also please keep him in your prayers for his surgery next Monday.  Please enjoy his pictures of Rusty in autumn.

Rusty is doing well but we noticed a hitch-in-his-get-along.  He is young it could just be that in his former home he did not have much exercise and now with all his running he has some sore muscles but just to be on the safe side Rusty will be going to the Vet. to have his hips checked out.

Keep your paws crossed for this young boy.
