Ean 12-228

Profile

As you can plainly see, Ean has to be one of the most handsome guys around! And happy, happy, happy all the time. :o)

Ean was surrendered to RAGOM because his owner was enlisting in the Air Force. This young man did an excellent job in training Ean. He knows sit, lay, shake (both paws!), and high five. He's very smart, to say the least.

Ean is a 2 yr. old Golden/Aussie mix. He has a beautiful fur coat that feels like silk. He's neutered and will be brought up-to-date with all of his medical necessities at his vet appointment. For right now we do know that Ean has a problem called mega esophagus. He needs a high quality dog food that is softened with water.

He came into our home and had absolutely no problems meeting the four resident dogs, even the snooty little Lhasa/Daschund mix! When meeting humans, he will bark and sometimes growl. As soon as he sees the RDs getting pets and attention, he realizes he's missing out on good things so he mellows out in less than 2 minutes. Then he won't let you stop with the pets and loves! He's truly a velcro pup, this guy.

When taking him on a walk through our neighborhood this evening he did pull slightly, but he isn't used to being on a leash either. So, all in all, he did very well. He came with his own crate and goes into it with no fussing. You just have to say "time for bed".

In his previous home he lived on a lake in a quiet country setting. Also, he had free roam. He is currently fenced in his foster home - just safer that way - and he respects baby gates indoors.

Check back later in the week to find out what new things we've learned about Ean. Plus we'll give you an update regarding his vet visit.

Ean and I will be at the Petco in Burnsville, MN Saturday, February 2nd from 11am-2pm. Please stop by and say hi!! Ean loves to meet his fans!!!

I finally loaded some photos!! There’s Ean and Otto playing in the snow (Ean absolutely loves the snow), Ean giving me the “look” while wearing his Halloween costume (he can play a mean game of “pretend you are a statue” while wearing that thing), and, my favorite, Ean and Otto sharing a sunbeam (foster brother love at its finest).

Ean has been with us about 2 weeks now.  He is just the sweetest dog!!!  We are enjoying having him around but we are excited for his forever family to find him.  He did really well at the Chuck & Don’s event.  I was really proud of my timid guy.  He was very brave and let many people pet him.

Ean is very much a velcro dog.  Everywhere I go, he goes.  He is my little shadow.   He sleeps on the floor right by our bed.  He has free roam of the house while we are gone.  He startles very easily and barks at everything.  He’s really great with kids.  He loves toys!!

We are having good luck with the hand feeding.  He eats a high quality, grain free food that I soften with hot water.  He also gets an antacid pill and a fish oil pill with each meal.  The actual feeding takes about 5 to 6 minutes.  I try to keep him still (sitting or standing) for an additional 5+ minutes. Our mornings have gotten more hectic with school starting but Ean is super patient and knows he will get his breakfast after my son leaves for school.  He gets very gurgly sounding after drinking water.  He belches ALL THE TIME—my kids love it!

We have been taking daily walks and he does really well with the Gentle Leader—although he will try to get it off when given the chance.

Boy did Ean have a busy day on Saturday.  In the morning a very nice family drove up from St. Paul to meet the two puppies, Athena and Juno, that we're fostering.

They asked to meet Ean too and, after some warming up time, he had a blast getting all kinds of attention.  They enjoyed watching him racing around the yard with "the girls" too.  They are too funny to watch!

Then in the afternoon we took him to Duluth to the Ragom meet and greet at Petco.  After being nervous for the first 5-10 minutes, he seemed to relax and actually enjoy himself.  He was even asking strangers for pets! Of course all of the people who came over to meet the Ragom dogs were very nice and showed them alot of love. Everybody raved about what a beautiful dog he is. :)  We were very proud of him.  In fact, he did such a good job that he was rewarded with a new dinosaur sqeak toy!

I don't think I've ever mentioned that he has absolutely no storm anxieties, unlike one of our resident dogs.  And he LOVES to be brushed.  He is a shedder, like  a Golden, but we're used to it here with two other Goldens.  He has so many Golden traits...leaning into his humans, giving the Golden paw when he wants attention, a true "velcro" boy  and just loving life in general!

Ean has been trained to walk with a gentle lead and does a great job. He knows the routine by now and leads the pack when we're out! We're still working on his barking/soft growling when we meet people &/or their dogs. He never curls a lip or shows teeth. It's more like an "I'm unsure and need to be told it's okay".

He seems to do so much better when meeting new people that come to the house if he can sit and listen to them from behind the gate. After a few minutes we open the gate and he runs directly to the new voice for pets and loves with no barking. He was left with free roam yesterday and today for a couple of hours (with the pack inside of the house) and nothing was out of place so all went well! We couldn't ask for an easier pup to foster. He's so good we hardly notice that's there's an extra, he's so well behaved. With prep, hand feeding and clean up it does add a 1/2 hour each for the two feedings. The longest time period is waiting for the food to soften after putting it in hot water. He waits patiently in the kitchen while the other dogs are fed in another room, doesn't sit by the gate and bark or whine.

Let placement know if you're looking for the best two year old around. Not only is he smart, he's tons of fun too. :) You won't be disappointed!
