Elsa just left with her new family and pranced out the door without even looking back. Elsa is a special pup who is bound to bring her new family lots of fun! Good luck sweet girl!!
Elsa had a good time at the meet and greet! It was busy, with lots of dogs and people to meet!! About 45 minutes before we left she found a nice secluded spot under the table and decided she needed a nap!
She LOVED the fresh snow we got a few days ago and we spent much of the day trampling through it. Elsa loves to bury her head in the snow, pounce through deep snow, and hike in it. She is definitely a lover of winter!! We spend much of our free time outside playing.
I have introduced Elsa to the command "down", but last night decided to get all 3 resident dogs (RDs) and her in a "down". I told the RDs to stay and after a practice run, Elsa did a "down-stay" long enough for me to snap a quick picture! She is treat motivated and smart, she also has a little independent streak I see coming out. I would absolutely love for her to find a family who is interested in doing multiple puppy/obedience classes. I think she would really enjoy it (and it will also help her tame her independent "I'll do what I want" moments). With some good obedience under her belt, she may even be a good therapy dog when she is a bit older.....after all...who doesn't like to pet a dog with a thick coat like this girl has!!
Elsa would love to have a younger fur sibling to play with and learn from but would also be fine as an only dog. She can be a tad bashful at first meetings with unknown dogs, but once she meets them she does great. She loves to play but also is good at finding ways to entertain herself.
I would prefer she doesn't go to a home with young children due to the resource guarding of high value items she's exhibited a few times. She does NOT guard any dog toys or her food dish, only high value items which I keep put away. (to her, high value has been bully sticks and other chewies, as well as some kid toys at someone else's home)
If you have the time and energy a puppy requires, and think you would be a good match for Elsa, let your placement advisor know.
Hi everybody! It's me Elsa...I was just on a little trip. See, I was adopted but after 1 1/2 weeks the family realized they weren't the right fit for a puppy and tearfully returned me. I came right back into foster mom's house like nothing happened and happily greeted my foster brothers. I showed them I had worked on getting bigger just like them! Foster Mom (FM) says I get to hang with her and the resident dogs until another family sees me and decides I'm the perfect dog for them!! In the meantime, we are working on having new experiences, since FM says all puppies needs a lot of socialization and time! I also came back to FM's house with a desire to guard high value stuff (bully sticks, pigs ears). Apparently, that's not nice behavior but FM knows I'm a smart girl and can learn I don't need to worry about my things being taken away.
Foster mom here...puppies are A LOT of work. They can't be crated for more than a few hours at a time, need to go outside at least once an hour when they are young, they chew things, and are in need of being taught all about the world around them. Thankfully, they are also wonderfully cute and fun! Elsa is a smart girl and will enjoy puppy and obedience classes. Remember, puppies grow into adults and in Elsa's case....a beautiful and big adult. Elsa currently weighs around 24 lbs and will be a large girl when she is done growing. We ran into a purebred Newfoundland on one of our walks and the owner said "Is that a Newfie puppy? She looks just like my dog when she was a puppy!!". From all the confirmation we've received from various people, I think it's safe to be quite certain Elsa's dad was a Newfoundland. :)
In true Newfoundland fashion, she LOVES the winter. Even when we had wind chills in the -30's Elsa would go outside and roll around in the snow and be content to play while FM stood around freezing. Along with her ability to tolerate cold well, she will likely not tolerate heat well and will need a home with air conditioning to keep her from overheating in the summer months. Also, because she loves the outside so much, I think she would strongly prefer a fenced in yard. There have been many times where after being inside for 5 minutes, she asks to go outside again to play. Taking a pup outside 10+ times a day is much easier when the yard is fenced and when they have freedom to play.
She does have one little dirty secret, ever since she was a young pup, she has been a poop eater. (Mother dogs eat the puppies feces when the litter is young and since puppies imitate their mothers, Elsa felt she should as well) It's not an uncommon habit in dogs, and is easily managed by picking up right away every time the dog goes! But, it does mean you need to be OK with not leaving any waste in the yard.
If you feel you are a good match for Elsa, let your placement coordinator know.
Elsa and her littermates are now 7 weeks old and doing fantastic! Everyone went to the vet today to get their 2nd DHPP and Elsa weighed in at 10 lbs. Everyone at the vet clinic loves them and just thinks they are adorable!! All the puppies are doing great and are happy, healthy, little explorers. They love wrestling with each other, eating, and playing out in the snow.
Elsa is looking for her forever home and would love to give you puppy kisses!
Let your placement coordinator know if you would like to meet her!
Today is my 6 week birthday! So much has happened in those 6 weeks.....I can't tell you all of it, but I will fill you in on the last week.
Me and my siblings and eating machines! We have graduated from canned food to big kid puppy kibble!! We like it if its the only thing available but if the milk machine (AKA mommy Macy) is around we whine and whine and whine. Then after we eat (and eat some more) we play, play play! You should see us run now! Ok, so FM (foster mom) says that its a bit of a hop, but its running to us! I even discovered the treadmill today and climbed up on that for a look around the big world.
I weighed in at just over 7 lbs today and my coat is just as thick and fluffy as ever. FM thinks our daddy might have been a Newfoundland or maybe a Newfoundland mix because us girls look just like pictures of baby Newfies. Of course that's just a guess and Mommy won't spill the beans.
Anyways, I'm looking for a forever family of my own. I promise to keep you on your toes and give you lots of kisses in between! If you want to meet me, then let your placement coordinator know!
