Hi Everyone, I was finally “sprung” from boarding! Wow! What a relief. Me and my foster brother, Wyatt and foster sister, Sassy are trying to figure each other out yet, but I do like the chow (Pet Chef) and the fenced in yard here! I have had a bit of a ruff road getting here. My family loved me very much but couldn’t keep me because of something called “allergies”? While I was in my outside kennel, it got hit by lightning! You can see why I’m scared storms! My foster mom said she would be scared of storms too! Now that I am a RAGOM dog and will live indoors maybe it will be better. I didn’t have any problems while I was at All Seasons Boarding when we had the storms. By the way Maureen and staff; Thanks so much for the many baths! I look and smell GRRRREAT!

Foster mom says, I need to go to a forever home with a fence because I escaped from my previous home, and like to run. Of course that got me into MUCH trouble! Now that I am an indoor dog, I love to have ALL of the attention, which bugs Sassy and Wyatt. I am the kinda girl that like to snuggle and be with my people all the time. My favorite places are leaning against you, while of course you pet me, or on the couch next to you or keeping your feet warm:)I love to prance around the yard, it’s so fun, and I look great! Pictures really don’t do me justice! I got to run for now, I will write more later! Love Emmie.

Emmie seems to be doing better everyday. First thing Saturday morning, she and our resident cat, Fatboy met, nose to nose on the floor. I am not sure that Emmie has met a cat and her interest may be just curiosity. We have continued the introductions, very controlled, so far so good. Fatboy really is unconcerned as you can see in the picture.

We went to obedience class on Saturday. It is evident that she is a smart girl and wants to please. She responded to all the training exercises wonderfully. Before class she met a very hyper Lab mix. She was standoffish at first but by mid class they were nose to nose and the dog was kissing her face. This week Emmie even stood at the end of the leash towards the middle of the class looking around. Much more relaxed this time.

Emmie spent a few hours on Saturday at the RAGOM picnic. Emmie was there for about 3 hours, tons of Goldens everywhere! When she arrived, she walked through all of the people and dogs with no notice. She is very good on a leash and tends to ignore other animals, except squirrels. I took her down to the lower pavilion for the foster showcase, where there were probably 15 dogs playing the doggie games, and another 30 or 40 in the pavilion, with probably 50 people milling around.  Emmie didn't pay any attention to any of the dogs, didn't appear to be interested at all. She happily sat for pets from adults and children, and I allowed a couple of older kids to give her treats, telling the kids to tell her "be nice" before they gave her the treat.  She took the treats nicely from everyone.

Emmie had a chance to lounge with several other RAGOM dogs, Allie, Spirit, Chance and Suzie. Emmie sat nicely by me, and at one point Suzie kind of jumped over her, landing on her.  Emmie gave her a little growl but nothing else, was very good considering Suzie had jumped on top of her.  I told her to settle down and she did.  She met several people who petted her, she was good for all of them. There were a couple of little dogs down there, she ignored them. She got very interested in a squirrel who ran by her, but that was it. When we got ready to leave, Ranger, 07-237, ran up to her and wanted to play, she kind of acted like she wanted to play with him, but as she was on a short leash and didn’t really have an opportunity.

As you can see later in the day the dogs were all bagged out. Wyatt, one of our resident dogs and Emmie are sleeping blissfully away. Emmie is doing really well, improving every day.

Once a RAGOM dog, always a RAGOM dog - Emmie has been surrendered back to RAGOM. Emmie is a special girl who needs a special kind of family. She needs a family who will set clear boundaries and help her learn good doggie manners. She is a sweetie and a love bug who loves to push the limits. She is at her best when she understands what is expected of her. She responds best to firm, quiet, positive reinforcement. She doesn’t do so well with harshness or raised voices. We will be starting obedience training with Emmie next week, which would be in her best interest to complete. If you are willing to devote a little bit of time, lots of positive reinforcement, (she LOVES treats!) she will be your gem.

Since she has been back with us, (we fostered her the first time) she has been a very good houseguest. She has deferred to our resident dogs. She is VERY attentive to our 18 lbs. resident Maine Coon Cat, Fatboy, and our two birds. In Emmie’s defense, Fatboy, who never comes around when we have foster dogs, has been tormenting her by wandering around and meowing at her. Still, I would not recommend a household with small animals or birds, as she is FAR too interested in both.

In her previous homes she liked to escape and take herself visiting. That got her into much trouble in her first home. It would be ideal if she had a good fence. Emmie also has storm anxiety from an unfortunate experience. Emmie used to live in an outside kennel, which was struck by lightening. As a result she has some storm anxiety. We had a storm a couple nights ago, but with a little reassurance and going about “business as usual” Emmie was able to settle down for the rest of the evening.

Emmie initially came into RAGOM weighing in at 81 lbs., she has since gotten her girlish figure back and looks GREAT! She has begun to relax and initiate play with her foster brother Wyatt and foster sister Sassy. She has also started chasing her tail which is pretty funny.

Emmie will make someone a faithful loving companion if you’re willing to commit some time and lots of love.
