Fancy 05-120

Profile

Fancy is a 4-year-old purebred Golden Retriever. She was surrendered by a breeder that will no longer be in the breeding business. Fancy is a medium golden with very light colored feathering. She is a very pretty girl.

She has been an outside dog all of her life, so she is learning what it is like to live in a house. She is doing great. I have had no accidents in the house so far. Fancy is often timid about going in and out through the doorways but is getting better each day. We have discovered that she does counter surf, as she has gotten bread off the counter when we have turned away. She is used to a crate because she spends her time in the crate we have in the kitchen, even though we don't put her in there. I think she is just more comfortable laying in there.

Once Fancy learns what it is like to be a dog she will make a great family pet. She plays with Gabby very well and gets along with our cats. I know she would be great with kids, but at this point she would do better with older children as she is a little timid around loud noises and sudden movements. I think that will get better when she gets used to being in the house around lots of activity.

We will be going to the vet this week to get her vaccinations and a general wellness exam. She will also need to be spayed. More to come when we get to know her better.

Fancy is doing great. She is now spayed and up to date on all of her vaccinations. Her heartworm test was negative so that is great news, too. She did have whipworms so she has been treated for that also.

Fancy is getting more and more used to living inside. She did have a couple of accidents in the house when she came home from her surgery. She wasn't feeling good for the first couple of days so that might have had something to do with that. In the two weeks since she has been here she had been very good, though, and she has been left while I am at work for a little over 8 hours with no problems.

Fancy and Gabby have been playing quite a bit together. They actually lay on the dog bed and each one has an end of a chew toy. They go back and forth with that and sometimes they are both chewing it while holding on to it at the same time. It is pretty funny to watch.

After getting to know Fancy a little better I still think she would be best in a home without small children. She is a very gentle dog but needs time to learn what life is all about outside of a kennel. She is timid and shy with new situations and people so she requires patience and understanding to help give her the confidence she needs. We did take her for a walk over the weekend and she did really well aside from trying to pry the Gentle Leader off every so often. We walked by a very busy road where people were also riding bikes and walking. I thought she did great.
