My little puppy has come back to me but in a much larger size:) Welcome back Dino (now known as Finn ). Finn has spent the last year with a wonderful family that just wasn't the right fit for him. He is a one year old who was just too much for their 4 year old son. When the kids would be running around the house being kids, Finn would join in and get a little too excited and mouthy. They miss him very much but know that he would be much better suited to a family with older children.

I have had Finn for a couple weeks now and would LOVE to keep him but my hubby reminded me that we are a one dog home. Finn has really fit in with us and I think he would fit in anywhere without small kids. I have two daughters age 9 and 12 and he does very well with them. My 12 yo has been training dogs for a couple years now through 4H and is working with Finn. He is a really good boy who is for the most part a great listener. He needs work with the basic obedience commands (he knows sit but is slow) His recall is actually better than my resident dog who is a Canine Good Citizen:)

He doesn't like to be too far from his humans so I know he wouldn't be a flight risk. We have a nickname for him of "blanket" because he has to lay in our laps:) I always wanted a pup that would cuddle up!! He is a bit of a chicken but that might be because he is so young. He's more of a mama's boy than a hunter too I think. He does need to learn that your space is not necessarily his space. He always has his paws all over us and while that is really cute, he needs to know that 4 on the floor is better:) He is already pretty tall for a one year old so he could be big.

I could go on for days about this guy. I really love him a lot. So to recap what I think would be his perfect home:

  • no kids under 7 just because he is a big playful puppy not because he's mean.
  • he NEEDS obedience training but I think ALL dogs do to make good pets.
  • no fence needed but he loves to go out and run (really fast) in the yard. Doesn't want to go far from his family but may explore at the neighbors.
  • he loves playing with our dog and had 2 other dogs at his last home so another dog would be a plus but if you can give him enough to do shouldn't need one.
  • he is young and needs a lot of exercise and is good with other dogs. Dog parks would be good and many walks. (I forgot to mention he hadn't been on a leash before we got him and he is REALLY good and my youngest can walk him without a problem with a normal collar)
  • he is very good in cars, left home alone, no accidents at all!!!, sleeps in daughters room on his dog bed. whines when he wants to go outside. Barks when he see's someone outside but isn't excessive.

Did I mention that he is SUPER cute?

Finn is one of the easiest fosters I have ever had. It's perfect... you get a big puppy who doesn't have those sharp puppy teeth and is fully potty trained. If you think you would like to meet Finn please email your adoption coordinator.

It was a busy Thanksgiving weekend and I wanted to let everyone know how Finn handled it with class. The day before Thanksgiving we had our family over and Finn was a great host. On Thanksgiving we left Finn and Harmony home alone for most of the day to fend for themselves while we went to visit family. They had free roam and there were no "accidents" at all and I wasn't surprised. There was one piece of homework that got shredded but that could have been either one of them and it was probably on the floor to start with:)

Then the big test....we went to the family farm for the weekend and Finn did perfect. He met and got along with their dominant dog, he met cows and horses and while he wasn't too sure what they were, he did fine. A hard lesson was learned about trying to run into the cows pasture though when he went right into the electric fence!! Ouch!! He just came running over for sympathy for a second and then continued to explore. He had a great time all weekend. He was very respectful in the house too. We had the whole family there which includes a 4,6,7,8,9 and 13 year old and several adults. He played very well with all the kids and never got rough at all. He loved the attention. He is wonderful in the car too. He was in the back of the suv with Harmony and they just rode like pro's, never heard a peep from them.

Hey, Finn here, I thought it was time for an update. My foster mom is dragging her heals to find me a home hoping that her husband will give in and decide they can be a two dog home. I don't think that is going to happen so I need to help her make arrangements for me to find my forever home.

I went to a "doggie social" on Saturday and got attacked my two tiny little dogs and my foster mom said I was a bit of a chicken. Whatever, they were scary!!! I was a good boy and didn't chase them back I just ran as fast as I could to FM to hide:) I think maybe I am a little nervous and will need more of these doggie social sessions so I can keep my scruff down. I'm pretty brave around most of them and FM said I would be just fine at dog parks.

I am just an easy dog to be with. If you like to cuddle (cause I WILL be in your lap all the time if possible) and you will take me to obedience classes and social hours I will be the perfect pet. I have NEVER been alone without a human or another dog in my life. I NEED attention I LOVE attention:) I'm not bad when I'm alone but it's just not my favorite. I would love a family with older kids cause I don't know how to give anyone their personal space and the little ones tend to get pushed around easier than the big ones. I think I would be fine as an only dog but would need that much more attention and time from my humans. I have always had a human home during the day with me too. I'm not sure what I would find to do if I was all by myself for that long.

Some new things I have taught my FM: I like to keep the house safe by barking if someone can be seen out the window (not excessive though), I love to cover people up with my body to keep them warm, I have fun running fast at dog socials as long as those tiny dogs aren't nipping on my legs!, I love love humans and I'm not afraid to show it. I like to play with Harmony the resident dog and play hard but when she's had enough we just lay down and rest. She's getting old and I don't want to bother her too much. I also like to check out the humans food as closely as I can to make sure it's not poisoned and would gladly taste it for them too if they would let me. FM says it's not good for me but I will almost eat anything. Banana's are delicious!!!
