Gabby 07-095

03/20/07: Introducing Miss Gabby! Gabby arrived at our house tonight and met her new foster parents and the resident dog Cinder.
She is a black golden retriever mix. It's hard to tell what her other breed(s) is/are, but she sure is cute! Gabby is all black and has just some random toes that are white - it looks like she dipped her paws in some white paint.

Gabby is almost 5 months old. She lived with 4 kids, 3 under the age of 10 and was good with them.  She did do the typical puppy jumping, but we are going to work with her on this. She was given up because she was a little more than her family could handle.

Gabby had some mange that was treated and we are going to take her in and make sure that she's all cleared up. Her coat had been trimmed down, but it's coming back slowly and surely.

Gabby is tuckered out from the excitement she's had today and sleeping behind me in her crate. She is almost completely housetrained, knows how to "sit" and is very energetic and cute. She will benefit from obedience classes.

Hope you guys like the pictures, and if you're wondering what that random gray thing is, it's Foster Dad with his sweatshirt hood pulled up to keep Gabby Girl from kissing him constantly.

More to come on this little sweetheart - if you are interested in meeting Abby, be sure to email placementatragom [dot] org!

UPDATE FROM HER FOREVER FAMILY:

It's been a while, but I thought you'd like to hear how wonderfully Gabby is doing. We have changed her name to Starbuck and she is a Star! We are still enrolled in Agility classes and she is just so smart and so happy to be doing it. I think we'll be ready to compete by this summer. I'll have to let you know about all the ribbons we win.

She's eager to join me in anything I do and she has so much energy that we are always on the go. Just a couple of weeks ago Starbuck and I went on our first hunting expedition. We're both just learning but we had a blast and Starbuck is going again tomorrow with her Dad.

Starbuck really fits our lifestyle and I'm looking forward to having a great companion for years to come. Thank you Karen and RAGOM, we are happy, happy, happy.

Leanne and Mike

p.s. I have attached photos of Starbuck and I running agility obstacles, swimming, hunting and fishing. Boy, do we have fun!

Gabby is doing wonderfully. I keep her on a 6 foot leash around the house and she has only had one accident this week. She absolutely loves the kids. Yesterday one of them went out the front door and she whined and sat at the door waiting for him to return. This morning she and one of my cats were actually playing (he's a brave cat). Gabby was so happy! The other cat continues to give Gabby looks of death, to which Gabby sticks her little rear end up in a play bow and bounces around like Tigger trying to get him to play. This morning I gave Gabby's ears a good cleaning and she was such an angel. It was as if she knew that this would help her so she let me do it. I went into it expecting to have more of a greased pig wrestling contest, and instead she stood bravely and let me squirt in the cleaner, wipe all the yucky stuff out with cotton, then put her medicine in. If you are in the market for a puppy, email placementatragom [dot] org and check this sweet little girl out, she's just a gem.
