Peaches (nickname given to her by foster mom is: Ms. Peach Pie) has arrived in her foster home, and I cannot say enough good things about her!!  She is one happy girl!!  She reminds me of a little polar bear!!  She is about the sweetest golden retriever I have met.  She LOVES to give kisses and has the fastest tongue west of the Mississippi!!

Peaches spent the first 7 years raising numerous litters of pups in a breeding facility.  She has since been "retired" as a momma, and is now looking to spend the rest of her days lounging around and enjoying lots of kisses and quality time with her forever humans.

Peaches came to us covered in ticks, not up-to-date on her shots, not spayed, and REALLY needing a bath and a good brushing.  She is now fully vetted and has been spayed, microchipped, bathed, brushed (numerous times) and pampered.  She is on a weight loss program (not by her own choosing), as she came to us extremely overweight. The vet questioned us as to whether she was already spayed as she has never seen an intact female as overweight as Peaches.  Well, Peaches proved the vet wrong, because she indeed was an intact female when she first arrived with us and weighed in at a whopping 108 pounds.  I joke that I added a new coffee table to my house when Peaches arrived because she has very short legs and a wide top :)  Peaches is now down about 10 pounds (Go Foster Mom and Peaches!), and Ms. Peach Pie is not liking it one bit!!  She LOVES to go on walks so that is helping with the weight loss, but she does still LOVE her food.  Her future forever family needs to continue to exercise her to help get another 20-25 pounds off of her.  As the weight is coming off of her, she is able to move around a lot more and some "puppy playfulness" is coming out of her.  It is VERY cute to watch her personality emerge.

Peaches does have a long scar that runs from the top of her back and down to her belly.  The breeder said it was from some shots she received and the skin "split".  The scar is there, but has healed well and our vet says it is nothing to worry about.

Peaches is such a delightful golden.  She is always happy and she gets along extremely well with our three resident dogs and absolutely adores children.  She has no resource guarding issues and has recently discovered the joys of playing with stuffed toys, playing with other dogs and chewing on rawhides.  All of these things have been new experiences for her.

There are really only two "negatives" about Peaches.   When Peaches came to us, the breeder told us that she has a thyroid problem.  Our vet confirmed that so she does take a daily dose of thyroid medication once a day (very cheap pills).  She takes these pills very willingly on top of her food in the mornings.  We also are still working on housetraining.

In thinking about what Peaches needs in a forever family, I would say:

*a fenced in yard
*another well socialized, confident dog in the household
*a warm bed
*lots of loving, cuddles and kisses.

If you are looking for a wonderful dog, Peaches is your gal!!

Thank you!!!

Updates

Hi everyone it's me Peaches. Since no one else has written something for my happy endings page I thought I would just do it myself with some help from Molly (06-127) my fur sister. It's been a year now in my new house and I have adjusted to most things. I have learned that when I am in the kitchen I must lay down on the rug or else I get yelled at for tripping everyone, but sometimes it gets too boring waiting on the rug for food so I get up and scout around for food anyway. A few days ago my family was making sugar cookies and I was right there ready to pounce when one of cookies fell off the table, it was a good cookie. I have also taught my family not to leave any food on the counter, because I like to counter-surf when no one else is around. I have gotten a hold of some ripening bananas and pears. The pears weren't too good though and I just had one bite. There is also still a case about where a loaf of bread disappeared too and I am keeping my mouth shut about this one. Molly and I have also had some adventures with going though the trash cans while looking for a midnight snack. Food is number one for me around here, and every time I see someone I sit down and wag my tail real hard just hoping they have something for me in their hand. Once all my human sister had in her hand was some fur from Molly, but I could have sworn she had some good food hidden in her hand. If you look at my pictures you will notice that I have lost a lot of weight since coming to Ragom, but if you ask me I would prefer to eat a lot and just sit around. For a while I was under 60 lbs, but the vet said I was too small, so now I weigh about 62lbs, and my mom thinks I might have gained too much weight, but is working with the vet to find a perfect weight for me. I say just because Molly is 50lbs and all muscle doesn't mean I have to be.

I also get a lot of exercise here and at least one walk a day for about an hour. On the weekends some times I go for one and a half to two hours. This wears me out pretty good, especially when we are let off the leash and I try and keep up with Molly. I am just as fast as Molly, but Molly has a lot more energy and never wears out. (The only thing that wears Molly out a little bit is a three hour run through the Boundary Waters while our human sister skis.) Most of the time I walk nicely, some days though I just don't want to walk and drag behind while Molly pulls ahead. Right after a walk I expect to be fed and I don't understand the lectures about how it's only 1:30 or 3:30 and therefore it is not time for dinner. I keep hoping and following my mom all around the house and get very excited every time she goes into the kitchen. When it is dinner time I eat as fast as I can, and now have to eat out of a muffin tin, as if that will slow me down. I also am not allowed to eat with Molly, because when I finish I go over and push Molly away from her food bowl and finish Molly's food for her. I don't growl or anything and Molly doesn't seem to care so I don't see what the big deal is.

My other favorite thing to do around here is to go for car rides and when I go I sit very nicely in the back seat unlike some other dog I know who puts her head on the shoulder of the driver and whines because we are not going fast enough. However, I have gotten in trouble for stealing the driver's seat, but if the driver's door is the first one open I gotta hop in. Don't want to be left behind! I also jumped in my aunt's car when it was open too just hoping that we were going somewhere, and I have refused to get out of the car when the door was just accidentally opened.

I also really love my squeaky toys. Molly was at the pet store recently and got me a new squeaky toy that was on sale because it was wearing a Santa hat and she got herself one too. However after our human sister left us alone at home for a few minutes with them I took Molly's and then was the proud owner of two squeaky toys. Molly is a pushover and all I have to do is hold on to something that Molly has that I want and give her the look and she gives it to me. Sometimes Molly plays a little tug of war for a while or tries to play keep away, but I usually end up with the toy in the end. Molly is pretty nice to me, but sometimes she gets really excited about something and then paws me in the head and runs into me. I put up with it for a bit, but if I growl she knows I have had enough. Most of the time I don't know why she is excited, but since she is excited I get excited too. I am also okay living without Molly. I enjoy seeing Molly when when she comes back and don't like being left behind (but who wouldn't), but am just as happy being an only dog and keeping my mom company.

I love wild animals too and have caught myself a squirrel and an opossum. Didn't kill them just caught them. Just trying to keep up with Molly who has caught many squirrels and rabbits and even a porcupine. She got in trouble for the porcupine though because it was a baby and when she bit it, it left about 200 quills in her mouth that a vet had to take out. I say Molly and I are now even, because she has the porcupine and I have the opossum and Molly has had many more years to increase her squirrel count. Molly and I also cornered a chipmunk in a PVC pipe, but then we got in trouble for trying to dig the other end of the PVC pipe out of the ground.

Well that's it for me, thank you Ragom for finding me a new home. I think Molly wants to say something.

Hi, Molly here. Just wanted to let everyone know that Gabby is a good sister, even if she does steal my toys and my spot sometimes. Though I guess, if you were to be technical about it the spot I am talking about is the one Gabby's foster dad gave me, so maybe Gabby thinks it is hers. And yes, we did change Peaches name. Her full name is Gabimichigami, after a BWCA lake, and my family goes to the BWCA a lot. At first we wanted to name her after Lake Superior, but then her name would be gitchi gummi, and we didn't think that sounded right for a name. So thanks again to everyone at Ragom. We included some photos of us too. One is a photo of us sharing the spot from FD, and if you look close you can see Gabby's head is on her toy. Other one is a profile of Gabby and you can see how much weight she lost. And the others are just of us looking cute as always.

Hello Peaches fans.

I have wonderful news Peaches has been adopted!. she will now call Woodbury,MN home with the S family.  She will have a mom & dad and a college age big sister as her humans.  Peaches also has a former Ragom girl Molly fna 06-127 as her fur-butt sister.  She  has already impressed her family with her good walking & car riding skills.  And she is just so sweet.  Peach pie  will start obedience classes next month on the 8th.  Peaches new family have renamed her "Gabby" and they have been kind to send FD e-mail updates on hows she is doing.

Two of the photos are of Gabby & her new sis Molly in her forever home.

I want to again thank her sponsor & those who put icons on her page. Your help is needed for Ragom to be able to rescue dogs like Peaches. I also wanted to thank her first two foster moms who cared for her and welcomed her into their homes.

Thanks to my resident dogs Bailey,Charlie and Peaches mentor Zoey. They were great friends!!!

Enjoy the Golden life Gabby!

Hellloooooo Peaches fans!

Peaches here.  I had a grand time with the holidays here in foster care. We the other furbutts and me got involved in these  gatherings and you know Santa found me this year!  He never found me before so I was way happy. I got a new chew bone just like my foster brothers & sisters received. We don't remember whose is whose now, but It was really nice to be included. This was my first X-mas by my recollection & never had I gotten a  present with MY name on it under a tree.

Foster dad took me over to foster grand ma's on Christmas day too. & she has really good treats. I was very well behaved also. Foster GM noticed how mellow & well behaved I was.  My foster sister Zoey got to come also, the rest of the gang stayed & guarded the house what ever that is about.

X's & O's to my pals from down the block Allie & Maya for remembering me. I have it good here now, but I'm told it will be even better with a forever family like you gals have.

Foster dad wants his keyboard back gotta go. Love Peaches!!!

Hi Peaches fans It was so nice to have holiday memories with Peaches here as a part of our pack.  She did so well with it all. Peaches & I stopped at the Ragom vet tonight to see how she did...74 pounds yippee for Peaches. She has started to jump up on the bed in the morning when I get out of the shower that's where I find her these days. She still sleeps on her dog bed at night and that's good as we would run outta space If she wanted to give the bed a try for the night.

My special thanks to Karen Johnson, Peaches sponsor. Thank you for sponsoring    Peach-Pie. If not for generous people like you Ragom could not help dogs like Peaches.

If you would like to have Peaches share the next Holiday season in your home contact placement. You will need a dog pal for Peaches & a fenced yard and no really young kids.

You will not regret it trust me! on that. She is a wonderful, loving & sweet pooch. FD

Ps the photos of the gang getting presents and Peaches in her favorite spot on the love seat. Thanks again for reading about my pal Peaches.

Hello Peaches fans!

Want to meet me, Peach pie? I will be at the Ragom event at PetSmart in Minneapolis this Sunday from 11am till 1:30 with foster dad.

Not much new here just hanging out till my forever family finds me, did you get lost in all the snow?

FD was a big help to us fur-butts last weekend. He took the snow blower in our back yard and made a cul de sac just for us. Foster brother Charlie has started to make a path out into the snow along the fence to give us a bit more room to roam.

Oh and thank you Johnson's for my tree icon -- it makes my page look nice for the holidays and helps Ragom to help pups like me.

Hello Peach-Pie fans.
First off some big news from our stop at the official scale yesterday. Drum roll please......... Peaches is 78 lbs. That's 30 lbs total since Peaches became a Ragom girl. Thanks to her first two foster moms for getting her started and keeping her on the path to the dog she is today vs the mobile coffee table she started as.

Peaches attended the Ragom event yesterday at the Chaska Petco along with foster dog Cole 10-327. Unfortunately no other foster dogs were able to attend. However with hard work by both dogs no one went home without a chance to pet a friendly tail wagging Golden.

Peaches continues to do well in foster care and is considered one of our pack by the resident dogs.  Resident dog Zoey is her mentor, kitchen pal during work days, primary walking buddy and occasional sparring partner. Zoey had great mentors in departed Golden's "Honey & Bailey 7" and she learned well from them.

If you think Peaches would be a good addition to your home and have a fenced yard, no really young kids, a large dog or two, a cat free home and enough love in your heart contact placement.  Photo is of Peaches & her mentor.

Hello Peaches fans!
Peaches continues to do well in her foster home.  Last week Zoey insisted Peaches play with her like four days in a row.  This week no playing for Peaches as Zoey confined her play to brother Charlie.  Don't know that Peaches will be a big player ever, but she does get frisky and trusts Zoey to play down to her level.

Made a stop at the vets office last week and Peaches is down to 80.5 lbs so we are thinking "Back to the Seventies" will be the new theme. We have not been told a target weight so we are looking to set 75 lbs as our goal for now. However foster dad is less inclined to walk as the weather goes downhill and that may factor in on our goal?

Peaches normal walking buddy is her mentor Zoey but Charlie has taken reps also. Sadly  Bailey who started as Peaches walking buddy back in July can no longer keep up with Peaches.  I have also taken Peaches solo and she just walks right even with me on the right side. No pulling unless a squirrel caused a sudden lunge forward. She is getting more focused on the walk with a lot less stops.

Peaches and I a few Sundays ago paid a visit to a family here in the neighborhood we met while walking their Golden. So she had a new yard to explore and a new dog pal to hang out with for while. Peaches enjoyed her visit. They had some yummy dog treats too.  Thanks for inviting us over. Peaches was her normal happy self. So if you are an approved applicant & have some yummy small dog treats she would love to come meet you and your dog or dogs.  Just contact placement!

Peaches was in attendance at last Saturdays "Goldzilla" event in Shoreview. She enjoyed herself.  She got to meet her former foster mom and catch up with her former foster brothers Finnegan and Bob.  Peaches also got to meet a former foster dog "Luke" 08-248 and his family.  Luke is one of my favorites and a sweet boy. We decided to have a day off her diet as there we so many people wanting to hand out dog treats. Her latest weigh in was 84.5 lbs on Sunday.  Peaches will be attending the Ragom event this Saturday at Chuck & Dons in Lakeville from 11:30 till 1 pm. I'm including a Peaches close up taken during the foster parade last weekend.

Friday, September 3, 2010

Peaches here...... Looking forward to the long weekend. Got my first bath here last weekend and us gals all got our nails trimmed too. I have been on several walks and foster dad has paired me up with foster sister Zoey as my walking buddy. I'm getting better being in formation now. I do pretty good. I really don't pull unless I see a squirrel and I have good eyesight so I see them all.  I'm thinking foster dad is not so happy with the frequent stops, but I do tend to get better as the walk progresses.

Foster brother Charlie was on a mission to get me to play with him last night!  I don't play yet, stay tuned.... you never know..... a girl can change her mind anytime right? We had a storm at 4 am yesterday morning and I did sit up and pant, but foster dad said everything was fine. So I just laid back down and went to sleep like a good girl. I have decided I should "greet" FD when we wake up in the morning now too. It's the short version of the greeting I give him when he comes home. Sending a picture of me at the starting gate. FD calls it a sliding glass door. That's me in the center!

Love Peaches :-)

Just a short little Peaches update. Peaches is now fostered in Richfield and I am now her permanent foster.  She is doing very well here and we really enjoy having her as part of our pack, while she waits for her forever family to find her.  Her former foster mom will now help another Golden in need of a foster home so it was a win-win. Thanks to her former foster mom for granting my request for Peaches to stay on with us.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Peaches is enjoying her stay in Richfield and is just one of the gang here. Peaches attended the Ragom event yesterday at the Plymouth Petsmart and charmed several people with her calm friendly demeanor.  We just have not met that one person or family looking to add a second or third or forth dog to their pack yet.  It will be nice to meet them, as she so deserves a forever home. In the mean time we are enjoying her being  part of out pack.

On our morning walk today we were accosted in a nice way by a very reved up "Sydney," our neighbors golden from up the block. In an instant she was all tangled up in leashes right between Peaches & my Zoey. Peaches was not sure what to make outta Sydney ,but after receiving a few kisses to the muzzle from Syd decided she was OK.

Prior to attending last Saturdays event we stopped by the vet to use the official scale to see how her diet is coming along. Down to 88.5 lbs that's twenty pounds total. I have noticed she is more active and she now goes full speed to the west fence line with foster siblings Charlie & Zoey. Before she would throttle back 1/2 way to the fence line. She is still an excellent companion to my senior dog Bailey and just likes to hang out with her.

If you would like to meet Peaches in person and are looking to add to your pack contact placement. Thanks for reading about my pal Peaches.

Hello from Peaches, I'm at my west side of the river foster home. At least till that nasty dog my foster mom is sitting go's back to where she came from. I like it here this is the same foster home I stayed at in July and foster dad has taken me to a couple of events too. I must have met 50 dogs since I became a Ragom girl and I liked them all. Cant tell you why I did not like that one dog last Saturday except she was a , well you know. Gotta go foster dad wants his keyboard back.

Hello Peaches fans from her temp FD. Peaches is back in Richfield,MN for a while, and we could not be more happy. I have a blind senior golden named Bailey fna 08-124 she cant read dog signals or defend herself if a fight broke out and I had NO pause about bringing Peaches here.  I have watched as Bailey bumps into Peaches ,steps on her etc. Never even a look from Peaches. She gets along fine with her foster sister Zoey and she is still sweet on my Charlie.  She is just one of the pack here.

Just as I'm typing this my boy Charlie just stole a bone from Peaches. Bad dog Charlie!  She is a peach what can I say and she could be giving you! Her adoring smile when you come home from work. But until then I look forward to it. If you would like to meet Peaches contact Placement. Peaches will be at Petsmart in Eden Prairie this Saturday from noon till 2 pm come get a kiss from this sweet girl.

Peaches had a little adventure this week. She moved to another foster home for 8 days. So we get a little insight into how she will adapt to her forever home.  She met the three resident dogs Bailey,Charlie and Zoey without any issues. Bailey is 12 years old & blind and some dogs are put off by this at first. Not Miss Peaches, Bailey was her BFF at the start. New routine to learn and come Monday work days. We tested Peaches with a new set up. She was baby-gated in the kitchen with one close up dog pal. All the resident dogs took turns. She was found to be baby gate respecting. She had midday potty break till Thursday. Then we tried a full workday 10 hours at my place. She was fine with that and did it again Friday. Not one single accident at all during her time here. We did limit the amount of water available during the day. Rides well in the car in the back seat and we took several trips this week. One trip was to the vet to pick up her pills. While there we hopped up on the scale to see how her diet is coming along. Good news its working she is down to 93 LBS. She is very fast over a short distance on critter patrol in the back yard. I think she has a crush on my Charlie now. Temp foster dad and crew will miss you Peaches, you fit in so well. So if you are looking to add a very sweet golden to your life, that just fits right in, contact placement.

Peaches has obviously made herself at home in her foster home. She has found a bed in the computer room she likes, she has found her favorite dog bed and she likes to sit on a table in the porch and watch the world go by her house.

I know a little more about Peaches. She now weighs 100 pounds. She is wonderful at the vet and allows them to work on her with no effort. Her blood tests show her thyroid is high, so we've cut back a bit on her pills....another test in a month.

She's a better weather predictor than any of the TV weather people. She woke us on Tuesday evening about an hour before the storm even got near to St. Paul. Finally I heard the thunder and figured out what was wrong, it was still a long way off when I finally heard it. The vet, who called with the thyroid results says to monitor it and she can prescribe a drug to take the edge off for Peaches...but that will mean that I will have to monitor the weather better than I do as the drug needs to be given before the storm approaches....we'll see. I had dogs here before that were scared of storms....we'll see how it goes.

Attached pictures were taken by Mari M. at last weekend's Ragom event. Peaches is the big blond....she obviously does not mind being in the middle of a bunch of dogs.
