Ginger (Gracie 09-256)

Profile

Please welcome the newest member to the RAGOM family, Gracie (AKA Ginger).  Ginger is a 1 year old (DOB 9/1/07), spayed, golden/lab mix.  Ginger came to us after spending her entire life tied up outside- she actually moved from one family who her kept her outside to another.   Now that she is an indoor dog, she has a lot to learn about what's appropriate inside behavior.  Luckily, with some things, she learns quickly (using a gentle leader) while others (stealing pillows from the couch to shake about and counter surfing) will take more time.

Ginger had her 1st vet visit today and we came home with some antibiotics for her infected front paws.  She has been licking them since she arrived 2 days ago which the vet thought was due to anxiety because of the change in her environment.  Everything else looked good to the vet.

In the 2 days Ginger has been with our family we have learned that she must not have ever gone swimming.  We took her out to the lake yesterday and she was a little hesitant to venture out past the water hitting her belly.  With a little coaxing she went out deeper but got a little scared when she couldn't touch bottom.  It didn't take long and she was out in deep water again swimming like an old pro.  I have nicknamed Ginger "velcro" because she is always at my side, poking her head into whatever I'm doing.  She has done well adapting to sleeping in a crate at night but her crate door has to be closed when she is not in it or she will pull out the pad and shake it around. We also learned that Ginger has an initial fear of men, luckily my husband is quite charming and quickly won her over.  As soon as he gets home from work, she considers herself to be his new best friend and won't leave his side.

Ginger is ball crazy!  When she counter surfs it is not just for food.  Today we had a bag of balls on the table, I turned my back for an instant and Ginger had them all of them out and was sharing them with our resident dog, Maggie.

One last thing before we go- for an outside dog, Ginger has done AMAZINGLY well with her potty training...not a single accident in the house so we think she has a lot of potential in breaking her other bad habits.

Ginger says "Thanks for reading my profile...hope to meet you soon!"
