Gladdie (Adara 08-361)

Profile

Adara has arrived in Minnesota after a long van ride. She arrived smelly and full of ticks. Her DOB is 11/06.

Despite having a rough start as a mill mamma she is wonderful. This is probably her first time in a house. She is a petite blonde girl with wavy fur. She has had her first shower and did amazingly well. She has already started to learn to climb stairs. She is timid but is coming around nicely. She will come up to you and wag her tail. She has been investigating all the smells in the house and also seems to focus in on the TV.

I think she will be an awesome dog with some patience and time. She will be going to the vet and get all UTD and make sure she isn't pregnant, which I don't think she is but we will make sure. More to come as she comes out of her shell.

I miss Addie! She has gone to stay with her new family after they were trained in our 'foster to adopt' option. They just couldn't wait till after Addie is spayed to have her join their family. Addie is living with two older kids, one insanely funny and adorable fur sister and the coolest cat I have ever seen and of course her new Mom and Dad. The H family has a big back yard for her to run with resident dog Izzy. According to Kris (mom), Addie has been asking the cat questions (What ARE you??) and is very curious about her. But the cat knows all about dogs and is showing Addie how to behave! Addie will be spayed in about 10 days and then the adoption will be final.

Addie is doing great! She is prancing around with toys, playing with all the dogs she meets and really learning that loud noises and sudden movements won't hurt her. She walks so nicely on a leash and just a flat collar. I think she really models after my Scout when we walk. Scout wears a Gentle Leader and so walks nicely beside me (unless she sees a rabbit or squirrel! Can you blame her?). So Addie walks right beside me too.

Scout and Addie went to the lake this week to meet our friend and her RAGOM girl Athena 08 132. Addie was no Olympic medalist in swimming! Even watching Canine Olympic swimmer Athena wasn't enough to entice her. She would get her toes wet to get the tennis ball but that was it. I took her in with me a couple of times and her toes did actually leave the ground to swim! Oh, well....we will go again and see how she does. She certainly enjoyed being AT the lake, just not so much IN the lake.

Adara has finished her heat so we will check to see when she can be spayed. But she is ready now to meet families!

Now I have this toy thing down pat! This tennis ball has a squirrel tale attached. Boy, is that fun! Now next time a squirrel comes by, I will catch him!

Hello, my FM calls me Addie and I'm starting to kinda get it that she wants my attention when she says it. I really like foster mom and all of the people she has had over to meet me. Whenever a human comes, I run over and then stand really still while they pet me. I LOVE to be petted and I am not pushy about it like foster brother Skye. He leans on people and pushes their hand with his nose. Skye is just starting to think that he might want to play with me. I have been trying to get him to play by bowing and kissing him. Now that I have a new friend who loves to play with me, Skye thinks it might be OK too. That makes me happy because my new friend was only here visiting.

We are lucky at this house because we have a gate that is open to the yard next door where Adam and Amanda live with Skye's best friend Sammy. Adam and Amanda love me just like FM does. They let us all out to play when FM is at work. It's a great set up. They are helping me learn how fun it is to be a dog! Like bones are good, tennis balls are fun and sticks are even better!

I'm still really scared of some things like whenever someone is carrying something in their hand. I think it might hurt me. I've started to figure out that lots of times what FM is carrying is a yummy treat. So now I use my nose and if it smells good, I will take it from her hand.

I still get nervous sometimes when everyone is going through a door. It's not so scary to go out a door but coming back into the house is scary. I can sometimes follow Scout and Skye in but if they get too far ahead, then I freeze. And foster mom has to prop the door open and move away before I will go in.

Check out the picture of me and my new 3 month old friend Walter. I hope he comes back soon.

Adara is HW negative!! And that is a big hurray since 3 of the other dogs who came up from MO with her have tested positive. Such a simple thing to prevent and expensive and dangerous thing to treat.

Adara is slowly coming out of her shell. We are seeing her tail wag and she is play bowing to the resident dogs. She seems to have taken a real liking to Skye's best friend Sammy. And today for the first time she chased and picked up a tennis ball! She has the doorway thing down now too. Funny thing--she doesn't really know her name but comes quickly to me when I whistle. She will need obedience training and we are working on some simple commands. She is not food motivated so that makes it a little harder. She watches my dogs to see if certain things are OK but so far doesn't copy them when they sit for a treat.

She hasn't had any accidents in the house yet but I can't really say she is trained to that yet. She doesn't let me know when she needs to go out. She just holds it until the opportunity comes along. She has kept her crate clean but has only been in it for as long as 6 hours. She is also starting to chew on the wrong things--like my chair. How is she supposed to know that's not OK. So I give her something more appropriate.

She absolutely loves being snuggled! And gives the most precious little kisses in return. Isn't she a beauty? Look at those gold eyes!

Adara went to the vet today and she is in heat. She is not pregnant-yay! She has ear infections and we are waiting on some lab work but she seems very healthy. Maybe a little underweight. Foster Mom would love to share a few pounds with her. She is very shy but is following me around everywhere--so much that I almost trip over her. All of the household noises scare her.

She met the two resident Golden's and Sammy the neighbor dog very gently. Sammy and my boy Skye really like her--she smells good to them. 'Course they don't know what to do with that smell being the neutered boys that they are! So we are safe there.

Adara came full of ticks and we are still pulling some off. She got a dose of Frontline so hopefully that will be last of the nasty little things! So far she isn't interested in eating or playing and we are all giving her time to relax before we expect too much of her. She has difficulty going through the door--but only coming in from outside. She'll gladly follow me outside. Coming in is another story and so far she isn't even following my dogs. But if I prop the door open and move out of sight, she comes bursting through and screeches to a stop right inside. OK-we'll figure that out a little later.

She is a beautiful honey color with tons of curls. And couldn't be sweeter! She will need to complete her heat before she can be spayed so will be in foster care until after that. But that doesn't mean she can't entertain interested families! If you have another dog that can help build her confidence and show her the way to the Golden life, let your placement coordinator know.
