11/4/06: When RAGOM's Hotline got the call about Goldie, she was just hours away from being euthanized. Apparently, Goldie had walked out of an open gate in her owner's fenced yard, wandered away and ended up in impound... not for the first time. Even though family members offered to pay her impound fee so she could return home, the owner said no, because she'd just wander away again. Fortunately, RAGOM volunteers stepped up immediately to save her and help her on her way to the Golden life she deserves.
First, thanks to Anne for rescuing Goldie (rather than running in a planned charity event); to Anne's daughters, Sarah and Mia, for sending along beautiful pictures of Goldie that they colored while en route; Lisa, who vetted, groomed and overnighted her; and to Barb, who drove her from IA-MN on Sunday, and then also took the run 'up nort' after work on Monday.
Pretty dramatic start, yes? Not for this girl... she seemed to have taken everything in stride as she jumped from Barb's car to mine and then slept (snored) all the way home. Maybe she knew from the gentle hands and kind voices around her that she was finally safe and would be loved and cared for the rest of her life.
Goldie and the resident dogs blended very nicely, except for just a little jealousy from the nine-year-old black lab (totally expected, the big spoiled baby, who now has had an attitude adjustment).
Goldie, the perfect house guest, is in good health, weighs in at about 55 lbs, and her only meds are 0.06 Thyrozine for hypothyroidism and fish oil capsules to prevent itchy skin.
It was pretty cold outside this week so we've kinda hibernated, which meant sleeping late, eating lots of good food, taking a few short walks, enjoying afternoon naps... and bonding.
More later as I get this pretty girl out and do some socializing. :)
