Profile

I’m back. I am a 5 year old, neutered, male GR. I am handsome, loving, gentle, easy going, playful, and well mannered. I was returned to RAGOM after I nipped a strange man taunting me though my fence. My foster parents will tell you that I am wonderful with people and dogs. At the time of my surrender I was living with kids age 7 and up and another dog. I loved the kids and was good buddies with the dog. Now I’m with my foster family in Eagan, Minnesota. They don’t have any kids, but they do have a resident dog, Kozar. I get along nicely with Kozar. Neither of us are Alpha dogs.

I ride great in a vehicle. I go on lots of walks with my foster family. I pulled a bit on our first walk, because everything was so new and interesting to me. However, I quickly settled into the routine, and now I rarely pull. I like to meet new people and dogs on our walks. I am very friendly and don’t bark at them. I do bark and become excited if a stranger comes into my home. I respond to a settle command and quickly warm up to anyone.

I like to snuggle with my foster parents and get belly rubs. I sleep well on the rug beside their bed. I really like being part of a family. In the mornings I go on a run with foster mom and Kozar. I run next to Kozar or foster mom, and I don’t pull. If one of us needs to stop, we all wait and I respond well to the command “wait.” I don’t run too fast or too slow or cross from side to side. I would be a dream companion for any runner.

I go to work with my foster family. At work I mostly hang out near foster parents’ desk and sleep. My foster family also accompanied me to my vet visit. We had a really long wait, and I was very patient. I weighed in at 84 lbs, which is just right for my height. I had been on Prednisone for a hot spot on my skin, and it healed nicely. I did have small, red spots on my skin. The Vet said it could be a couple of things and recommended Revolution instead of Heartgard for a month. It appears to have worked and my spots are gone. I was also very itchy. The Vet recommended Benadryl and it worked. No more scratching. I had no other concerns. The Vet said that everything looked good and that I was a good boy.

I met foster parents’ 6 year old and 2 year old niece. I got along great with them. I have to admit that I was very excited, when I first entered their yard. It took me a few minutes to settle down. Once in the house, I was a perfect guest.

If you are wondering, Kozar and I do hang out at home without foster mom and dad. We don’t get into trouble and have a good time together. I’m on a line, when I’m outside with my foster family. They don’t have a fenced in yard. I don’t mind it, but I would prefer a fenced in yard so I could run and play. I don’t dig. Instead, I just nap and watch the birds. The dog park is my favorite place in the world. I get to play, run super fast and meet some really swell dogs. When it’s time to go home, I’m the first one to the car.

I think my best qualities are that I easily fall in love with my family and adapt to their routine. I don’t bark much. I love attention, but I’m not overbearing. I don’t counter surf or beg for food. I am smart, listen well and respond to commands. I am house trained. I don’t get up during the night, and I can be trusted in the house without my foster parents. I hope to be adopted soon, and I am sure that I will make my new family very happy. I can’t wait!

Goldie continues to do very well.  He had his second bath and again did not like getting into the tub but the dry off and extensive brushing were right up his alley.  As you will see from the attached pictures, he loves to be brushed.

He has two bad habits we are working on and his is learning very quickly.

One is he likes to pull on his leash.  We now consistently take him in the opposite direction when he pulls and he is learning he gets to go where he wants only when he is not pulling.

The second bad habit is he likes to bark when he gets excited. Again when he starts I just take his collar and lead him away.  Once quiet he can go back. Again he learns he gets to be in the action only when he does not bark.  He is picking this up very quickly.

He is a very smart dog and really tries to be a good boy.  We had a lot of thunder in St Paul last night and no issues for Goldie.

This is a wonderful dog.

Goldie continues to do well and has settled in very well. He loves outside and especially loves being with other dogs. He got his first oatmeal bath this morning.  He really didn't want in the tub but one in he was very good.  I think he especially loved the dry off and the long brushing afterwards. He continues to have some issues with loose fecals but we are running more tests hand hope to have it worked out soon.  Never a problem in the house and it certainly does not seem to slow him down.  A recent test shows "low normal" for thyroid and he is now on 2 pills a day and probably will be rest of his life. We just drop them in his food and all gone. Very cheap as well. We bought his a squeaky hedgehog and I wonder if he ever had a squeaky toy his whole life.  He loved it and has played with it almost everyday.  The first night he even fell asleep with it in his mouth.  Such a simply item gives him so much pleasure.

Goldie has been surrendered back to RAGOM. Goldie had an emergency medical problem and the surrendering owners could not afford to take care of him so they tearfully surrendered him. I am happy to report that his blood test and x-rays show no sign of any medical issues however, we're going to monitor him for a few days to make sure he is 100%.
Goldie is 5 1/2 years old, approximately 85 pounds, up to date on his vaccinations and is in great spirits!  Here's what we know about his charming personality so far:
* Golde loves kids (any age)* Fully housebroken and has free roam* He loves other dogs and is very playful* Cat tested - approved!* Loves to snuggle* Will follow his furrever humans everywhere - he just wants to be near you!* He's a bit overweight but nothing a little extra exercise can't cure!* He will make a perfect addition to a loving furrever family
I'll continue to let you know how this sweet boy is doing as we get to know him better...although I can't imagine what could get better about him.
