Profile

Gracie came into RAGOM from a commercial breeding background. Other than a treatable ear infection, Grace is a healthy dog. She is adapting well to living in a home, soaking up attention from her humans. Any children in the home should be age 10+ because Grace can be startled. She must have another confident dog in the household to learn from. She also must have a physical fence. Grace is making great progress and needs a loving family to continue her journey to being a wonderful family companion.

Sweet Gracie has found the perfect home with Mark and Peggy and their son Jake. She also has a lab mix fur brother to play with and a walking path in her new neighborhood.

Her new family has adopted several rescue dogs in the past including two from RAGOM. They are experienced with breeding mamas and know that Gracie will continue to need patience as she learns what it’s like to be a family dog.

She has come so far in the past two months and we couldn’t be happier that she has found a family that will love her forever.

Oh my, has this little girl changed since the last update! She has become so friendly and happy all the time. We’ve been calling her Galloping Gracie as she runs through the house and in the yard with a big smile on her face!

She now has free roam in the house as she knows to do her business outside only. She still doesn’t give us a signal that she needs to go out. But now with the nicer weather, the whole gang goes out frequently and she is given much praise when she potties outside.  Gracie would rather have praise than a treat.

She still startles easily due to sounds and sudden movements but takes it all in stride. She loves to jump in the car and go on adventures but is always happiest to come home.

We brushed her coat thoroughly yesterday and obtained a huge amount of undercoat. She absolutely loves being touched so is very good when being brushed. She has the most beautiful coat I’ve ever seen.

She’s all about play and having fun now. She initiates play with each one of our resident dogs and they love playing with her. She always seems disappointed when they lie down to nap!

She is still a dream to walk on a leash. And willingly greets everyone she meets while walking.

Gracie has come a long way in the past 6 weeks.  She would be the perfect addition to any home as long as she has a canine companion.

Gracie has now been with us for a month and has made amazing progress! She is now initiating play with our resident dogs - even our big male who never plays with his fur- sisters. But Gracie has enticed him to play and he loves it!

She romps joyfully in the back yard with a big smile on her face. She lies next to the other dogs during nap time. The look of fear in her eyes is totally gone. She wags her tail almost constantly and it is up most of the time.

Now that the weather has improved, we are taking her on more walks through the neighborhood so she has been exposed to cars, trains, motorcycles, bikes, and kids playing outside. She goes up to kids on our walks willingly and repeatedly. She walks with a loose leash and prefers to walk behind people.

She has now been spayed and microchipped and given her last vaccine booster. She recovered nicely from her spay and never bothered her incision. Her ear infections have cleared up. She hasn’t yet learned to let us know when she has to go outside to potty. She is let outside often and hasn’t had any accidents in the house for a long time. She continues to sleep all night.

This beautiful girl was given the name Grace but we call her Gracie. She came from a commercial breeding facility where she had lived most of her 6 ½ years.

Gracie has made so much progress in the 2 ½ weeks that she has been with us. She is still learning what it’s like to live in a home and so is startled by new noises. But she is a very brave girl and is very curious.

She absolutely loves to be petted and touched anywhere - she sometimes relaxes so much that she closes her eyes as she is being touched. She wags her tail most of the time and loves to be near her people.

Gracie is healthy and will be spayed on 2/25 along with getting microchipped and receiving her last booster vaccination. She had some very bad ear infections that the vet thought she had probably had most of her life. She is being treated with special ear drops and now loves her have her ears scratched.  She has no problems with hearing.

She walks very nicely on a leash - does not pull at all. She sleeps all night and rides good in a car. She eats by herself as she waits until we put her food down and leave the room before she will start eating. She takes treats from our hands easily, however. She readily sits for a treat.

She has such a beautiful coat. It’s gold but tipped in red - very unique. Her fur is very thick but she sheds very little. When brushing her, not much fur is removed (which is surprising for a golden). She allows us to brush her teeth.

She’s doing well with housebreaking but does not let us know yet when she needs to go outside. She is let outside on a regular basis.

She loves to stick her head in the snow! She gets along great with our 4 dogs (male and female) and is starting to play with them - tug of war and run and chase.  It’s so fun to watch her romp in the snow in our backyard - the look on her face is pure glee.

She has not been around cats or children. We haven’t been able to do much socialization with her due to the extreme cold and the pandemic. The vet clinic staff said that she did very well there and they all loved her.

Gracie is such a loving girl who is making great strides in learning how to be a member of a home and family. She will be ready to be adopted after she recovers from her spay surgery (beginning of March).
