Grant 10-256

Sometimes when it's time to write the first update for a new foster you try to think of new ways to describe the dog. I'm here to tell you when it comes to Grant all the tried and true things said about a Golden come to mind. He is between 7 and 8 years old, gray face and gray throughout his coat. Someone, I don't know who, shaved him and I know once his fur comes back he will be even more handsome. He rides like a trooper in the van, though I think he would have preferred to ride in the front seat with me. He does not guard his food, I can pick up his dish and pat him while he eats.

Today he met resident Jax and foster Colby 10-186 without incident, well Jax carried on for awhile, and Grant took it all in stride. The one thing he did try to do is 'hump', but was put in his place.

I walked him around the house and 2 of my cats were on their thrones in the living room. I walked him up to the cats and they didn't budge, which is a miracle since if they see Colby they automatically run. He had no interest in either one.

When we got to the family room he walked around then sniffed a leather chair and lifted his leg, I had him on lead and pulled and yelled no. He stopped, looked at me and continued on with his exploring. He has been in the kitchen since then with FD. Will see how it goes while watching t.v. tonight. FD took him out and he did all his business, but hasn't shown a 'sign' yet.

OK this wonderful boy was the hit at the vet office. He met everyone with a wagging tail and smile. He was checked out, he is under weight by a good 10 to 15 lbs, he's negative for heartworm or lymes, and his poop was clean. Yeah!! I'm so grateful to my vet, Dr Altena for working him yesterday. He was neutered, teeth cleaned and had 2 nasty upper molars pulled, one on each side. He was the perfect patient. Last night he whined while one of the nurses was still there doing paper work, so she got him out on leash, he laid down next to her and didn't move. Today he spent most of the day either up front with the girls, or in the back being fawned over. They ALL just love him and if you met him you'd know why. The only down side I've found with this guy is he pulls on lead and we won't be able to use a gentle leader with him till after his check up. But he is happy to go in the fenced yard and wander around and do his business. I have no idea if he's a runner or chases, so that is an unknown.

Grant was at a crowded animal control that literally had no room for him, no crate, no kennel. His owners were notified but chose not to retrieve him. This turned out to be a wonderful break for this sweet guy, he got to come to RAGOM. Someone loved him at some point as he knows come, sit, shake and down. This week we have had calls to please take dog after dog. There are so many reasons for these dogs to end up with us, but we are grateful to be able to take them. This is a hard time of the year with the long holiday weekend. The vet bills are piling up, and the dogs keep coming. If ever you have thought of becoming a foster or transporter, or sponsoring, now would be a good time:) Meanwhile, Grant is safe and sound, vetted and will be loved and fed. If you have been looking for an 'older' boy with a lot of giddyup, this would be your boy!! Hey, call your placement advisor and we'll talk.

Granite came to me a few weeks ago after his owners didn't want him back.  It was a blessing in disguise.  He was under weight and in need of a lot of love.  A few weeks later while I was out of town a young lady came to meet him  Some emails and couple phone calls followed.  When I returned we met at a park in St Michael.  Now mind you it's always difficult to figure out if the someone interested in your foster is the right person  It took me about 5 minutes to know this was the right match.  Granite is a velcro boy with so much love to give.  Rebecca wanted a velcro boy and had been searching for a couple months to no avail.  Aah karma.  And so it came to pass that on Thursday Granite went home with his new mom.  He will be an only fur butt, but will have playmates in the neighborhood, a park near by and most important of all, a mom who loves him and will dote on him all the days of his life. And so he jumped in the car, found a blanket, nestled in and was ready to go.

Granite, you are the definition of a Golden.  Best of all you will have the life you deserve.  We miss you big guy.  Rebecca, thanks for giving him the best home ever.

Master Grant/Granite is back home in St Cloud. He was lucky to go up Nort' while we went to Canada. His temp foster mom said he was the perfect guest. His appetite is up there with that of a teenage boy. Today he ate 2 cups in the a.m. and 3 cups at dinner time. He does not pause one minute once his food is in front of him. I take his dish out of the raised feeder and when he is hungry he steps down on the dish, flips it up on its side, then takes it in his mouth and brings it to me/FD to let us know he's hungry.

He has been playing and rough housing with Colby 10-186. They are a hoot and Granite makes these noises and sounds like a bear. He is so sweet. At night he comes to the side of the bed, sits down and gets his ears scritched and loved up, I tell him to lay down and he does, sleeps through the night and never a peep.

As his temp FM said, he walks like a dream on his leash. FD took Granite and Colby for a walk and said they were both great. He is such a good boy and slowly gaining weight. I hope to get him in after I get back from New England and get him weighed. I know he has to have put on at least 5 lbs. thanks to his temp FM. And Granite says, Thanks temp FM for having me!!

The pictures below sum this boy up, sweet like the ice cream he's licking and adorable as his picture holding the bear:) His home does not require another dog, cats are fine, he's not a jumper, I don't think he'd run if he got free, but not sure, he just needs someone who wants that special velcro boy and will give him all the love he can take, and he will repay 10 fold.

If you are looking for a young 8 year old, want lots of love, a walking partner and over all adorable boy, contact your placement advisor.

I will be out of town from the 11th returning the 18th, though not in time for the Goldzilla event.

Grant has been the perfect houseguest during his mini-vacation with Temporary Foster Mom and fur-kids Callie and Katie 09-257. Well, other than turning up his nose at his food for the first day or two until TFM started supplementing his kibble with hamburger and rice. Now, he eats with gusto which is a good thing because he is very thin and needs to put on some pounds! Good boy!

All three dogs walk perfectly on flat leashes so we've been taking long walks twice a day...the only time Grant pulls on the leash is to get to a bush or tree and take care of business. Good boy!

Grant is a gentle soul who must be close to his human. His perfect forever family will be patient and will be able to give him the attention and unconditional love that he apparently was missing until he became a member of the RAGOM family.

Grant, Katie and Callie... when do we eat?!
