Gretta is a wonderful pup. She is eager to please, and has a true affinity for snow and outside play. She settles rather nicely in the house and has found a favorite spot already on the floor by the couch. She is inquisitive and does need some reassurance in the house since she spent all of her time outside up to this point.
The vaccum cleaner was frightening for her and she hid. She doesn't seem to be concerned about the flooring at all. We have no steps so she really hasn't tried those yet. She sleeps well overnight in her crate after whining for just a few minutes in the evening. Of course, she has a Kong and plenty of chew toys to keep her company.
Gretta has a soft mouth and it shoudn't take long to train her to stop her puppy biting. She listens pretty well. She's still a pup and has tons of potential. It will take you, the owner, to make sure she gets obedience training and activities that will bring out the best in her.
She is super with our kids and the other dogs. She is learning that not every dog wishes to have a puppy playmate. In fact, some dogs won't tolerate her much at all. Our Shepherd/Collie mix herds her in the back yard and she just runs and runs with her. They like each other.
Gretta is learning to potty outside and the mistake she made in the house was my fault for not waiting long enough for her to potty outside. Keep in mind, you'll be continuing her potty lessons in the dead of winter, so be prepared for it. Now, she goes pee on command every couple hours. She poops twice a day about 30 minutes after she's eaten. Just knowing her schedule should help.
She went to the vet and weighs 26 pounds. Our vet thinks she'll be a large Golden since she isn't yet 4 months old. She has all of her baby teeth and will be microchipped and given whatever shots she needs the next visit. Her stool sample was negative and she's healthy and ready to find her new home. I would say Gretta's ideal home would have a fenced in yard, another dog to help her along to gain her confidence and someone with a flexible schedule so she isn't crated all day. She'll need a mid-day play/potty break every day. It is simply not fair for a young pup to go all day with no human interaction.
