Guinness 03-069

Profile

Guinness (fka Ace) was rescued from a puppy mill. Guinness is a big 6 year old. He isn't all that tall, but he is a Guinness Extra Stout, weighing in at 97 lbs. Guinness loves his crate, in fact, it is very difficult to get him to come out. However, once you get him out and into the yard he enjoys following us around and even trots across the yard when he sees us. Guinness loves to have his head and ears rubbed. Guinness' tail is frequently wagging. As you can see from the pictures he is big and cuddly - a real teddy bear. Guinness was given a clean bill of health from the vet. His dirty ears and teeth were cleaned. One or two teeth may be removed when Guinness goes in to be neutered. Guinness won't be neutered for one month due to his vaccine schedule. Because Guinness is still learning that life can be golden, so it may be a little while before he is ready for a home of his own.

We are very sad to say that Guinness crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. We feel that we were blessed to have him the six years that we did, and only wish there were more. He learned to do so much and taught us even more. He was the best dog and we already miss him terribly.

There will never be another Guinness.

Sincerely,
Pam and Gary

From Guinness' new family...

I thought I should update you on the first two days that we have spent with Guinness.

When we brought him home on Saturday night we walked him through the house to show him around and he immediately found a "safe spot " beside our bed. He stayed there for about three hours until we took him down stairs to see his new kennel, which he didn't think was as cool as I did. He wandered into my son Brandon's room and found his new place to sleep. He has spent most of his time next to the bed or behind his chair, only to be dragged out by me (which Gary says is quite a sight to see) for our walks around the yard. We have been taking him out about three times a day on his leash and going around the outside of our lot and then back to the house. He has learned that if he runs with me for part of the way he can get back to the house faster and go to Brandon's room! I know when he sees me coming with the leash he is thinking here we go again and why won't she give up! I simply pick him up under his front legs (maybe "simply" is not the correct word) and get him as far as the family room and he will walk with me to the door. He probably figures he can give me that much for the effort I put into it. He finally ate his supper Sunday night after a walk and drank all of his water, I guess I wore him out. Today he seemed a little afraid of the yard and kept looking towards the door, but tonight he went around the yard with us twice and seemed okay. He ate his supper and one of his treats I put in his dish, I wasn't sure he liked them because he wouldn't take one from me but he does, and he also ate his bone we tried to give him the day we picked him up and loved that! I think we are going to get along just fine with a little patience and a lot of love, he sure is adorable. I will keep you posted as to his progress and I will send pictures too.

Have a great week, Pam

Guinness steals the heart of everyone who meets him. It's hard to look at this big softie and not want to give him a hug. This week he had at least two firsts. When Diamond went up to Guinness and asked him to play, well, he started to play with Diamond. My jaw dropped because his main goal when we make him leave the crate is to get back in it. Then just this morning I opened the sliding door in front of where his crate sits and he trotted right out of his crate and out the door. My jaw dropped again. It is great to watch Guinness learn to enjoy life outside the crate. Guinness still doesn't like to walk in the house further than the few steps to his crate. As one may have assumed, Guinness has no problem staying in his crate for long periods of time. I'm convinced he could stay in there for more than 24 hours without complaint and without an accident if we didn't carry him out. Guinness is learning to enjoy attention. When we take him out into the yard he does enjoy trotting after us, finding a toy to shake around, or meeting his foster sisters.
