Gunner 08-566

Profile

Gunner is Ragom’s newest Golden boy. He made the trip to Ames on Sunday riding beautifully all the way home. He made sure to get pets from everyone in the van (we were all heading back from the Iowa vs. Minnesota game) and sat next to me the whole ride home with his head in my lap. He has been with us now for about 48 hours and is adjusting really nicely. He met the resident dog and cats, the foster kittens and Miss Lucy 08-540 without any problems. Lucy and he have become fast friends wrestling and playing for hours.

Gunner was found as a stray, but you can tell that someone had taken very good care of him. His coat is beautiful and he is a very healthy boy. He went to the vet today and got all his vaccinations, microchipped and his physical. He did wonderful through it all and charmed everyone at the office. They all thought that he was a very sweet dog. He weighed in at 92 lbs, but he is not overweight at all, just very tall. He really is just stunning as you’ll see from his pictures.

Gunner is pretty much housetrained we think. He has only had one accident so far and we are just making sure that we get him out every few hours. He potties right away and comes back in. We have been on a couple of walks since Sunday and he is getting better with the gentle leader. He isn’t perfect with it yet, but I am sure that will come with time. He needs an active forever family that will keep him exercised. He is just a young boy with a lot of energy. He does settle down really nicely when he is tired and likes to take naps with the rest of the pack. He likes to play with toys but he definitely needs ones that are indestructible. I caught him yesterday destroying Lucy’s kong  and we know how durable those supposed to be.

Gunner does know sit and we think that he knows down. He is pretty good about coming when he is called but I would really like Gunner to go to a home with a fenced in yard since he was found as a stray on a good Samaritan’s property. Gunner has gotten along really well with the cats and the dogs, he will sometimes guard his toys from the other animals when he is tired of playing but will not guard them from people.

Gunner loves being the center of attention like all Goldens and loves to get pets and loves. He is a great addition to our zoo and we love having him around. We know that he will make a wonderful addition to someone’s family. If you are interested in making Gunner a part of your family please contact placementatragom [dot] org.

We have great news for all of Gunner's fans. He was adopted by the W family tonight who came a long way and braved the weather to come meet this great guy. He loved their golden Zoey and they were very excited to make Gunner a part of their family. He has two human parents, a fur sister, and a huge fenced in backyard to play in. He will be one happy boy! Thank you W family for giving this golden boy his forever family!

Here are some pictures of Gunner at my parents house while we were there for Thanksgiving and then one with his new family!

Gunner is still doing really well at our house. We have seen a new calmer side of this gorgeous boy since Miss Lucy went to her forever home on Friday. He is more relaxed and spends a lot more time lounging around the house. We bought a nylabone for him and he really enjoys chewing it and carrying it around the house in his mouth.

Gunner is doing great with potty training. He has not had an accident in five days and has only had two accidents since we started fostering him. I originally thought that Gunner would absolutely need a fenced-in yard but I am going to have to take that back. From what we have seen of him over the past week, I really don't think he would be a runner. He just loves his people too much! He has been doing great on his walks and is really getting the hang of the gentle leader. We all went to my parents for the Thanksgiving weekend and he had a lot of fun. The more people around equals more pets for Gunner which he adores. When you start scratching his head and ears he just looks up at you with this look of pure contentment. It really is priceless and makes you just love him all the more!

Gunner is great with dogs, cats, and people. I think he would really benefit from an obedience class though he already knows sit, down, and will come for the most part. He is not kid tested yet but I'm sure he would love them too! I really can't say enough good things about this dog. He is wonderful to have around the house and would love to cuddle and keep you warm all winter long.
