Profile

Gunner and his littermate Sugar (21-076) were surrendered to RAGOM when their family was deployed. They were very bonded, but Sugar recently passed away in her sleep so Gunner will need another dog in his home. Gunner is deaf, so children must be age 10+ and not accidentally startle him. A physical fence is optional, but care must be taken that Gunner does not wander away; he will not hear you call him. Gunner needs a loving home where he can play a bit of catch and find a spot of sunshine for napping.

Sadly, Gunner lost his will last weekend after 12 years of a good life. He no longer had interest in his favorite green ball nor eating. He did like a sampling of steak and chicken but he couldn’t eat enough to sustain himself any longer. Thank you to the Red River Vet staff for helping him to go peacefully!

He lived in RAGOM foster home the last two months where he was loved, he enjoyed walks in the woods, smelling the goose tootsies on the beach and of course geriatric ball rolling. He eventually learned the ball would roll back to him and he waited. Gunner had no interest in exploring the lake or eating ice cream- silly boy!

He loved being hugged by little people when we had guests. He laid in the middle of the room without any care that everyone stepped around him.

He missed his sister, after she died two weeks before him. He had a lot of change his last two months.

He is now free of diapers and can run like strong boy he once was!

Goodbye our sweet boy!

Gunner is 12 years old—you would never guess by looking at him. Gunner is reportly a mixed breed but is very Golden looking in color and feathering. He joined RAGOM a month ago after his family was deployed for the Air Force. This is the second family he has lost due to serving our country. Thank you to these folks! Now, it is our time to serve Gunner!

Gunner is deaf and spends most of the day sleeping. He is getting better about relaxing outside and taking naps when we sit on the porch. At first, he would pace back and forth, now he settles in for a nap. We often wake him to go outside, potty, or for walks. Do you have that perfect spot that he can nap in your house?

Gunner still loves a short game of catch with his favorite green ball. He has enough energy for a walk around the block several times a day. He has gained a bit of weight and could add 5+ pounds to not feel his bones.

His teeth are pretty bad, worn down and the vet did not recommend any dental work. Soft food and water to soften the kibble helps him eat more of his meals. Gunner has had a few UTIs this last year and finished up his antibiotics. His bladder control is better now but he wears a belly band overnight and when we are gone to avoid accidents.

A couple of weeks ago, Gunner was around children and enjoyed playing ball with the kids. He slept on the kitchen floor without any worry for everyone walking around him.

A couple of days ago, Gunner escaped the barrier I had at the deck stairs. So, we know he can do stairs! He wandered around the backyard and when I got his attention, he came back to me. Maybe his hearing is selective versus deaf?

Gunner is a sweet senior who needs a home for napping and to hang out for the remainder of his life. He also needs another dog in his home, as he spent his entire life with his companion, Sugar 21-076, who passed away recently.

How are your floors? Worthy of a special senior for his lounging? If not, please consider sponsoring our senior dogs to help offset their expenses.
